Around SBN: UFC 146 Predictions

The first first-round pick of the 2010 draft class has just been signed, and it's none other than the Cowboys' Dez Bryant. Although Bryant was selected down at pick #24, this move will hopefully speed up the process for the Eagles contract negotiations with Brandon Graham.

UPDATE (7/23/10 1:45 p.m.): The Cowboys have just announced the signing of Sean Lee, their second round pick (#55 overall). Looks like the ball is starting to roll...

If Hobbs is healthy and productive (and that is a big ‘if’), the Eagles will have 2 legit starting CBs. The issue is if he isn’t because there isn’t many answers after that. Hanson, Harris, and Lindlay?

by MG77 on Jul 23, 2010 9:47 AM EDT up reply actions

I don’t think Hobbs being healthy is a big if, he should be healthy this season. But he’s not a very good corner, decent at best. Not very likely of Hobbs being productive.

RIP Jim Johnson, best ever.

thank you

but I thought he was a good corner

by Musiccitynorm on Jul 23, 2010 8:32 PM EDT up reply actions

No. He get burnt rather easily, like in the Pats-Giants Super Bowl, he was the one who blew the coverage on Plaxico Burress for the go-ahead TD.

RIP Jim Johnson, best ever.

Over rated tune when you see him action…dude is a stud….and we have pretty good cb’s and he’s been doing some good stuff on them…so it should be fun…

bc 1) you’ve seen him in person so far 2) you’ve seen him play in a NFL game & know he’s up to that speed 3) the corners are playing their best 4)they’ve played in pads or 5) you watched him play in college. I’m going to open door #6 & say your just saying that because you want to believe it

Dez Bryant regardless of the talent he played against was a man among boys in college. If he can translate that into the NFL like Megatron and Crabtree were able to he will be a monster.

There is definitely a reason to be cautious of him, he could be great and that would suck.

I sure hope this gets the ball rolling, last year Philly already had McCoy signed in June I believe.

This year teams have been slow to sign their picks, and it only seems to get worse every year. I have faith that Allen will be signed shortly, maybe miss a couple days of camp max (hope not), but I’m not confident that Graham will be. He doesn’t sound like he wants to be a hold out, but his agent could interfere with his plan. 13 picks is a shit load of signatures though, so I have to tip my cap to Roseman and Banner on getting 11 of the draftees signed thus far.

I really think once Bradford signs, then the domino effect will start.

good news for us, better news for the Redskins

The Redskins need these first round signings to start happening more than just about any other team. What other LT options do they really have? It could be a looooong season for McNabb if they can’t get Williams up to speed quick.

by pennstater on Jul 23, 2010 8:54 AM EDT reply actions

Get he has at least one big game against the Eagles and whoever is playing RCB.

by MG77 on Jul 23, 2010 9:45 AM EDT reply actions

probably

Where is he projected to line up?

I don’t mind him so much on the outside (though I think hobbs may have a huge disadvantage against him)

But I in the slot he’ll absolutely kill us if he has any actual catching ability.

2010-11 Predictions:

Kevin Kolb will go to the probowl and complete >65% of passes.

Jeremy Maclyn will have more receptions than Miles Austin & Steve Smith

Graham will have the starting LDE spot tied up by week 5, win ROTY, and have >10 Sacks

11-5 finish.

Am I wrong to be bitter about this?

I hated when the Cowboys drafted Dez (I think he’s one of the most talented WRs to come out since Calvin Johnson or Larry Fitzgerald; yes I think he’s better than Crabtree and Maclin… but I hope I’m wrong.)

And to make matters worse, he becomes the first 1st round pick to be signed even though he was vastly under-drafted, he has Eugene Parker as an agent who has had 90% of his draft picks holdout and he’s on the team that opens camp first.

Call me bitter, but with Bryant I was hoping to have another Michael Crabtree type holdout…

by Smitty2K3 on Jul 23, 2010 9:52 AM EDT reply actions

Your bitterness is perfectly understandable

and in direct proportion to the glee which most Cowboys fans are feeling currently. :D

Yea I wasn’t thrilled by it either. But it was essentially the same thing with maclin. He just happened to fall into our laps, I am sure cowboy fans weren’t happy about that.

by Tbot86 on Jul 23, 2010 11:27 AM EDT up reply actions

And this year, they’ll especially not be happy. Roll coverage deep over desean, see what happens

Pretty sure teams were doing that half way through the season last year, Desean just burns past them.

well i meant

That rolling over desean means that maclin will also be left open. Maclin gonna have a huge year.

with much respect

Dallas has guys who can cover across the board, Newman, Jenkins, Scandrick, Sensibaugh, and now Ball an ex corner who is to small to play safety because he is going to suck against the run but be really good in coverage.
Regardng Ball, you have to actually run the ball to take advantage of that.

No its Celek who will hurt the Cowboys the most.

by Musiccitynorm on Jul 23, 2010 7:11 PM EDT up reply actions

2 things about this,,,

1) Dallas signings are nothing but good news it means the pieces are falling into place for our rookies to sign. Allen should be done this week. 2) The scariest part about Dez Bryant is that he’ll make teams play single coverage on Miles Austin.

by IgglesFanDeployd on Jul 23, 2010 2:15 PM EDT reply actions

this is very true

I mean realistically we knew they’d be signed. Being upset by this is like being pissed that that sun comes up

you guys

Have your fair share of gun-jumpers I’m sure. I imagine you even have more considering the bandwagon nature of your team

bandwagon nature... sure

I bet you hang on both sides of the argument… Cowboys have 1 playoff victory in 15 years, but all the fan only root for them because they are good.

we could easily say Eagles fans only root for Philly because they keep winning superbowls… oh, wait.
