"There are times you feel sluggish after you have the surgery. I was at work three days after, but I wasn't having to run around and block somebody. There is a foreign object in your body, so he better be careful he's doing everything exactly right. I wish him the best. I know I feel great, and really, it's been nothing. Not a problem at all. I just never thought that it would be considered for anybody while they're playing."

Thats the one thing i worry about
How will the thing inside him react when hes taking hits during games and all that. May be a cause for concern

hopefully stacy andrews will be solid so we won't need to be concerned...
then again, i’m not going to put all my eggs in that basket.
You should never put all your eggs into one Baskett
Because then they’ll be fumbled away during the Super Bowl.

Andrews is a goddamn tragedy.
Wouldn’t put any eggs in that basket.
...But if he pulls the rug on his quarterback, Reid must do it knowing that he let McNabb down more than McNabb ever let him down.

It's pretty secure... My dad and mom both had this done a while back
and they tighten it to a certain degree to help get you to a weight you want.. The big problems more nutrition than anything, he needs to make sure he’s getting enough of what he needs to survive and play football.

From what I understand...and I understand very little...
its basically just a band around part of your stomach. I have a hard time seeing how that band is going to stay in place with jarring hit after jarring hit against 300lb linemen.
In Kolb we trust...
The band is fastened around the stomach.
It has to be solidly around the stomach or else general movement would jar it loose. If he got the okay to do this procedure then I’m fine with trusting the medical staff on whether or not it’s a feasible situation.

Yeah he'll be fine
Your abdomen is so packed with organs, there’s not a lot of room for movement when getting hit

My only concern is with his adjustment to his new weight.
Will it hurt or help? He may end up playing “small” because of this surgery.

Playing small is not now and will never be an option for big Max Jean-Size *cough* -Gilles
However, I fear he’ll lose muscle mass as a result of losing too much weight too quickly. That road-grading strength we always heard about? I wonder if that will suffer…
About 10 minutes ago, I was pondering my own existence. Then I decided that it didn't matter.
My Uncle had this surgery last year.
You notice the person getting much thinner, but its normally a healthy thinning based upon the exercise/weight lifting done by the patient. My Uncle simply did aerobic exercises and added onto the surgery weight loss, while also improving his body through said exercise. I can imagine that MJG will be replacing at least 10 pounds of fat with muscle. Shouldn’t be hard for a guy his size in the NFL to add 10 pounds of muscle (at least).

My dad had the gastric bypass or something like that
and had the lapband before that.. You eventually platau unless you exercise…
Me and him box so he’s losing a ton of weight but nutrition is the key thing.

Which is why I'm not worried about MJG.
He has too good of a support system from the Eagles to just lose weight and not gain muscle to replace it.

MJG
That fat slob has been working out in front of the refrigerator. A sad joke that has painfully gone on too long.

It's not very comforting
that one of the fattest coaches had the same surgery to LOSE weight and still looks like he sweats bacon. I love Rex and all but he gets winded getting out of his car and we’re supposed to think this will improve MJD’s problem? STOP EATING there problem solved.

Like I said above, my Uncle had this surgery two years ago.
After one year he had lost about 125-150 pounds. Two years later he’s lost nearly 215 pounds. Unlike MJG, he just wanted to lose weight, so his band was fastened to do just that – let him lose plenty of weight. MJG probably had it so that it slows his eating and allows him to lose between 40 and 70 pounds. On top of that he will have a trainer set him up with a lifting plan to gain muscle. We should see a “fit” MJG by the start of the season.
Don’t knock this surgery, it really does work.

I think he does due to our situation at Center and Right Guard..

Side Note:
I’m hoping McGlynn ends up as the center so we can move Nick Cole to RG… I think that’d be far better for our team considering Cole’s a better OG than Center and McGlynns a pretty big and athletic guy.
