RB Charles Scott is the first draft pick to sign
Today the Philadelphia Eagles announced that they've agreed to a four year deal with their sixth round pick, RB Charles Scott from LSU. The 6-0 238lb power back is the first of the Eagles 13 draft picks to sign. He was taken with the 200th overall pick.
One down, twelve to go!
Oh and this is a great chance to repeat the best stat I heard about any Eagles draft pick... Charles Scott never fumbled in college.
[Note by JasonB, 06/02/10 9:08 AM EDT ] Fun tidbit and a possible nickname alert from the Eagles' press release
A three-time all-district honoree from Jonesboro-Hodge HS, Scott was tagged as the state’s Gatorade Player of the Year, in addition to being named Louisiana’s “Mr. Football” after rushing for 2,039 yards and adding 28 touchdowns as a senior.
"Mr Football?" I like it.
[Note by JasonB, 06/02/10 10:27 AM EDT ] Our pals over at National Football Post have the contract details.
The Philadelphia Eagles signed rookie running back Charles Scott to a four-year deal worth about $1.88 million, according to a league source. Scott received base salaries of $320,000, $405,000, $490,000 and $575,000. The former LSU standout's bonus was roughtly $90,000.

Maybe I am the only one but I was actually really excited about this pick. I think he could do really well in a tandem with McCoy…depending on where Bell fits into this all.

Wow
I wonder why he was signed so early. I don’t know any players from round 1-3 that have been signed yet.
Doesn’t bother me though, I see a lot of potential with this kid…really excited to see what he can do

He was a 6th rounder, a little easier to come to terms with a deal when outside the top rounds.
Yea, I’m really hoping he does well and is able to take some work off of McCoy.

Strange
After all this clamoring for a power back, the Eagles now have three RBs who are 225+. I have no idea what this means.
Waever
is not great at running the ball!

“Mr Football?” I like it.
Charles Scott never fumbled in college.
Now, I like that!
In life, as in a football game, the principle to follow is: Hit the line hard.
-Theodore Roosevelt
did you see his quote about hitting people?
It was something like “we’ll see who wants to play the most in the third quarter, are you tired of hitting me or am I tired of hitting you?” I LIKE THAT!
good way to be
I like him. The number one thing I want from my running back: DO NOT DROP THE BALL.
If you get -2 yards on a play, my first instinct is “It could be worse, could’ve been a fumble.” Fumbles by an RB is inexcusable.
And, like everyone else, I’m wondering how he fits in with McCoy and Bell.
2010-11 Predictions:
Kevin Kolb will go to the probowl and complete >65% of passes.
Jeremy Maclyn will have more receptions than Miles Austin & Steve Smith
Graham will have the starting LDE spot tied up by week 5, win ROTY, and have >10 Sacks
11-5 finish.

I dont think
they(eagles) know if he fits. I think they are hoping as much as we are, that he translates well into the pro game. I believe they think McCoy and Bell are expected to be our 1-2 punch and would not mind to see Scott beat either of them out.

I agree
I don’t think anyone knows how he fits. He sounds like a Best Player Available thing on their boards. They liked him, and they’ll see how he goes.
I don’t think bruiser backs are the style that matches the offense we’ve been running. Could this be a sign of an offensive philosophy shift?

Awesome!!!!!!
KOLB is a natural born leader - something the Eagles haven't had on offense in a long long time. Prediction, we win a SB in the next 3 years.
Chuck the Truck
is his real nickname. Don’t mess with that.

I'll miss Westbrook
I’ll definitely miss Westy, but would welcome a running back by committee approach as long as we run the ball more. We haven’t had that three head monster approach since the Duce/Westy/Buck years. This one has the potential to be more lethal if McCoy/Bell/Weaver can run the screen pass as well as those guys did. Plus, now, you have a fullback that carry the rock too.
Watching his youtube highlights Scott’s running style reminds me a bit of Duce. Hopefully he’ll be able solve our 3rd – n-short and goal line issues. I would love for this team to become a pound it down the throat run oriented team, but I think that’s just a pipe dream in the Andy Reid era. Offensive balance would be crucial with our deficiency in time of possession. Hopefully, I’m proven wrong and Andy will be forced to run more now without McNabb under center.
McNabb being gone
is the key. If ever there was a significant enough of an event that could change Andy’s philosophy, it happened when Donovan left.
I’m hoping and praying for power running.

stoked
I am so stoked about this guy. I hope he makes the roster. I want Eldra Buckley cut for Charles Scott when it comes down to the 53 man roster. He reminds me of Steven Jackson, With McCoy and Scott and Bell rotating in ahhh I can’t wait for the season!!!
Just Sayin..
Im not saying this only cuz hes a personal friend but he was an awsome pick for the Eagles. With his injury towards the end of the LSUs season last year it kinda put a damper on things for him in a lotta ways. He didnt get to go out the way he should of. I watched the drafts for him and ol Chad Jones from Thursday until he went on Sunday. Charles is gonna be bringin it this year! Ive missed watching him play. I couldnt be prouder to call him my friend!
