Seven Eagles Make NFL.com's Top 200 Fantasy List
The NFL has released their rankings of the top 200 players in fantasy football this season. Seven Eagles made the list.
DeSean Jackson at #28
LeSean McCoy at #37
Brent Celek at #54
Jeremy Maclin at #75
Kevin Kolb at #79
Eagles defense/special teams at #142
Mike Bell at #165
Who do you think might be a reach or a steal? For me, Brent Celek could be a major sleeper in a lot of fantasy leagues this year. He's a guy who is sure to benefit from the change to Kolb at QB.

Workin late Jason…
I agree with you there, but I also think Kolb himself is going to have a much bigger year than people expect making him my “sleeper” pick.

Kolb in the 6th round will be awesome!
I think he’ll be really good, and give you 5 rounds to build your RBs and WRs.

Jeremy Maclin should definitely be considered a sleeper pick. He’s going to have a nice sophomore season.
Kolb could also be a decent starting QB, if he’s really as good as his first two starts.
RIP Jim Johnson, best ever.
You could call him a “mid-round sleeper” if you can get him in the 7th round but you think he’ll produce like a 3rd or 4th round guy.
Formerly Bye, Dawk :(
If he performs like 3/4 then he’s a definitely sleeper… but 7 is probably closer to his value (at least in my main league), I might make a move for him in 6 depending on how things are shaping up, but still wouldn’t label waiting for 7th to be a sleeper pick. Gotta figure 2/3 RBs, QB, 1 WR, TE / 2nd WR.. you’re at round 7 maybe 8. Once you get out of the top 5 WRs there’s a large group that are interchangeable, and most of them will still be there if you wanna wait and grab a few more pressing needs first.
Depends on how you define sleeper
I agree that he’s not necessarily a sleeper, but I still think he’s ranked a little low. I’d take Maclin over Hines Ward, Mike Wallace, Robert Meachem, Hakeem Nicks, Santana Moss, and Pierre Garcon. I’d even seriously contemplate taking him over Ochocinco, Crabtree, and Bowe, but that’s more of a stretch.
Getting Kolb as the 79 th pick in a standard 10 man league draft would be a huge steal.
I think even though he is the man back there that McCoy at 37 might be a bit of a reach. I worked up some of my own rankings that I will post as we get closer to training camp. We can dissect the shit out of them then.

Brent Celek is going to have a monster season. If you watch the tape against the Saints and Chiefs last year (Kolb’s 2 starts), you can clearly see that Kolb is constantly looking for him. In those 2 games Celek racked up 16 catches for 200+ yards.
They were drafted together, they’ve worked on the 2nd team offense together in practice for years, and they’re apparently very good friends. All those intangibles are nice, but the biggest reason Celek is going to have a bug season is because he’s a great player.

Coming off of 76/971 8TD, I don’t think Celek qualifies as a sleeper. Most consider him a tier 1 TE this year.
Agreed
Celek is ranked #4 among TE’s which is right where he should be. Knowing that, I don’t think you can consider him a sleeper.
agreed – If you’re taking a TE in the 1st 5 round he better be solid.

Kolb as a late 7th, Bell @ 165 is out of my draft (10x 16 rounds), McCoy in late 3rd = Sleeper
As for reach, I’m not sure I see one.. most are near the rounds that make sense for my draft, but with 160 picked my draft would also have kickers and Akers is usually one of the first taken.
McCoy isn’t a sleeper considering all the dual backfields the NFL has now, especially since there’s a realistic chance Mike Bell takes all the goal line carries.
Sleeper? Probably the Eagles Defense here.
Kolb probably could stand to be a round higher, but given the increasing number of good fantasy QBs, it’s just a judgement call.
Maclin also could outperform his ranking if teams double Jackson.
I can see what you say about McCoy, but late 4th for the #1 back in a tandem is a little late. For the Def, I don’t see many defenses taken outside of the last 2 rounds.. and after the end of last season, its difficult to wanna grab the Eagles any earlier to label them a sleeper.
Depends on the league settings really
People undervalue defenses because it’s traditional to do so. Therefore, defenses virtually always outperform their ADP; it’s just that they tend to be extremely unpredictable outside a couple teams (Jets this year I suspect will be pretty good though).
Even fantasy football “experts” argued during those years when Baltimore and Chicago defenses would go in Round 5 as to whether it was worth it.
McCoy is a big question mark. I like him, but last year really didn’t sell anyone. Some #2 backs could potentially outperform him at about the same pick number. e.g. Carolina
Also, what I said about dual backs means that lots of running backs have dropped in value.
The fantasy football landscape changed and consistent WRs now end up in Rd 1 versus always being in late Rd 2 eyars ago.
I don’t think anyone undervalues defenses, as much as some people over value them… Average points dont really matter as much as the opportunity cost/gain by picking them now or waiting. After the first couple.. the rest of the defenses tend to average out to about the same point (in most the leagues I’ve been in). If you’re not getting that top defense, then no sense reaching for the others as something comparable will still be around later… where as if you reach for one, you could be losing out on the last decent group of some other position.
My thoughts...
Jackson: the lowest I’d put him would be #28
Shady: A little too high. Maybe high 50’s low 60’s
Celek: In a PPR league, I honestly have a good feeling that he’ll be a top 10 player by the end of the year. He’s gonna have a monster season.
Maclin: About right
Kolb: About right
Eagles D/ST: Highest I’d put them.
Mike Bell: I think he’s gonna surprise alot of people. He’ll have about 550-600 yards and 4TD’s, so I don’t think he belongs in the 160’s.
Eagles D/ST: Highest I’d put them.
Agreed. In fact, anyone that doesn’t wait until their last 2 picks to take their defense and kicker is an idiot.
Formerly Bye, Dawk :(
Agree 100%. There are many times where what winds up best D and K were undrafted.

I'm having trouble pinning McCoy's value
I’ve seen him ranked 10-12 in some places, and ranked around 40 in others.
I don’t think it’s a stretch to expect roughly 1000 total yards and 5-7 TDs, which I would gladly take in round 3. In PPR leagues he could even have more value.
And I personally like the sleeper value of Maclin. I think he’ll have top 15 fantasy WR numbers (900 yards, 7-8 TDs), and of course I’m targeting him this year.

I'm targeting Maclin over DeSean for value
You’d really need to spend a 2nd round (maybe a 3rd) to get DeSean, and some people will call that worth it. I’m not sold. He’ll give you big plays, but will also have 2 catch games.
Maclin in the 6th is AWESOME, and will likely be a solid #2 WR in any format

Exactly my thoughts.

I'm targeting him in every league
I think he’s going to have a great year!

My very first thought was that Shady was too high.
I understand that RB’s are point machines, but the way we historically use RB’s should devalue McCoy. Westbrook was a fantasy stud sure, but he was a special player too. McCoy might be, but I’d drop him down some from that spot. I think Celek may be a sleeper. We have a young QB and a talented TE is a wonderful safety blanket. Celek should have a big year, so I’d definitely take him and run in the 5th. I think Desean could go higher and still be worth the pick. Same with Maclin. Kolb is probably ranked correctly given the unknown factor, but he could be a big steal for somebody easily.
the reason shady is where he is
most likely is due to the under appreciation for kolb … thinking we are going to rely on shady more this year i guess … i was puzzled at first too but thought this may play a factor …

I'm also surprised Shady is that high.
I think Leonard Weaver should be ahead of Mike Bell too.

I agree with catches
not sure about TDs…
I see Maclin sorta being a “go-to” guy while DeSean remains a big play machine.

Wouldn't surprise me at all
to see Celek lead the team in catches, receiving yards, and TDs this year.

Celek a sleeper this year?
No, last year i said this and took it to the bank. He’s rated top 5 everywhere. How can you call him a huge sleeper?
....When does football season start again???

I drafted Celek in the last round of every league (4) I was in last year
Haha talk about value. I only won 2 of them though :|
Im getting KOlb and celek for sure
Celek is gonna be a monster with Kolb playing QB. I guess i was great minds think alike because i felt celek to be the sleeper, with others grabbing at people like clark gates whitten
by Desean Da Man on Jul 2, 2010 12:33 AM EDT via mobile reply actions
but to be fair
Clark put up better numbers then most #2 WR’s did. (I have to defend this because I grabbed him in the 4th I think, lol)

Celek was a sleeper last year
I took Brent in the 7th or 8th round last year, and everyone in my fantasy league laughed at me for taking him…I told them to keep laughing all the way to my Championship!
