Ernie Sims flattens Brent Celek in practice today. Looked like Big Red wasn't all that happy with it. Via NBC10

For fuck's sake.
You’re making the team, Ernie. Knock it off!

This would be my sentiment exactly.
Some guys just don’t know how to shut it off though. We used to call this one guy Full-Speed Phil. He was slow and unathletic, but always ready to crack a fool under his helmet.

I'm excited about this.
I know that a lot of people are high on Sims making a huge impact this season. I’m actually psyched that he is a hard hitting mofo.
"They say that nobody is perfect. Then they tell you practice makes perfect. I wish they'd make up their minds." - Wilt Chamberlain
Like I said
I think he’ll lead the team in tackles and will be back in Pro Bowl conversations by the end of the season.
sims just put a shoulder into him, stew is the one that’s in the air divin at him. And as far is big red is concerned: you want hitting practices then your players are gonna get hit when they go over the middle in between 2 linebackers. you don’t like it have no hitting
No reason to deck one of the keys to the season. But I can’t wait to see him on the field if he’s hitting his own team like this than what’s he going to do to the Packers?

he just laid a shoulder into him. Stewart Bradley was diving at him for crying out loud. that jhit from sims is absolutely nothing next to the several decleaters he has had on buckley this camp
The difference is Buckley's expendable.
In theory, though, you should dial it back if it’s 1s going at 1s in practice. But again, some guys have only one setting, and it’s better to be stuck on “go hard” than “loaf.”

not really what I am saying
The hit he laid would have been significantly less impactful had stewart bradley not been diving at Celek and trying to cut him in half at the same point
Come on, save this kind of hitting for the season ernie, not your fellow players. Ernie should lay up a bit now.

I couldn't see anything in the video but....
Still it’s practice. This is football and these are contact reps so Brent deal with it and try to get a good block/pancake later on him. The only guys that should be really excused of getting hit hard are the QB’s.
Man's best freind is not a dog....but an Eagle
its a hit...
and its football.
you want him to take it easy on “one of the keys to the season”. thats definitely how they’ll get better..

It’s a hit? WTF? This is football right? Maybe it was a bit over the top but again, it’s football…it also looked like Stew was involved in the hit, maybe at the very end but whatever. Celek is fine, he’s a big boy, literally and figuratively, he can take a hit and move on.
Looking forward to the Kevin Kolb era.
5-8-10...the day the Purdue Boilermakers basketball team won the 2011 NCAA Championship!!
To all the people saying 'it's football'
No shit.
It’s a matter of being able to get full-speed reps in during practice, so you practice like you play, as every coach everywhere pretty much likes to say.
If you can go full speed to the ball and give a little thud and not risk injuring your own teammates, and not have that be a problem on Sundays, do that.
If you only know one way to play and that’s full steam ahead, then offensive players on the Eagles will have to learn to deal with it. But we’ll probably cost ourselves a man-game or five somewhere down the line rolling like that, so it’s imperative that the gains of going hard in practice are worth it.

I feel like
Andy should just line up a lot of expendable WRs and RBs and just let Ernie smack them one after the other.
“Okay, Jordan, run a curl.” (BOOM!!) “Okay, J.J., run a toss left.” (BOOM!!)
Get it out of his system.

This isn't like this was unknown about Sims until this camp
At FSU, he was known to knock himself out during practice, so often that they had to give him a special jersey just so guys could watch out for him.
Same thing in Detroit…Millen was talking about that when we traded for Sims and Spuds or someone at PE.com interviewed him.
That's why
Next to Trent Cole, Ernie Sims is my favorite player on the Eagles. I almost passed out when we got him. I had a man crush on him coming out of FSU.
Reid has a choice
1) Don’t scrimmage with the ones
2) Don’t put players in full pads
3) Don’t piss and moan when a starter gets rocked
Take the pads off the Defense?

sims is an animal
and i love it, seriously reading this convo about a linebacker that hits TOO HARD is absolutely hilarious to me after last years debacle at lb.

For the people who are complaining about the big hit...
…perhaps Celek should wear a red jersey?

cmon now...........
im down for guys being aggressive but cmon, blowin up Celek is a lot different from blowin up Eldra Buckley, if he woulda hurt celek their woulda been a million posts on here ready 2 crucify him. Im sure by now everyone knows hes a badass he needs 2 chill out and save it for the Packers week 1……..but i guess hes just wired that way. I just hope he doesnt hurt djax or himself b4 the season starts.

Celek has 4 inches and 25 pounds on Ernie Sims. I think he can take that hit just fine. Besides, why not practice tattooing TEs now so that Witten and Cooley think twice about going over the middle?
I put a dollar in a change machine. Nothing changed.

way to go cinnabon
If you call contact in practice, you need to understand that there will be contact.
Hell, I’ve given that shoulder to people myself. Its nothing, celek was off balance.
Besides.. would you guys rather him not hit, and wiff on tackles in the real games?

was it really all Sims?
In the video it almost looks like Stew had just as much to do with it. I wasn’t there, but thats what the video makes it look like. And if you think that THAT was a big hit from Sims, just wait til the season starts.
