Can u really hate his decision? He's taking a pay cut to win a championship.
Ohio native and Cavs fan Brent Celek is ok with Lebron's decision.

BUT… i have mixed feelings about it.. It makes it interesting because i think it would be exciting to watch the two superstars and bosh, too bad its not here in philly. Even so, i would say i have lost a little respect for LBJ on how this whole free agency thing was brought upon with the hour long special. Considering the Sixers don’t look like they’ll contend any time soon, especially if Turner can’t prove a difference in the regular season, i might be rooting for the heat. If AI and Shaq somehow land in Miami as well, i’m hoping for a lot of nationally televised Heat games.
so you will root for a different team because your teams not a contender? Hmmm. Sounds a little bandwagonish to me. Don’t hurt yourself getting on and off that thing.

I agree with Brent Celek that the decision is fine. James was a free agent, and he has every right to do what he thinks is best for himself. However, the way that decision was communicated to the Cleveland Cavaliers and their fans was absolutely shameful. I previously had no feelings one way or another toward James, and I barely even follow the NBA, but I think I’ll be rooting against him for the remainder of his career.

you do realize...
that one of the main reasons he called a massive press conference was the raise money for kids who are underprivileged. in a economy where even the rich are not donating as much anymore, any way to raise cash is needed and i applaud James for using his status to help those who have none.
second, James have given the Cavs seven years to keep him for life. He told them literally, give me a strong supporting cast and I am your for life. Chicago was able to do it, Miami was able to do it, yet Cleveland made attempts, but did not. If my own hometown was not able to provide for me, yet wanted me to hand them a championship on a gold dish, i would be a little miffed too…
that being said, i think he could have handled it better for the fans. There was little remorse from him and if anything, thats what i didnt like. but…. LeBron James is a serious class act and an all around good guy, attributes hard to find among SUPER superstars and because of that, i will still be rooting for him, just like i was rooting for Cleveland ever year.

Yup, that’s fine and good. I’m all for helping underprivileged kids. After all, children are our future. And I’ll reiterate… I have no problem with him signing with a team he felt was in a better position to win. But to put the Cleveland Cavaliers organization and the Cleveland fans in a position where they had to find out that he wasn’t returning to their team in the manner he chose, is disgraceful.
But yourself in the shoes of Cleveland fans. Picture it’s the offseason before the 2005 season. The Eagles are coming off a Super Bowl loss, but our QB is young, very talented, and the future is extremely bright. But, in this hypothetical scenario, Donovan McNabb is a free agent, and there’s no such thing as a franchise tag. If he stays, the Eagles are still probably considered one of the 3 best teams in the league. If he leaves, they’re bottom 10. Now, can you honestly tell me you wouldn’t be furious if he handled his free agency the same way LeBron James did?
You want to raise money for kids? Great. I applaud that – Find another way to do it.

here is the flaw in your scenario
If you are gonna compare it like that, its more like McNabb coming of a NFC Championship or semi-final game for four of five years straight, and is now a free agent. He asks for that one killer wide receiver and they give him decent receivers, but those that still need McNabb. He doesn’t get that game-changer and after 7 seasons, he walks. Yeah i would be bloody pissed, but it isn’t McNabb’s fault for walking, you can’t blame him! the fault lies in the Eagles FO, just like the fault that LeBron walked, lies solely in the hands of the Cleveland Cavaliers FO.

The charity was a ploy to gain some good karma.
He has enough to just donate millions to Boys and Girls if he wants. He doesn’t need a dog and pony show to do it and he doesn’t need to rip out an entire city’s heart on national TV to do it either. That’s a lame excuse for the show. He had every right to leave. He had every right to take his time deciding. Cleveland never really gave him much to work with, I agree. But he handled this whole thing very poorly. Very, very poorly. I lost a ton of respect for him. Also, any respect I gained for ESPN for the way they’ve handled the World Cup is gone. They are, and have been for years, whores. Slutty, slutty whores.
how was it a ploy
when the Boys and Girls along with ESPN approached him to do it. He had no plans for this until then?

Yeah…yeah, you can. Just ask Cav owner Dan Gilbert and his opinion. I personally like his guaranteed and Heaven quote.
RIP Jim Johnson, best ever.
Yeah, I read that too. Gilbert is going to wish he took a deep breath before he let loose with that rant, but for people like you and me, it’s awesome. I also love the guarantee as well, as utterly ridiculous as it is.

Dan Gilbert is mostly upset because his franchise was just devalued an estimated $100 million.

Oof… Wow. I once bought a decent amount of stock in a company called XTL Biopharmaceuticals for about $4/share. A month later, it fell to $0.08 overnight. For the rest of my life, I’ll never forget that ticker – XTLB. I think it trades on pink sheets now. I still own those shares, too, haha.
Anyway, I believe I had a rant similar to Gilbert’s, so I absolutely feel his pain.

Maybe I'm wrong...
I applaud Gilbert for appearing ballsy (that letter really fired me up when I first read it), but this is the same group (Gilbert, Ferry, and Mike Brown) that for years did not try to find another great player for LeBron to team with, instead leaning on fourth-tier players like Mo Williams, over-the-hill guys like Jamison, Big Z, and Shaq, and utter bile like Larry Fucking Hughes.
They could have gotten Amare at the deadline. They could have showed they really wanted to win with LeBron now and they could have shown they were willing to take some risks to get the players he wanted. All it took was moving JJ Hickson. But they blew it. Hard.
All LeBron’s done for the Cavs is mask their pitiful FO and Mike Brown’s stupidity (very few are more ill-suited to coach). He took a team to the Finals that had Big Z and Larry Hughes; they could have easily gone and gotten another perennial All-Star, since (IMO) what player wouldn’t pass up the chance of playing with LeBron and (possibly) winning multiple titles?
I am not a LeBron apologist, but I couldn’t stand how utterly inept the Cavs’ FO was while he was there.

Really
LeBron is a chump…he is the best player in the world and he cant get one of his “buddies” to sign with him. Instead he goes to WADE"S County…. I’m not a Lebron fan at all but honestly there is no fun in puttin 3 players in their prime on the same team… I always believe in earnin your championship the way that Jordan,Magic, Kobe and Shaq did. Lebron will never be looked at the same again and the funny thing is they are not gonna win a title this year…..LOL

This completely Invalidates Lebron
And since we talking about kids, here’s what this says to me
“hey kids, when times get tough, screw hardwork and perserverance, just take the easy road out”.
And for those who talk positively about chosing championship over money, i dont think that works in this situation. That type of thing should be saved for someone who stayed where they were to win, not someone who left to create a powerhouse.
Any comparrison to Jordan… or Kobe, or Magic or Bird etc are done at this point. I dont care if Lebron wins 7 in a row, he just completely invalidated himself in my book.
I mean, i understand why he did it. but any subsequent championships that result are not impressive to me.
Brent Celek>Keith Brooking
You’re killing LeBron’s legacy because he’s now playing with great players?
Magic Johnson played with Kareem and James Worthy.
Larry Bird played with Kevin McHale, Robert Parish, Dennis Johnson, and Bill Walton (bench).
All those players are Hall-of-Famers.
Michael Jordan played with Scottie Pippen (soon to be in the HOF) and a number of very capable veterans and journeymen who fit well in their roles (Rodman, Harper, Kerr, etc.)
Kobe Bryant has only had success when he’s had Shaq, Gasol, Payton, Malone, Odom, eic. around (not at the same time, of course.)
Just an observation.

People are crazy
My guess is that a large number of the people who detest the king for making his announcement this way also probably watched it on tv, which to me, truely illustrates the complexity of their rationale. I hate FOX News…so I dont watch it. Im not yelling via keyboards to tell the nation how much I cant believe its on tv. And Jordan had help (pippen, kerr, and rodman) Kobe had help(Shaq, Gasol, Artest) and please dont tell me that Magic did it on his own. Having the all-time leading scorer probably doesn’t help much
Furthermore....
I doubt Lebron will be in Wades shadow..In fact, if these three are able to win a title with no conceivable way to formulate a bench..then it just heightens how great of players these three are. Because if you watch ESPN, the experts say you cant win a title without a bench. And who doesn’t believe the “never-was” experts on tv?
lebron showed his true colors by taking the easy path. his legacy will never be that of kobe, jordan, bird, etc….
your an idiot dude
why can the legacy of kobe, jordan, and bird be with the help of other hall-of-fame players, but Lebron’s can’t. Stop being mad in the moment and give him his props for being a top 2 player in this league.
I love how a player's legacy can he decided when he's 25.
What was Kobe’s legacy when he was 25? A talented but overrated player with a ten-cent head and an ego the size of California who could never win without Shaq. And lest we forget, Kobe wanted out too and was thisclose to being traded to Chicago.
You have a brain, USE IT.

Idiot,
I should have explained what a legacy was, and thats my fault. Nobody is referring to what he does before the start of his Heat career as a 25 year old. People are saying that he will never be as good as those mentioned because if he wins a title, it will be with the help of great players, thus, his legacy is diminished. Eventhough, Jordan couldn’t win without the help of other hall-of-famers. Same as Kobe and the same as Bird. How they start their career is almost irrelevant. What matters are the accomplishments and how they were acquired. One’s legacy is judged at the end of a career and not at the beginning.
I don't know if you thought I was calling you an idiot,
but that wasn’t meant for you, joem. In fact, I agree 100% with everything you said.

Somewhere in Hattiesburg, Mississippi...
…Brett Favre is full of cheer that it’s over. He is now meticulously planning his “Decision Special” which is going to air in ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN3, CNN, FOX News, NBC News, CBS News, ABC News, CNN, and…the NFL Network simultaneously.
Jim Johnson(RIP). Brian Westbrook(36). Donovan Mcnabb(5). Brian Dawkins(20). Sheldon Brown(24). Jeremiah Trotter(54).
Thanks for the memories...
He's not taking a pay cut in Miami
They have no state tax, so I’m pretty sure he’ll make the same amount.
And he could stumble upon a bag of leprechaun gold in Miami.
I think people are referring to the contract numbers, which are the only predictable figures which can be discussed. Other numbers are potential earnings and only Ms. Cleo knows about those.
Yes....
when you ruin all NBA fans’ entertainment, by making the Heat a complete superpower and not giving any other team a chance in the playoffs.
The Heat have four players under contract: LeBron, Wade, Bosh, and Mario Chalmers.
Considering they’ll have to fill out their roster with bottom-of-the-barrel veterans and second-round rookies, the Heat are going to be a horribly thin team this year. They’re somewhat fucked if one of the Big 3 gets injured, a totally screwed if 2 of them get hurt.
They’re a lot more vulnerable than people think.
