These may be all over Philly, but I've never seen one like this, and I can't find it online...
I'm looking around and I see a #26 Utley jersey, but it's GREEN. Not only is it Green, but it's EAGLES GREEN! I talk to the guy behind the counter and he says it was some kind of limited run they did, taking baseball jerseys and making them up in that town's football team's colors. So there's a Lincecum Giants jersey in 49er's colors, etc. It's $100, but he says it will probably go on sale after baseball season. Then he says I might find it cheaper online, so I figure I'll either surf for it or wait.
I go home and spend about an hour searching but can't find it. I do find several with the same idea, for about $80, but not with the player and number on the back. I spend the rest of the day obsessing over it, fearing someone will snatch it up, and finally drive over today and pick it up.
There's a different salesperson behind the counter, and she says it's pretty rare, something that only their line of stores did (putting the name & number on). Might be total BS on her part, but it worked for me. I love this jersey for several reasons:
1. I've never seen another one.
2. It appeals to my thriftiness. I can wear it when cheering for the Eagles or Phillies, and on the rare occasion that they might be on at the same time, I'm pretty sure I'll be able to make clocks turn backwards, or at the very least get free drinks.
3. I'm very superstitious about wearing any current Eagles players jerseys. McNabb tore his ACL the day after I bought his jersey, so I'm not willing to mess with that. Yeah, I guess Utley could go down now, but I'm willing to mess with the Gods a little bit in exchange for a really cool jersey.
4. Only serious sport fans will "get it", and I like screwing with people's heads.
GEEKED!!!!
