Why I can't fully get behind Kolb

Before you guys totally slam me please just bare in mind that I have only been watching football a year and I amnot from the US
Like a lot of people I understood that a change would have to happen with Mcnabb aging and entering the last year of his contract. But I disliked Kolb's comment whilst Mcnabb was still with the Eagles. I remember him saying this:
“Obviously my goal is to be the starter and to start for 16 games and to lead this team as far as we can go. Personally, I don’t have a lot of personal goals right now, they’re more team-oriented, besides me getting on the field and proving I can take over this thing.”
At this point Mcnabb was still the starter. To me this just sounded arrogant and cocky. All NFL players go though hours of media training and I found it strange that he did not just say something like as far as he knows Mcnabb is still the starting QB of this franchise and just change the subject.
Now I have to support this guy if he is going to lead us to the superbowl so I welcome your comments.

There's nothing arrogant about that comment whatsoever.
If his main goal wasn’t to be the starter of the team that drafted him in the 2nd round then he needs to get the hell out of the NFL, Kafka and Vick should have the exact same goal now that Kolb is the starter.

I don’t think that’s the best reason to not support him, McNabb has had his fair share of stupid comments (overtime?). I’ve got my worries about Kolb, but at this point he’s our starting QB and hopefully the future of the franchise, so you’re gonna have to find a way to fully support him. Kolb is the face of the Eagles, and if you don’t support Kolb then you’re not supporting the Eagles.

It’s possible for me to criticize and dislike the president while still loving America. It’s possible for me to dislike my car salesman while still supporting GM and Ford. Kolb is a (flawed) piece in a much larger machine. Hopefully, gameplanning orients the Eagles so that Kolb’s significance is that of a flawed windshield wiper or busted rear tail light as opposed to a crappy transmission or cracked engine block.

This is the most naive thing anyone could say. Every single football fan, including you, has someone on the team that they support that they don’t like. It’s ridiculous for you to say that if he’s not supporting Kolb, then he’s not supporting the Eagles. You even said you have your worries, which means you’re not FULLY on board either. Maybe you should think about what you plan to say before you say it. You just made yourself look really STUPID!

I, for one, welcome all fans and I’m glad you could break the mold and start appreciating a man’s man’s sport!
It’s tough to always say the right thing all the time, but Kolb new that he would eventually be the starter. I don’t think he was implying that he was better than Mcnabb, but stating that he is ready for when he is needed. It was also selfless because he said that he wasn’t focused on personal goals (like every other NFL player) and solidified that the team comes first. I can’t think of a better way to say that he is ready to be our starter than he did with this quote.

I just got back yesterday from being abroad for 3 months… all everyone did was talk shit about football so I’m glad to see someone with sense enough to try and engage themselves in the greatest sport on earth. You are the stereotypical American that gives us all a bad name… and there was nothing i hated more than seeing a gaggle of stupid Americans acting like morons and thinking they’re better than everyone and own everything.
Maybe if you got off your couch and expanded your horizons, you would see that being an asshole isn’t always cool.

when we got to go to a liberty port we would be in france and italy and i would have to listen to these retards “wheres the fuckin mcdonalds” “this place sucks” “no one speaks english, this is gay” …. i wanted to pull my hair out , thank god i had a number 4. I was trying to embrace the culture and try the local foods and had assholes like that everywhere i went. I still had fun though.

LOL at this…I was in Paris and italy on vacation in the spring,and i tried to learn some phrases in French and Italian to get us directions, order food, find the restroom, etc, and most people if you tried their language, would reveal that they knew English.
In Paris one night though, I couldn’t read the menu and the waiter didn’t know a word of English…so I resorted to ordering a cheeseburger.

Do you mind if I ask where you're from and how you got into football?
I’d be interested to know how a non-American gets into American football. If you are from Canada, then it’s easy, but I get the impression you are not from North America at all.
Or did you recently move to the US and got into football once you were here?
I am from the UK. I am a massive sports fan in general( Soccer, Cricket, Rugby, Motorsport, Hockey etc…) . Football is not really shown in the uk unless you pay for a subsription service. They do however show the superbowl for free. (However it does start at midnight here). I got cable last year and just started watching.

and did you choose the Eagles because it is the most majestic animal alive and just proclaims dominance? That sounds right. We’ll go with that. Anyway, us soccer fans over here get some MLS action on ESPN or now with a local Philly team we can sometimes catch it opn a local network, but to see any thing from the EPL or Italia Serie A we also have to pay a subscription fee so I feel you on that.

I chose the Eagles as I saw them in the Superbowl and wanted to shout for the underdogs. Then this season whilst having a look for my options to support a team, the Eagles looked like the best option. A great heritage but no rings. They also had a good qb and hb.
Regarding Soccer on TV in the UK. Pretty much every game you have to pay on a subsription channel. Not even all England games are free to watch and we pay for that team out of our taxes!

that may be true but that doesn’t necessarily translate to quality songs. Look at Jin or Canibus (who I think got a raw deal personally). Freestyle rapping does not a great rapper make.

i was watching traning camp the other day and kolb just holds the ball out there anyone including the worst defensive rookie out there he needs to hold on to the ball better when he scrambles or Teams will have a day with kolb

An Eagles Fan, Or A Player Groupy????
I’ve defended Donovan several times here. I hated to see him go. In my opinion he did one helluva job for the Eagles. And I wish him well in DC…..except when he play the Eagles. Many fans become player groupies…..they become attached to a player and can’t let go. I’ve lived through many transition periods and rebuilding periods with the Eagles, going all the way back to Norm VanBrocklin…..(waiting for the old timer jokes…lol). And I have my favorite players too, but once a player leaves I’m still an Eagles fan. I’m an Eagles fan first and foremost. I loved Dawk….hated to see him go. But he’s gone. Donovan is gone. The Eagles are still here. I love this team…..and since Lurie took over, I love them even more. Kolb is the new QB. He had one helluva mentor and teacher in Donovan. He knows the team, knows the playbook. He has my support 100%………because I’m an Eagles fan Goooooooooooooo Eagles……………….
