Ricky Sapp Scheduled for an MRI
While scanning through the notes from this afternoon's post-practice press conference, I came across several reports that rookie defensive end Ricky Sapp had re-injured his knee during practice and had been scheduled for an MRI. This, of course, was the same knee in which he tore his ACL last year (anyone else sensing a pattern here?).
As one of the players fighting for a roster spot, this injury could be the deciding factor. Sapp's nagging knee pain has certainly been a factor in his limited production so far - he has only two tackles over three preseason games and looked overwhelmed at training camp. Still, regardless of whether the rookie did or did not re-tear his ACL today, it's looking increasingly likely that he will be facing a year on injured reserve, or worse: a pink slip.

PHANTOM INJURY
here’s one of this season’s phantom injuries…putting Ricky on the PUP LIST, until the 6th week to see if he has what it takes. If no one gets hurt…move to the IR. If there was a 55 man roster Ricky Sapp could be on it. Who was it last year again, Fenuki Tupou right?
I guess
if he were cut and put on the PS…he would get swept up.

Yeah
Tupou was redshirted last year, and Dunlap was before him. Both had only minor “injuries.” Sapp’s nagging ACL seems like a legitimate concern, though. I wouldn’t be surprised if they just sent him straight to IR, especially with how poorly he’s been playing and how deep our defensive line is.
true
Give Juqua one more year and assess if he has anything left in the tank after he’s now the #3 or #4 DE. Bring Sapp back when he puts like 5-7 lbs more muscle on. Cut our ties with Victor Abiamiri…DONSKI!!

More like 15 pounds. That guy should be about 265-270 at 6’5". They say he’s 255, but he looks way too slight for that
ummm...
juqua is 6’2’’ 250…is he too small? Been a consistent end for the past few seasons

Some guys can pull it off
Jason Taylor is listed at 6’6" and about 255, and Strahan was like 6’5" (listed anyway) and 255, but they seemed a LOT more substantial than Sapp.
But back to the question…is Juqua too small: I say yes. He always gets worn down as the season goes on, and really is a situational player. Consistent, but his size is not an asset. Plus, you look at Graham who’s 6’1" 265-270 (or Tapp at 6’2" 270) and I think the FO noticed the same thing. With 3 extra inches on JP, Sapp should easily be able to carry 15-20 lbs more.
JP has the fight in him, though and I don’t know if Sapp has it. He seems way too finesse. JP definitely likes hitting folks. I think that makes him play bigger

I agree.
But maybe going on IR will give him a chance to put some muscle on and then see how he is next year.
DAT ASS!!
Sucks, but soo true.
I’m still intrigued enough to fake an injury and try again next year.
Did you notice DTO getting significant time. He seems to be the 3rd DE or at least the 4th. He came in a ton. I though he played OK. I also noticed Lindley looks like he was the nickle corner now. Bad news for Hanson.

I agree.
I think they are just dressing up this situation. Its called getting red shirted. No way he gets cut.

great, he'll learn the playbook and come back strong next year.
this is probably the best possible outcome for him at this point, assuming he doesn’t need surgery or anything.
