Chris Russell of 106.7 The Fan in D.C. reports that, currently, no talks are occurring. The lack of progress, per Russell, comes from the uncertain status of Colts quarterback Peyton Manning and Patriots quarterback Tom Brady. Like McNabb, Manning and Brady have one year left on their contracts. Both Manning and Brady could be in line for deals that set a new bar for the quarterback market.
When we traded McNabb, it was his preferred destination out of the teams in trade talks. Did anyone honestly think he would extend with such an unsuccessful franchise? I don't know if its just me, but in my mind this was just easier on the family not having to possibly do a coast to coast move only to possibly be moving again. I didn't see anything enticing enough to convince me McNabb would want to be with the redskins beyond 2010.
We all knew we were going to see McNabb two times this year, but what if we see him beyond this season? Does this worry some of you? A new team, a new offense and new coaching schemes could all downplay his true capabilities, but what if he does extend ? This could be a very scary mistake we have made, or at least a lot scarier then we thought!
Manning and brady are in preparation to set the new price tag for a top tier quarter back, and as we all know the redskins have a history for throwing money around. I am really starting to worry or at least ponder that the possibility of having to face McNabb more than twice is very very likely. Granted they have players locked up in ludicrous contracts as of now they could obviously make moves to secure a solid quarter back which has been a tremendous need for the skins recently.
McNabb will not likely receive brady or manning type mulah, but the man will most likely receive a very handsome raise from his current salary. So what do you guys think? Do you think its possible were going to see McNabb a lot longer than we expected?
