Jackson on McNabb trade

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/05/09/mcnabb-jacksons-comments-dont-make-him-a-bigger-man/

Desean please shut up . he has been running his  mouth alot lately , i know you had some sucess ,but please shut up.  Theres nothing wrong with having your teamates back but what was said did seem kinda like a shot at D-Mac . I have no idea what Kolb is gonna come in and do. i hope good, but on this situation the egg is gonna be on your face im pretty sure. dont start this diva ish somebody threw you that ball that guy was one of the best in this league for 10 years . to expect kolb to come in and do that right off rip is kinda stupid so please show some respect to the best eagle in our franchise history and shut the hell up.

Let Desean talk, as long as he can play...

I think McNabb’s comments about the young players were taken out of context, and I don’t believe Desean is taking “shots” at McNabb.

Desean is just supporting Kolb. I loved McNabb, but I have no problems with Desean deciding to move on.

When athletes talk, it doesn’t bother me as long as they back it up. It’s the off-season, so I don’t see the problems with his comments.

But when the season comes, he better produce.

calm it on down FLA

Some stuff can be taken out of context, I’m studying Journalism in college and have worked for newspapers in South Florida, it honestly happens all the time with Q & A’s. To add to his article, I was actually offended when he blamed the youth for losing games, a majority of the games were either his fault or poor clock and play management. I think the FO realized that the youth was the only thing worth showing because of the leaves of Kevin Curtis, Darren Howard, Donovan McNabb, and Brian Westbrook. Also the agent thing makes sense, he has said he’s not going to bitch, he may not want to press too hard for a contract but would like some endorsements…hello Drew! Also I think he said the right thing, they had additions to the team, the team has alot of chemistry between the youngsters as alot of them practiced with Kolb when they weren’t starting (Celek has said recently, Lesean was the number two for a good portion of last season, Maclin didn’t start till a quarter into the season, Winston and Nick Cole were back ups till last year). Good Stuff from D-Jax, and as much as I love Florio he tends to be pessimistic whenever someone makes a hiccup so don’t look too far into it.

its no big deal.

Firstly, Jackson is just supporting Kolb. Secondly, I would much rather have him say this than going around and complaining that McNabb isn’t there anymore.

by IwantVick on May 9, 2010 3:32 PM EDT reply actions

To read between the lines:
“I don’t think we lost anything, even with McNabb being gone,” Jackson said.

Read: Kolb was great last season filling in for McNabb, so I believe that we won’t have a drop off this season from losing McNabb. Kolb has the ability to fully replace McNabb and I’m happy to move on with him as my QB.

Jackson told Sporting News he was “very happy with the decision” by the Eagles to trade McNabb and make Kevin Kolb the starter.

A couple of players commented that they were happy that the Eagles made a decision on McNabb. Then they chose to support the Front Office by stating that it was time to move on. I don’t see DeSean’s comment as anything different than that.

Finally, to comment on your post. How are you any different than the normal “articles” on PFT? You decided to link to a summary of a Q & A with DeSean Jackson. You’ve commented on his comments even though you only read a very small spinet of the actual answers he gave to reporters. You’re acting like Mike Florio right now. Now it’s my turn to throw some snippets at you:

From http://bleacherreport.com/articles/389551-philadelphia-eagles-desean-jackson-kolb-and-i-will-be-spectacular

DeSean recently found himself on the cover of The Sporting News and when interviewed by SN’s Steve Greenberg, DeSean sounded extremely confident that he and Kolb will be nothing short of “spectacular” in 2010.

Greenberg asked Jackson, “What can Philadelphia fans expect from the Kolb-Jackson connection in coming seasons?”

Jackson, without hesitation, responded:

“It’s going to be spectacular. With his talent and hopefully my ability to get him the ball in stride and yards after the catch, those types of things—it will be pretty special. I look forward to being around him and both of us being with this team for a long time.”

Let me just throw this in. That last sentence in Jackson’s quote is a refreshing statement to me. From following DeSean’s Twitter page it was my opinion that once he hit the free agent market he would exit Philly.

I don’t have access to the actual article, but you can see where misquoting goes. It hurts everyone involved because you lose credibility when using misinformation and misquoting and it hurts the person you are talking about.

I agree, actually. I like DeSean, but he needs to take lessons from Celek on proper interview procedures: Talk without saying anything, we’re always a team and looking to win above everything else, and never make a comment about another player unless its positive. It sucks that our sports culture is like that, but if you say anything mildly controversial, you’re gonna get a black mark.

talk without saying anything?

I hate politics and people who are afraid to hurt someones feelings. If he thinks Kolb is better worse or whatever he should be able to say that.

I mean if he was like, " McNabb was the best QB this franchise ever had. The team is going to step it up to produce anything on offense". I would be fine with that too. Say what you mean and mean what you say. People are way too sensitive.

He “should” be able to, but we both know how well that goes over in today’s over-analyzed sports culture.

you're right it doesn't go over well but

don’t bend to conformity. If you do, they win and you become their pawn. dun dun dunnn.. But seriously, people with strong personalities shouldn’t be made to feel bad and bend to those with weaker personalities. This “PC” stuff is ridiculous. Could you imagine living in a surreal life where everyone only opened their mouth to exchange pleasantries and were more worried about other people than themselves? It sounds like a nice vacation spot but also sounds very boring and uneventful.

Well to be fair ...

… it’s getting over-analyzed either way. Look at McNabb trying to non-respond and even that’s getting broken down.

So they might as well be themselves.

Support.For.DeSean.and.Kolb

DeSean would have been out of line if he said, “McNabb wasn’t doing he job.” or “Kolb is going to have to grow into the position.”

He really didn’t stick his foot in it. I think the attention to his comments, and all the media looking to turn him into the next T.O. is the lame part.

If DJ wants to become the next T.O., he has a long, long way to go.

D.McN was a great QB. (Still is.) But now it’s time to move on.

by IggleGreen on May 9, 2010 9:37 PM EDT reply actions

unlikeable person?

IDC care if he glues 100$ bills to the pavement outside a homeless shelter!! He just has to play well on the field.

McNabb and anyone who finds this offensive can be filed away in the “way too sensitive” drawer. Seriously. He’s a young very talented player who happens to be very excited about his team and teammates. He didn’t say McNabb sux. Or he is gay. Or he has no touch. Or if he was playing with a good QB he would of broke all of the NFL records. This drama is for soap operas and chicks. Grow up life is way tougher than this weak shiz.

by MightyJoeBanner on May 9, 2010 9:40 PM EDT reply actions

I am of the torn group

I understand Jackson was just showing his confidence in Kolb. he should, I mean he would be like TO if he didn’t. “Aww man! Now i have to be thrown to by this bum”
I just wish he would of prefaced his comment with something like
" While McNabb did some great things with me, I don’t think we are going to lose anything with him gone." This shows a respect for McNabb but shows full confidence in Kolbs ability.
Also if he would of said something like.
“I am very happy with the decision to trade McNabb. It helps him and us.”
This shows he is glad McNabb could prosper else where but shows his excitement with working with Kolb.
This was one of 2 things. 1)A quote snipped to fulfill a writers want for controversy.

Jackson told Sporting News he was "very happy with the decision" by the Eagles to trade McNabb and make Kevin Kolb the starter

Notice how there is no beginning or end to the sentence. Movies do this all the time in their previews to to get what they want stated. The only quote they use benefits the direction they are trying to impose on the consumer.
2) A terrible job by his publicist who should be training him how to talk in an interview.
The refreshing part here is that if it was actually meant the way it was purported jackson is not gonna be one of those lame ass intervies that never say what they really want too. I actually like that. I hate when people constantly “say the right thing”. Sometimes the truth serves a better purpose.
In all actuality I just think he was quoted out of context and was just trying to rally behind his new and unproven QB.

That would've been better ...

…a nod to McNabb and then confidence in Kolb.

But you gotta remember we’re talking to a 23-year-old(?) who probably didn’t ace public speaking at Berkley.

He also doesn’t have the benefit of hindsight that we have, now seeing what kind of dustup it’s creating.

No FLAeagle you shut up!

Desean didnt do anything wrong and your assertion that he has “been running his mouth alot lately” is complete bullshit… and here is why:
(1) During OTA’s they like to interview him
(2) He’s the vocal leader of the offense

Furthermore I’d like to say he hasnt said anything bad at all and here’s a few examples:
(1) He’s been vocal in saying that he isnt going to make his contract and issue and that he’s willing to wait for that 30% rule to go bye bye… (this isnt bad)
(2) what he said about McNabb isnt bad, he was more giving Kolb a vote of confidence than ripping on Dmac.

So why dont you go educate yourself of what he’s been saying in context and why he’s been saying so much through the media before you start ripping on Philly’s shining star.

Shit my place is called LA Boxing...

It’s down here in FLA…

Professional Boxers teach us and everything, My dad wanted to do it to lose weight and well I’ve gotten really good at it so I’m doing private classes..

I’ve been doing boxing off and on for a few years, I’ve been going for 6 months or so straight now, I’m working on learning Kunfu right now, next will be Ju Jitsu and then I’ll do some wrestling…

My goal is to use my background of Football and boxing, then add on Kunfu, Ju Jitsu and wrestling and I’ll end up doing some MMA stuff.

Muay Thai Kickboxing. You want to learn that for striking. Good in close fighting technique that could translate well to MMA. I’d suggest Krav Maga but that is more about killing in close and well MMA frowns upon the whole killing thing. You combine Muay Thai with Ju Jitsu and do it well, that should give you a good basis for MMA.

Well my problem is that I'm a brutal human being... When I fight it's not pretty

because I send people to the hospital..

I’m looking to use Football and Wrestling for takedowns.
Kunfu for quick hits, knowlegeable hits and some good stand up fighting.
Ju Jitsu as a pick your poisen type of thing.
Then boxing to help build off of and for when I get backed into a corner and need to do some quick damage…

I’m thinking these all translate more to my style of things and well I’m looking to do MMA, and Boxing tourny’s just for fun.

Nice

How many fights have you had so far? Boxing is a different animal than jiu jitsu. Its a whole different type of cardio work. Like hitting the pads and sparing is WAY different than actually getting in the ring in front of a audience of strangers. I spared every day with Eric Hunter(he lost in the tie breaker for the Olympic box offs). I also sparred with Tito Vasquez(won nationals), Frankie Nunes and Dafir Smith(all decent pros). So I was pretty heavy in the game.

If your goal is to do MMA having great hands is a bonus. But being good on the ground is essential. I have only done about ten classes of jiu jitsu but I can tell you learning to roll is easier than boxing. But getting really good at rolling is not easy. Flexibility and strength are important but technique reins supreme. So its not a rarity at “Grapplers Quest” tourneys to see the lighter weights win the open class. The guy below is right about muay thai kick boxing. Muay Thai allows for more bumping and wrestling because of the knees and head control.

by MightyJoeBanner on May 11, 2010 10:14 AM EDT up reply actions

I havent really been to any

legal fights recently..

I’ve been in about 10 fights though using my boxing… I havent even started Jiu Jitsu yet and I realize it’s an amazing workout and stuff but I want to be very well rounded for when I get into fights that actually count worth something…

My goal is to do MMA, I most likely wont go pro considering i’m starting now when I’m 18… However I do have some quick hands in boxing and I know thats essential, and I know my standup game must be almost perfect considering most of these people I’ll face will be animals… And I want to do Jiu Jitsu so I can be able to roll, I’m not the most athletically gifted person so I make sure my technique is perfect, in boxing when I learn new combo’s I go home and will practice them for days until I get them perfectly…

I’ll look into that Muay Thai stuff, sound like something that would help me alot, However I’m paying alot for boxing and have to do another 300-500 for the Kun Fu…
