Are the Packers Over-rated?
Ok so I will attempt to make this fairly short and sweet.
This weekend we are heading into a game against what many people consider a legitimate Superbowl contender. However, part of me thinks that this team may or may not be all it is cracked up to be. All phases of the game give me reason to believe that they may not be as great as many people think they are.
Defense:
The defense is in its second year of a transition from a 4-3 to a 3-4. Typically these kind of transitions take a few years until they have the right players in the right places.
Aaron Kampmen is gone, eventhough he didn't play all that amazing last year, and was injured.
Their linebackers are suspect, especially AJ Hawk (mwahahahahaha psu fan here).
Their secondary does boast one of the best Cornerbacks in Woodson, however he was almost written off as too old before his unbelievable season last year. The other cornback....Al Harris? Isn't he hurt? The safeties don't do alot for me, however the less you know about young safeties, often times the better it is for a team.
Offense:
Is it just me, or was Ryan Grant drafted in your fantasy leagues not because of any great physical abilities, but because he is one of the few "premier" running backs who doesn't share the load? This is my way of saying, he is effective, tough, reliable, but not a game breaker.
Aaron Rodgers, ya he is really really really good, I will give you that.
Jermichael Finley, he is an athletic ball catching tight end who had a good year last year. Athletic ball catching Tight End....is it just me or does that remind everyone of the same bullshit that was told to us by the Eagles about LJ Smith? Yes an athletic TE is a QB's best friend, and this guy is good, but maybe, just maybe, one of our linebackers will play well against him.
Donald Driver is a guy who just doesn't age, or hasn't appeared to. A wily veteran possession type receiver is always difficult to defend but he isn't the deep threat he once was, and plays with heart.
Greg Jennings, this boy can FLY! But so can Lee Evans. I have never been a fan of these kinds of all or nothing receivers (I love DJax, b/c he is a crossing pattern guy).
The O-Line is also being touted as being experienced and meshing well together. Does anyone remember last year? These guys were swiss cheese, now they are aged swiss cheese, is that better?
Conclusion
I am in no way saying that the Eagles will beat the Packers, but I think they have a fighting chance, if they can pick their spots and maybe have Brandon Graham whisper "saaaaack" in Aaron's ear once or twice they could come out of this weekend with the win. Week 1 always has teams that sputter out of the shoot, last year the Packers looked like door busters in preseason, well they didn't start out as hot as they looked, as is often the case.
All I am trying to say gentlemen, and the few ladies, is that we should have hope! The game is played on grass for 60 minutes, not on paper, so lets go down to the Linc, cheer loud, scare Aaron, and start this year off right.

Still don't understand
the bandwagon with the 49ers. They have a great Def but I still am not sold on the QB and their WR depth. We shall see. I do think Patrick Willis is the best MLB in the NFL.
Me neither. Smith still needs to perform he can perform at a high level running a pro style offense. He’s looked good out of the shotgun, which he played pretty much all the time in college but has struggled taking snaps under center.

When was the last time a team had a “really really good QB” and a servicable D, and wasn’t a team to be feared to some degree.
I don’t think they’re over-rated. Pre-season superbowl predictions are made from talent on paper…and I think the pack is fairly loaded. With that said, I think the eagles are too and have a good shot this weekend.

Their first rounder was Bulaga correct?
Is he playing RT or Left? Anyway
Graham Manhandled Bulaga last season right? badly, so what are they going to do? chip him with a back or with Finley? And What happens to Cole?
That is why I absolutely love our first rounder you just can’t put doubles on every Dlineman :D…
Bulaga doesn't start
Clifton starts at left Tausher at right as it’s been for 10 plus years. They both seem rejuvenated this season we have a lot of confidence in them. I have more confidence in our line than I have in 3or 4 seasons. Last season it seemed to be a huge weakness now we seem to have depth behind every starter. Bulaga is backing up Clifton and played some left guard in the preseason and was in competition to start there
You guys have a good pass rush(love Graham I follow Michigan) but I don’t think that will be much of a issue in this game. Last season Rogers was criticized for holding onto the ball to long and perhaps he did in the 1st half of the season. But right now that ball is coming out as his last foot is going down in his 3 -5 -7 step drop. He turned a percieved area of weakness into a huge strength. I don’t know if anyone is getting rid of the ball faster
you are a moron
their d is great .. they have great lbs .. way better than our scrubs .. ever heard of nick collins? o wait guess not cuz u dont care about their safteys .. yet hes a top tier guy .. im not a huge grant fan either .. but hes better than what we have .. which is a shitty rb who is afraid to hit a hole .. and yet u dont like all or nothing wrs? desean is the deffinition of all or nothing .. he either hits a big play or does nothing .. hence why hes not a 5 wr

If you Packer's fans haven't met JIBTA
He’s a fan of whoever the Eagles are playing. He claims to be a Philly fan, but was so far up Dallas’ ass that we now know he’s a Dallas fan mole. You won’t see JIBTA ever bragging about the Eagles, instead he tells everyone how much they suck. Read any post by him and you’ll see.

Trust me, I've seen a lot worse.
The guy I mentioned at the Cubs’ blog claimed to be a Cubs fan since 1977, but he would glorify other teams in baseball (such as the St. Louis Cardinals and Philadelphia Phillies) and complain nonstop about the Cubs.
Not only that, but he blasted us if we criticized the Cardinals even slightly. From what I’ve seen of JIBTA, well, the Cubs “fan” makes JIBTA seem nice by comparison. If you didn’t agree with his points, he would fire off every insult in the book. I once disagreed with him, and he made an overt reference in which he insinuated I was gay.

I didn't read the post becasue
Im in stop hypothesizing and watch mode. I have 24 hours to wait and see so……. But JIBTA’s correct that their LB’s are better than ours, Collins is GREAT and Jennings is a home run threat like Djax. He forgot Driver can run the intermediate routes and does well with the streaks where the QB purposely throws or under throws the back shoulder. Grant is better than McCoy to this point. He always hits the hole hard. McCoy could learn when to dance and when to lower the boom this year and we’re talking a different story.
I believe our WR/TE core is better then GB’s though.

Jones and Nelson ahve done......?
Jones had 440 yds
Nelson had 320 yds
They’re better than FredEx was but they’re no Maclin.
Jennings < Djax

Ehh I don’t know. The defense may be a bit overrated but not the offense. It will be as good as advertised and maybe even better. Jennings and Finley are both two of the top players at their respective positions, and despite Driver’s age he’s still probably one of the best #2 receivers in the game.
I wouldn’t say Woodson’s career was almost considered over before last season either. Since coming to the Packers from Oakland he has been GREAT. Agree that Hawk is overrated though for sure.
I think that they are over-rated...
…but I live in Wisconsin where everybody talks about the Packers and it seems that none of them have any confidence in the team this year.
Justyn725...
Is that true? I mean even when the Eagles are sure to have a lack-luster season, we still boast about how good they’re going to be (unless of course you’re JIBTA).

Even after this win...
Some of my friends were denying the Packers had any chance of making the Super Bowl…
What part of Wisconsin do you live in? I know the confidence isn’t lacking down in La Crosse. Maybe you’re just surrounded by a bunch of Favre fans or something :).

Wausau area of Wisconsin...
There is nothing but negativity about the Pack this year here…just over-hype from the outside world!
I don't think they're overrated.
They fixed the hole in their offensive line by drafting Bulaga, and their defensive secondary is better than it was at the end of last year.

I may be totally off on this,
as I didn’t I didn’t follow the Packers very closely last season, but weren’t their O Line problems with the interior? Bulaga’s a tackle, so if that’s true I’m not so sure he’s going to help with that.
That being said, their O Line solidified in the last few games of the season and was good, so I don’t think this is a concern for them.

After Clifton and Tauscher returned I believe we gave up 9 sacks in our last 8 games. In our first eight games (all without Tauscher and four without Clifton) we gave up 41 sacks. As long those two stay healthy, the offensive line should be just fine. And really even if they do go down, we’ve got some solid guys to replace them with.

The Packers weakness is in two areas. One is special teams, at every facet we are much better, so field position should be a big advatage for us. The second weekness is in the Packs nickle and dime units. Their depth at those postions and the starters are very weak. Check out the local Green Bay blogs they all agree that the nickle defense will have some problems in match-ups.
They have a first year rookie converted wide reciever as their dime corner. Andy Reed said to a reporter today, " no kidding…hmmm we will have to look at that". One thing I always liked about Reid is he knows his opponent’s weakness, and always looks to exploit it. I expect a lot of spread formations and I am thinking Avant and Riley have big games.
I have to be honest, I think the Packs a great team, but if we bring our A game, we can beat them…FLY EAGLES FLY!
I have to be honest, I think the Packs a great team, but if we bring our A game, we can beat them…
Definitely. I think this will end up being a fairly close game. It’ll probably come down to whose defense can slow down the opposing offense more, as I’d bet both teams will put up 28+.

I think they are over rated
Their defense got TORCHED like our defense did last year. Their running game was suspect as is the O-line.
THey are a great team, but until they prove they are the Patriots back when the Pats were great at every facet of the game, I can only call them a great team.. Not this juggernaught that’s going to come in and steam roll us
E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!!!
Lee Evans
isn’t an all or nothing receiver – he actually has great hands and runs good routes. He just looks like an all or nothing receiver because Buffalo’s quarterback situation has been so awful (J.P. Losman couldn’t through anything but bombs) and Buffalo hasn’t had a decent second receiver or a good offensive scheme for a while.
