The Linc - The David Akers Story

David Akers loyal to Eagles, Philly, in sickness and in health | Philadelphia Daily News | 08/19/2010
This is a fantastic piece on David Akers. Seriously, read it.

The Life of Riley - SB Nation Philly
Rookie receiver Riley Cooper has been a major surprise for the Eagles. Can he help the team this year? Where does he fit in?

Schooling the rookies | delawareonline.com | The News Journal
Michael Vick put an exclamation point on the end of another grueling training camp Wednesday morning when he slammed down a thunderous, two-handed dunk in the makeshift basketball court outside the A. Haigh Cundey Field House. Second-year running back LeSean McCoy had wagered a friendly bet that Vick couldn't dunk from a stand-still position. "I love schooling the rookies," Vick joked before driving away, putting Lehigh in his rear-view mirror.

Weekly Whispers: McNabb-Less Camp 'Refreshing'
That was the biggest difference at this year's training camp. There were no superstars, no drama. (Unless DeSean Jackson not talking qualifies as drama.) There was nobody, except the coaches, dragged to the podium to feed clichés to the cameras. One Eagles employee called this Donovan-less training camp "refreshing." Another just labeled it a politically correct "very different."

Cowboys stir minimal interest in San Diego | Dallas Cowboys Blog | Sports News | News for Dallas, Texas | The Dallas Morning News
The Dallas Cowboys' heralded appeal must stop short of San Diego. The Chargers were unable to sell out Saturday night's home exhibition by the Wednesday-evening deadline to avoid a blackout.

Akers

has to be one of the most underratted Eagles of all time. We really don’t know how great we have had it. A good kicker makes a huge difference for a team and we have had one of the best for years.

Cowboys suck.

Well, he hasn’t always been among the best. In fact, I think he was pretty bad for 2 or 3 years there. He’s had quite a resurgence in the past two years though.

He was pretty shaky from 05 through 07. 08 was only saved by him hitting 15 FGs from 40+ yards out.

A year ago I was beginning to wonder if it was time to bring in new blood, but he really turned it around. Nowadays, this paragraph from page 3 of that piece is troublesome…

More often than not, they tell their kids – Luke, 5-year-old Halley and 2 1/2-year-old Sawyer – they probably won’t be living in Medford, N.J., next year, just to prepare for the worst.

You kind of forget about the kicker until he starts missing kicks. Take Dallas for example… Watching Buehler miss a FG by 4 car lengths in the opening preseason game makes you appreciate not having a heart attack every time you send out the kicker.

I used to be really confident in him a few years ago

when he would attempt from 35-50 yards, but ever since 2007 I get a little nervous when h comes out to kick

He had 2 bad years, but the last 2 years he has been great.
