Cowboys kicker David Buehler Can Do It All! (except kick field goals)
This week, Cowboys' kicker David Buehler went on the radio and spent a good portion of the interview bragging about what a good athlete he was. His revelation that he beat defensive back DeAngelo Smith in a race last season even made a bunch of headlines.
He was talking a bunch of trash, so I just shut him up. I knew I had the speed. It made me a little bit of capital, as well. So, there was a little bit on the line.
He went on to say that he could beat WR Patrick Crayton and RB Tashard Choice in a foot race as well. But that's not all, this athletic wonder can also apparently out-lift defensive lineman.
The other day, actually, funny you asked – went in the gym; it was me, (tight end) John Phillips , Igor (defensive end, Igor Olshansky) and D-Ware (linebacker, DeMarcus Ware). It wasn't a mandatory lift, and then me and Igor got under, ah, 225. I think he did it 22 times, and I just wanted to one-up him, so I did it 23. I'm not sure if that's all he had. I'm sure he could have done more, but all he did was 22 and then put the bar up. And, I was, like, 'Alright, I'm getting 23.' So, I did beat Igor, and then it got a little bit to his head.
Impressive huh? This guy must be an awesome kicker right? Well... that's hard to say, given that he's never even attempted a FG in the NFL and was nothing more than a kickoff specialist last year.
In fact, the Cowboys had so little trust in Buehler that when starting kicker Nick Folk was so bad that he was only hitting on 64% of his FGs, they not only didn't let Buehler even have a shot, they cut Folk and signed Shaun Suisham. The same Shaun Suisham that was so bad for the Redskins that they cut him midseason! The Shaun Suisham that couldn't hit a chip shot to win a game against the Saints! In fact, no team in the NFL missed more FGs than the Dallas Cowboys did last year and David Buehler still didn't earn a chance to try even one.
So yeah... we're all really impressed with how fast David Buehler can run!

Yeah, my thing with the Cowboys is their OL, but this is also a major concern for them. Mosley had an encouraging quote (from our perspective) about Buehler when he visited their mini camp… It was something to the effect of “I was watching Buehler practice FG’s, and he looked a lot like me at the local driving range.” Ouch.
It’s a fairly risky roll of the dice here by Dallas, and it’s one of the things I plan on keeping my eye on during the preseason games. I’m almost rooting for him to do well so they go into the season with him as their primary kicker.

I went to high school with him
He used to be a pretty cool guy. He may have been your prototypical jock personality but he was still a decent dude. Looks like joining the Cowboys turned him into a douche though.
"That's what I love so much about this team. We have some warriors here. We have some guys who go out there and fight. That's the best thing about this team. No matter what happens, we just keep fighting. You have to love that."
Doesnt that always happen?

I distrust those people who know so well what God wants them to do, because I notice it always coincides with their own desires.
Wow really this makes front page BGN
You love to hate the Cowboys.
They didn’t go with him because he didn’t practice FGs all year. FG is more about technique then power. Thats what happened with Folk he had offseason surgery and couldnt get the reps in during the offseason. He starts missing in the regular season and then it all went to his head and boom he lost it.
Yeah its a gamble but I gotta trust the FO and by FO I mean JJ. He has been working with Chris Bonoi all offseason. So I have to assume hes got it down. Hes avg at USC was better then the Cowboys avg last year.
He was the best at kicking Touchbacks last year. Now hes going to kick FGs too. Well maybe even if he cant control his accuracy the cowboys might try more fakes since he is so Fast! haha
Really?! Really?!

It’s a slow time and this dudes a douche … why not.
They call me The Professor.
He's got a boot though
I’d probably roster a kickoff specialist if I knew he’d lead the league in touchbacks. It obviously makes sense that he learn to hone the craft to put it between the uprights. Hopefully by the time he figures that out he’s on a different roster.

But can he kick through the uprights? We'll see.
Kickers aren’t required to lift at the NFL Combine, but Buehler did. He bench pressed 225 pounds 25 times in a row and ran a pair of unofficial 40-yard dashes in 4.56 and 4.63 seconds. Comparing his bench press results against the 2010 Combine class would have made David Buehler the strongest wide receiver, the strongest cornerback (tied), the second strongest safety, the third strongest tight end and the third strongest running back. Only one tight end and one linebacker posted a faster 40-yard time this year than David Buehler’s unofficial 4.56. From The Bossness of David Buehler.

Ok, that's just UNFAIR
and was nothing more than a kickoff specialist last year.
What he was is probably the best Kickoff specialist in the League last year.
That’s all.

Congrats. He should be the “best kickoff specialist in the league.” Only 2 NFL teams have one.
So in other words, he was better than Rhys Lloyd. Sweet.

Sir, for someone that's capable of being extremely sarcastic
You surely fail at detecting sarcasm in other people.
I have nothing to say regarding Buehler and the Cowboys attempt to give him the whole kicking thing, but that comment made me say something. BTW, I didn’t wanted to say best KickOff Kicker, felt that such a thing sounded redundant and made it specialist.
