The Linc - Unga works out for Eagles & grading the 2007 draft

ksl.com - Harvey Unga tries out for NFL scouts, talks about new family
BYU's all-time leading rusher, Harvey Unga, is hoping since he can't return to play his senior season with the Cougars he can jump to the NFL right now. He tried out at Pro Day in Provo Thursday. The Philadelphia Eagles, Chicago Bears, Pittsburg Steelers and 17 other NFL scouts were in Provo to measure, weigh and work out Unga.

2007 draft review: JaMarcus Russell flop seals Raiders' fate - USATODAY.com
Philadelphia Eagles: Incomplete - They traded out of the first round and made QB Kevin Kolb (2nd) their initial pick. His performance this season and beyond will define this draft. MLB Stewart Bradley (3rd) had a promising 2008 but lost 2009 to a preseason knee injury. TE Brent Celek (5th) was a steal; RB Tony Hunt (3rd) is looking for work.

LeBron, McNabb and a shot at Eagles fans | Philly | 07/08/2010
Why in the world would an ESPN video about LeBron James and Cleveland include a photo of Donovan McNabb? The answer might surprise you. Well, actually, it probably won't.

With April Gone, Bills' Corto Faces Uphill Climb - Buffalo Rumblings
Former Buffalo Bills special teams coach Bobby April is widely regarded as one of the very best at his particular craft. An NFL coach since 1991, April spent six seasons with the Bills, including his last four with the added title of assistant head coach. Responsible for putting together teams that perennially ranked near the top of the NFL in most statistical categories, April will continue his stellar coaching career with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2010.

LeBron James' announcement tonight could scar city of Cleveland forever | Philly2Philly.com
The best way I can relate to this LeBron James fiasco as a Philly fan would probably be during the Will LeBron James turn his back on Cleveland? You remember, the off-season where Reggie White, the greatest defensive end the team has ever seen, left the Birds for greener pastures (literally) in what was known as a major groundbreaking moment in NFL Free Agency.

The dude grade draft classes and gave Pats an A+ because they traded away all their picks? Wow, if that isn’t typical national media sucking Patriots’ balls for sake of it, then I don’t know my own freaking name. Especially since Merriweather is mediocre and is the ONLY player in the draft class still on the team. No, seriously, nine guys selected, one guy left three years later.

’06 and ’07 draft were complete bombs for Patriots.

RIP Jim Johnson, best ever.

not complete

But I generally agree with your thoughts.

2010-11 Predictions:

Kevin Kolb will go to the probowl and complete >65% of passes.

Jeremy Maclyn will have more receptions than Miles Austin & Steve Smith

Graham will have the starting LDE spot tied up by week 5, win ROTY, and have >10 Sacks

11-5 finish.

Ok

The team, the players exist to entertain the fans. PERIOD. Their thanks is their paycheck. Their reward for playing well is the self gratification of doing a good job and being part of a team. Take the names of their jerseys, stop creating signature shoes and put this into perspective. Entertain us or get boo’d. Win or be traded.

by MightyJoeBanner on Jul 9, 2010 2:10 PM EDT reply actions

What the heck?

Even if Kolb turns out to be only a lower-tier QB, in the 20-25 range, getting that plus Stewart Bradley and Brent Celek — without even having a first round pick — is a very strong draft.

Unless they mean “incomplete because we’re not sure if it’s an A- or an A+ yet”, incomplete is just stupid.

I mean, to calibrate things, the Giants get an A- because all eight of their picks contributed — and I don’t disagree with that. But would they trade five backups, Steve Smith, Kevin Boss, and Jay Alford for Kevin Kolb, Brent Celek, and Stewart Bradley? Even if Kolb is only mediocre, I think the answer is yes.

by Eric T. on Jul 9, 2010 2:29 PM EDT reply actions

In two words, um no

Be realistic. Bradley would be a nice pickup, and Celek is a better receiver than Boss (I haven’t seen enough Eagles game to comment on his blocking). But seriously, what would we do with Kolb for the next 7 years or so while Eli is the starter? You think they would give up Ross (starter when he’s healthy, at least a valuable nickleback), Boss, Bradshaw (explosive off the bench, some argue he’s the best runner the Giants have), and oh yeah, the guy who led the freaking NFC in receptions for a backup QB, a LB, and a TE?

That “Backup QB” Unseated a proven starter who won 10 games a year. Bradly is a beast and I wouldn’t trade him for any Giants LB and, that TE was 7th in receptions 4th in yards and, tied for 4th in TDs. So I would consider him top 5 in the NFL at this point.

by sowhatifitisasportste on Jul 11, 2010 5:18 PM EDT up reply actions

Unseated?

I saw a move made for youth and probably salary cap, but did Kolb win an outright training camp battle? Eli is also several years younger than McNabb, has a longer contract, and a Super Bowl win, and is coming off of the best statistical season of his career (while suffering a painful foot injury to boot). I would not trade that for a career 1-1 player no matter what his potential might be, and I am pretty sure no Giants fan would either.

Yes McNabb was unseated by Kobb, QB shelflife is much longer then a RB. For example over the past 10 years or so think of the number of 30+ yo running backs that had good years. They are out there but now think of the number of 30+ QBs that had good seasons so McNabb’s age had nothing to do with it..

Good stuff on the interview over on BBV

I think its funny about half way down the comments on that interview, the Giants fan start bashing the Eagles.

Don’t really see the point in bringing in Unga when we brought in Bell and Scott

I think that if

LeBron was the centerpiece of a couple more unceremonious playoff exits, he and McNabb would have similar places on the mantle of failure. Seven years and eleven years are a big difference. Right or wrong, if Lebron failed to win a trophy in Cleveland for another four years, the whispers would turn to loud boos.

He better hopes he gets a couple in “South Beach” (it’s Miami, dipshit) or he’ll be remembered as the king of nothing.

It's "Kolb"ering time!

id be suped ........

if we sumhow got Unga, he looks like a beast and runs like a guy whos pissed the fuk off. Nuttin against Scott i think he has potential 2. Y not let them battle it out in camp???

by goldenbird09 on Jul 9, 2010 4:14 PM EDT reply actions

I think that if we do draft Unga.

Then either him or Scott will go down on IR with an “injury” and then we will let Bell go in FA after this season. Then we have McCoy as our 1st back, Unga as our backup, and Scott will be our 3rd down back and goal line specialist because he’s like a fucking wrecking ball.
