Reid: Eagles Roster Spots are Open
Thursday's preseason game will provide a chance for non-starters, like Hank Baskett, to prove they deserve a spot on the Eagles' roster. By Jordan Raanan
From Peyton Manning to Jake Delhomme, ESPN's John Clayton ranks the NFL's starting QBs - ESPN
Despite calling him "perfect" for the Eagles offense and giving hi a 50/50 shot at being "elite" (much better than many guys higher ranked) John Clayton ranked Kevin Kolb 24th out of all starting QBs in the NFL.
Eagles Notebook: For Eagles, speculation of Stacy Andrews' demise seems premature | Philadelphia Daily News | 09/01/2010
Reality-check time on the Stacy Andrews speculation. The Eagles are obligated to pay Andrews $5 million this season, whether he is on their roster or not - a $4.1 million bonus that was due back in the spring plus a $900,000 salary guarantee, agent Rich Moran confirmed yesterday. This pretty much means he is going to be the right guard when the season opens, unless he gets hurt.

Giants
With Sorgi out, Rhett Bomar is your backup. They need to get someone before their last preseason game. Though I think Oakland would be his best fit.
Collinsworth was riding Bomar's jock early in the preseason
This may have changed since then, but the G’s were supposedly very happy with him
I guess Kolb has a 50% chance at being elite, a 45% chance of washing out by the 3rd game and Vick taking over, and a 5% chance of being average. At least, that’s how I work out the math…
"It's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog." - Bear Bryant
It’s just a poorly written article. Why list out your “hit or miss” guys at the bottom of the pack? These are the guys with potential to have solid seasons or even be “Elite” as Clayton puts it.
And guys like David Garrard and Alex Smith above the likes of Kolb and Matt Stafford….yeah ok. I’d much rather take the upside of a young guy over a very mediocre “veteran”
Very lazy piece by Clayton...
It’s no better than half the content you read in the fanpost section of SB Nation blogs.
I don’t really even care where he ranks Kolb, but the issue I have is that it’s all over the place. Clearly, Ben Roethlisberger is not the 4th most talented QB in the league – I don’t think anyone would disagree with that. Is he the 4th most accomplished QB because of the rings? I guess that argument could be made. But then wouldn’t Tom Brady be number 1 on the list? What’s the criteria here? Was any thought put into it at all?
That’s an extremely lazy piece that was probably whipped up in an hour or so, and when you have an average of 5.5 million site hits per day (as ESPN does) and you’re going to put that thoughtless garbage on the front page… Not good.
Aaron Rodgers
I haven’t looked at the article yet but where was Aaron Rodgers. I’d personally put him about Big Ben and Favre right now currently.
Big ben and favre? To me there’s so much space between them that about 10 qbs fit.
2010-11 Predictions:
Kevin Kolb will go to the probowl and complete >65% of passes.
Jeremy Maclyn will have more receptions than Miles Austin & Steve Smith
Graham will have the starting LDE spot tied up by week 5, win ROTY, and have >10 Sacks
11-5 finish.

I don’t really pay attention to Clayton (or any of the ESPN guys) but he seems like he’s been shitting on the Eagles all through the off season. Its like we personally offended him or something.
Let the beasting begin.
He has the Eagles ranked 22nd in his power rankings. Think about that – He has only 10 teams below the Eagles. Ten. He has the Eagles one spot ahead of Oakland. It’s laughable.
And his reasoning? They have a difficult schedule. Apparently a difficult schedule makes NFL players less talented.
In his semi-defense
no one really knows what the Eagles will do this year, for one reason: No one really knows how good Kolb will be. If he becomes and elite QB, the Eagles will likely win the NFC East and maybe have the best record in the NFC (not remotely joking here). If that happens, Clayton get to say that he called it. If Kolb really, really stinks, the Eagles will likely end up with a losing record, and Clayton will be able to say he called it. If he’s average, the Birds will end up somewhere between 7-9 and 9-7, just like 75% of all the other teams out there.
Personally, I would like a more thought out position about Kolb, but if he truly has no idea, I think he should say so in his article, and honestly say how his uncertanty affects his rankings. Otherwise you get this all over the place lazy crap which looks like it could have been written better by my 11 year old daughter.

The biggest question...
… to me is how much protection to O-line will give Kolb. If it performs well, I am rather confident he will be successful. If it collapses, much less so.

The OL got a bum rap last year
in part due to McNabb’s tendancy to hold onto the ball too long. Expect to see articles on the poor Washington line this year.
Granted, we don’t really know if Kolb will be the kind of QB who can and will get rid of the ball in a hurry (think Drew Brees as the best in the league right now at this). If he’s bad at this, or drifts back when pressured, or throws INTs when pressured, rather than finding the open man and hitting him before the blitz can reach him, it might be a long season

Well, in all fairness again… Washington’s line is pretty bad.

The OL still has a bum rap
Its not the greatest, but its doable. And plays are gonna be centered more around Kolb than McNabb this year, expect more quick slants and less bombs. INTs….im a little worried about, but i dont think he’ll have a problem releasing the ball
I'M GONNA TRIP BALLS!!! -Frank Reynolds
I love how all the "bold" reporters are treating Kolb
They are all saying BOTH how great he is, how he fits our scheme and how we’re ready to move on with McNabb…on the other hand they are writing how bad he is as well…I guess so they can all write they were right about him no matter what happens
E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!!!
My biggest complaint with Kolb in his preseason play has been a few of his throws off of his back foot. One, in fairness, was a perfect zip to Desean for about 25 yards…but the mechanics of it were just bad. He had Kyle Boller feet and I fear that with our O-Line right now, we’ll see more of Kolb being uncomfortable back there and tossing off his back foot. He’s not made a ton of bad decisions or anything. But i just hope he doesnt create any bad habits.
Anyway….no matter how you look at it, there is no way Kolb should be rated 24th. With our recieving corps, even I could complete enough passes to crack the top 50% of the league.

A lot of QBs throw off their back foot
Yeah it is a bad move but a lot of them feel comfortable doing it.
I think he’ll be ok — let’s see what happens in regular season when we start actually throwing a real game plan together
E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!!!
I agree. No reason to panic or anything. Just noticed a few of those passes in the past few games. It looked awkward, but as long as he’s comfortable.
We have such a huge test on opening day. We should get a pretty decent gage of who KK is and how well our birds are going to do this year.
(It does help the GB is having major injuries in the secondary. I’d never wish that on them, but its already happened and we may just benefit from it.)

I want to get Jon Gruden’s take on Kolb, just to hear something insanely optimistic. “This kid just LOVES to play the game of football. He makes plays with his hands, his feet, and his head. He’s going to be a superstar in the league for years to come.” Sadly though, he probably said the same thing about JaMarcus Russel at one time.
John Clayton is an akward little douche nugget.
I used to enjoy when Sean Salisbury would rip on him on ESPN.
