The Linc - Donovan McNabb's GQ Interview
Donovan McNabb Helps Us Make Sense of His a) Wildly Successful, or b) Oddly Disappointing NFL career: Sports: GQ
For a decade, his Eagles scored in bunches and played deep into the postseason. Yet there always seemed to be something missing--and not just a Super Bowl ring. An affable guy, he couldn't escape controversy. A thoughtful QB, he often seemed clueless. Before he suits up for the Redskins this fall, McNabb gives his exit interview from the City of Brotherly Love

CSNWashington.com: McNabb in Walking Boot
Two days after sustaining a left ankle injury against Baltimore, Redskins quarterback Donovan McNabb was one of four players who did not practice Monday. McNabb was in walking boot throughout the day and watched practice from the sideline with fullback Mike Sellers (right knee).
Rookie LB showing Eagles he's a game-day player | Philadelphia Inquirer | 08/24/2010
The lights were on, and once again Keenan Clayton shined. Getting his chance against the Bengals' backups Friday, Clayton, a rookie linebacker drafted in the fourth round, intercepted a screen pass from quarterback J.T. O'Sullivan, ending a drive that had advanced into Eagles territory.

Its kind of interesting with Clayton he’s gotten praise from different writers including our own JimmyK but other writers have said they haven’t noticed anything at all from him in practice. Which ones do I believe? I guess since he has done stuff in games I’ll believe Jimmy’s side.
more than anyone else drafted, i’m really interested to see what happens with clayton. once he puts on another 10 pounds, he’s going to be beastly. 229 was what fokou weighed when he was drafted. also……i’m not so worried about him not being a great practice guy. some players just aren’t. andy reid loved to go on about how horrible jeff garcia was in practice. but he got the job done. we need a good nickel LB. i loved this pick.

Another cool story about Kolb
I never knew that he “helped” Winston in that situation. That is something that a leader of a team should do. I swear, my respect and admiration for Kolb is growing daily.
My quarterback hunts wild hogs and kills rattlesnakes in his free time...What does your quarterback do?
OMG. McNabb. Make. It. Stop.
I’m not even gonna get on him for this one, if GQ wanted to ask me some questions, I’d probably do it too.
But for us, for Eagles fans, at this point, nothing good can come of rehashing the same 10 occurrences and dredging up the old feelings for the gabillionth time. (and yeah that’s a number)
McNabb is still my dude and all, but I’m done talking about him (as an Eagles fan) until the week of the Oct. 3 game or his induction into the ring of honor or something. Even with the little bit that’s new here, him wondering why the FO didn’t have his back … what effin’ purpose does it serve to discuss it now?
In the words of someone more famouser than me, “it’s over, yo.”

I don't know
He actually had some new information there.
I liked the interview. I think he got some things out that he couldn’t say while he was here.
I'm now Kolb's biggest fan

(I didn’t notice the horse the first 6 times I saw this movie, BTW)

Okay, to be fair ...
… it’s a good interview. And clearly done in the summer. The guy overwrites in the intro and interlude, but he asks good questions, and gets unique answers. That piece is being hyped by GQ for a reason.
Now that we’ve got the entire McNabb era understood, I’m personally done talking about him for a while. We here at BGN know there are far more people that appreciate him than didn’t, but most of us are excited to see what this new team can do, and it just feels counterproductive to keep rehashing the past.
(and apparently everyone else is too, by not posting on this thread. Brilliant!)

Thanks for stepping in, then ....
although, with Haté, Maclyn and some of the regulars here, I’d have a lot of company

I actually like the intro
I thought it accurately and colorfully depicted McNabb’s stay in Philly. And not one reference to snowballing Santa or throwing D-cells at JD Drew.
It's "Kolb"ering time!
I thought he went to the well of tired stereotypes
but to each his own.

The Kolb piece is pretty good
The tidbits that come out about him as everyone writes basically this same exact story are interesting … Chadiha did a nice job with it, even asking a Chief about playing against him. Word.

Not a bad interview in GQ. Kind of old news though. Please lets get this season started already.

ok wtf.........
Donavan was deff the shit so he can say watever he wants now that he isnt with the birds, sure he didnt win a title and might hav thrown a ball in the dirt once……or twice……. or…watever he was def the best QB in the franchises history, and come week 5 with the way the O-line is gonna look people r gonna rip kolb for not havind dons eluviseness, i hope im wrong thow.
Sigh.
Two things.
It is true that Donovan wasn’t as appreciated as he should have been in Philly.
However, it is not true that the FO didn’t support him.
I’d just love it if everyone concerned could move on.
Veritas Liberabit Te
Bob Ford summarized it well today
It was a greatest hits compilation of McNabb quotes. Now we have the new revelation of the mystery ref who told him there was a 5 minute overtime after the 15 minute overtime. Huh?
Maybe he knew that he would be seen as passing the buck (at the time).
Or maybe he just didn’t want to call out the ref (he is a nice guy after all), but figured it’s not a big deal anymore so there’s no harm in saying it. He has a good sense of humor and he has no reason not to blame himself for something that is ultimately silly, so I don’t think he would just make up the ref thing to deflect blame.
