I've waited patiently for a post by GreenInBaltimore saying it's on with the Ravens bloggers. And now I see Bye, Da -- er, JimmyK -- suggest a game vs. IgglesBlog.
I don't care if we play a bunch of disgruntled Habs fans using Canadian rules. (No punting on third down!) I'm just ready to get out there and play again, and this time not in 18-degree weather!
We probably should've brought this up a month ago (my apologies if you have and I missed it). Once Memorial Day hits, people are going to start going down the shore or otherwise filling up their weekend dates. (We're going to go to Home Depot. ... Maybe Bed, Bath, & Beyond, I don't know if we'll have enough time)
But let's toss around some ideas for when and where we could play again. And if you can't make it, don't sweat it, there'll probably be a BGN Bowl III.
We might as well use this fanpost to discuss potential meetups at training camp and/or The Linc, or any other way you feel like BGN should hold down its crown as best Iggles website on the internets. In fact, if we really want to get crazy, we should just set up BGN Bowl II in Lehigh. July 30? Aug. 7? You know you wanna go this year anyway.

Ugh, I want to come so bad...
but now I’ve gotta come up with an extra 15k for my college, what I chose to major in costs a shit ton more…(over 4 years though)…
Does anyone who’s done the whole college thing know how the student loans work?? I need to figure out if I can only take out “x” amount of money or if they only give you a certain set amount etc..
I’m the first one to go to college in my household so neither my parents or myself know this part.. Any help would be appreciated.

Yup.
You can get loans through the department of education its called Direct Loans, which is usually assigned through your college. When you sign up for it, you have to fill out a bunch of info online and sign an agreement. So like JasonB said, just go to your financial aid office and ask about Direct Loans( there’s two types of loans, subsidized and unsubsidized). You can also usually get loans through your bank too.

Since it’s government-backed, they just let you go on forbearance whenever you want … so I should be paid off by now, but I’m far from it.
They have the best interest rates though. Even if you get your loans elsewhere, see if you can consolidate with them later.

Aviation, I'm going to become a pilot, and learn the business side of the
aviation industry.. Then I’m going to take a few extra classes and double Major in Aviation and Business…

The Goal is to eventually own my own flying/small airline type of thing where I just take small groups places and stuff like that… But that’ll be figured out sometime in the future.

He’s got to be an officer to fly in the military anyway, so I think that is his plan. Some type of ROTC program or something like that. Besides he won’t really be wasting the money. If he joins the military like he plans to, they will pay back all his loans (don’t forget he is on a partial scholarship) and if as he gets older he decides he wants to use his aviation skills in the private sector, then that’s worth it to not owe a commitment to the military. Kids got a solid plan, just needs to follow it.

I cant do Marines and I suck at tests due to Learning Disabilities,
and cant get the test scores needed… So i’ll just go do that aviation, and then I’ll just go into the Military or go fly commercial planes.
Either way the military will help w/ debt and w/ all my scholarships I only need to pay for lab fees, board, food and a bit of my tuition so I’m hoping it wont be that much…

I’m in the Air Force and I was given the option of receiving the GI Bill to continue my education or receive $10,000 to pay off loans (which is taxed, so it’s really only around $7)
I think the best option would be to go to the Academy if possible. Either way, you have to test to go in as an officer and you would have to take the ASVAB to go in enlisted. You could join the military as enlisted and go to school while you’re in for free.
There are plenty of options.

i really didnt think they would offer to pay back your loans … but now that i see why its so they wont have to fork over more money towards someone who is participating in higher education already … most people pay for their gi bill and dont use it …

you pay $100 a month for 12 months and then you have the BIll, and you can upgrade the bill by something like $20,000 for another $600 – or something like that.
I have yet to use mine, but when I do it will be for something ridiculous – like culinary arts school or knitting classes.

I was in the Marines so im aware of the general things required to get where he wants to go, but im almost positive that if you decide to go to school on your own and then join the Marines they will not “reimburse” your tuition. Officer canidate programs can be signed up for which i believe are 8 year contracts. You are a reserve for 4 years while you attend and they pay for college and then you fulfill your 4 year active duty commitment. I could be wrong but im pretty sure

wow, you have a lot of things planned at such a young age
When I was 17 I didn’t know what to major in. So I gave myself 4 options (Law,Business, Medicine, Engineering). I did horrible in chem so I crossed off medicine. My brother and sister majored in law and business so I crossed off those two. So I was left with engineering. I didn’t decide the field of engineering I wanted to get into until my the end of my sophomore year.
LOL I just recently made my decision...
Plus there’s always some need for pilots.

Only take out a private loan in an emergency
Im not sure where you go, but in PA you can take out $5000 in federal loans your first year. For the additional costs you can take out a parent plus loan to cover the difference. If your parents don’t get approved for the loan you are allowed to take out an additional 7000 in federal loans.
I only need about 7-10k more a year.

As cold as it was for BGN BOWL I it was twice as fun hanging around with everyone playing some backyard football. It was like we had been doing it for years and you don’t really get that much places. I encourage all to make an effort to attend even if you don’t play.

Anyways….i am completely down for playing again. Its funny that we played on the coldest day of the year…and theres a decent chance that playing in late July or August could yield us the hottest day of the year. The irony!
Choosing a field in the summer time will be much more difficult than it was back for BGN Bowl I. We’ll be competing with summer camps and rec councils for field space.

I thought I was just mentioning it, not appointing myself CEO. Lol.
Okay, if you ask me, I say we should take advantage of the summer to do some eating/drinking/being merry in conjunction with the game. Afterwards, I guess, since playing on a full stomach is a recipe for disaster.
Depending on what JasonB thinks, I say let’s work off the Lehigh idea. If people are already coming in from afar, seems wise to hold a game/cookout then. We’ll have to figure out which day it is and what time allows, based on when the Eagles practice. And then look for a field closeby where we can set up a game and a grill. I’m guessing Lehigh would have liability issues and discourage us, in case we have another bdawk4ever situation (I’m still mad my camera lens was stuck for the thumbs up pic), but since we’ve done this once before, we could figure out the logistics.
Anybody know the area well? I might be able to get us on the fields at Moravian, but that’s across the river. I at least know a few people who have lived in town, so if we don’t have any great ideas, I’ll see what they think.

In all seriousness, I think that should be the leading idea. Depending on the date JasonB chooses and what he has up his sleeve with the Eagles, I donn’t see any reason why camp/game/cookout couldn’t happen and still leave people time to drive home to Staten, North Jersey, BMore or Southern Wherevertheheck Maryland, etc.

Cherokee High School… I grew up right around the corner from Cherokee and basically lived on those fields throughout my childhood.
Enormous school (acreage-wise), always well-maintained, and they never ever bother you if you’re using their fields (especially during the summer).

I was fine with FDR park for the reasons mentioned above, that it was easy access for everyone coming from far away. But guaranteeing a field, if you think they really won’t kick us off, is hard to beat.
