Football players don't get a free pass when it comes to PEDs.
Hall is a high-ranking rookie for Eagles | Philadelphia Daily News | 05/21/2010
"I get here Sunday night," Hall said. "I spend the week here. Thursday after practice, I'll fly back and [possibly] go straight in to work right then, Thursday night when I get there, and then work Friday and sometimes Saturday. Then fly back Sunday." "I'm just making sure that the jets every day are safe and ready to fly, so that our pilots can get their sorties, get their missions, to be prepared when they go over [to Afghanistan]."
Penn St.'s Shipley has chance to stick - mcall.com
Not long after A.Q. Shipley arrived, he knew he had made the right decision by signing with the Philadelphia Eagles. He also knew it had nothing to do with the uncertain state of their center position, which is why he chose them in the first place as a free agent last January.
Speed of pro game an adjustment for Birds' rookie QB Elliot - NJ.com
Elliott, who was signed as a free agent out of Purdue, said the West Coast offense's shorter dropbacks mean he has to pace himself out from under center. "The speed of the dropbacks is huge," he said. "In college the dropbacks are much faster. Here it's all about timing and then going through the progressions. You have to take your time."
Eagles new weight-watcher making progress - pressofAtlanticCity.com
Eagles OG Max Jean-Gilles has lost so much weight that he had to wrap tape around his waist to hold up his shorts during Wednesday's OTA workout. Jean-Gilles said that he has lost approximately 30 pounds since undergoing gastric lap band surgery three weeks ago.
Didinger: Versatile Harbor Won't Be Limited to Just TE
Watching Clay Harbor move around the field, you see the possibilities. Here is a fluid 6-foot-2, 250-pound athlete who can run a 4.6 40, broad jump 22 feet, do 30 reps on the 225-pound bench press and, oh yeah, he can catch the football.

if you read that...
…piece about chad hall, and you’re not at least rooting for him to make at least the practice squad his first year, you sir are a communist.
On the flip side, being stuck in steeler country (and penn state country) all I heard was how underrated shipley was. Strikes me as probably someone who couldn’t even make it on a team who couldn’t make an impact on a OL needy team like pittsburgh.
Sounds like a practice squad body to replace mclynn when he bumps up to actice.

"If I can get you to think twice, I'm in your head."

"Yeah, I like to hit people"
-Brandon Graham
It wasn't bypass surgery.
He had a weight controlling band placed around his stomach.

What he said. Very different things.
What you’re thinking of, is they put a giant band around the stomach so it simply cannot expand.
What he got, they put a ring around the upper part of the stomach, to prevent intake as fast, giving his body a chance to tell him he’s full.
I’m not saying its completely safe- but its not a major operation. He’ll be fine. (he’ll be fine iwth the surgery, I’m not convinced he’s a good player to begin with)

Naw, I actually wasn’t thinking that. My Uncle had this procedure done about two years ago and I know what it entails. However, posting a simple answer took a lot less time for me than anything else, so I went for it.

I might’ve been a bit early to totally write off Shipley, but I still think he’s a long shot to have a chance at starting. Fact is 6’0" IS too small to play center in the NFL, especially in the NFC East. Nick Cole is the incumbent starter, but McGlynn has a legitimate shot and I think he’s the guy that will be starting on opening day.
I am the people's troll :3™
hes a long shot to even make the team
at this point all articles about rookies are just flulff. The fact is like you said Cole is the starter and McGlynn has been in the league a few years and hes a bit older.
E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!!!
I dunno
The Eagles centers for the past 10 years have been found the same way Shipley was.

I think the NFL does a good job with PEDs
and keeping them swept under the rug.
The NFL and every other league is faced with a couple of problems
a) There’s ways to beat the test
b) There’s PROBABLY designer drugs out there that won’t show up in a test.
c) If a bunch of NFL players do start testing positve it will really start hurting the NFL’s image which is bad for business. (Although, steroids SAVED baseball once revenue went sky high after the steroid scandals started breaking)
So, I’m just theorizing here, for the most part, they are sweeping PEDs under the rug for now.
E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!!!
man, i hope they aren't sweeping anything under the rug...
hgh and ped’s have so badly tarnished the mlb and it’s legendary hitters (i.e. bonds, sosa, mcgwire, ramirez, giambi, rodriguez). i’d hate to see some list come out a few years from now with names of nfl players who tested positive for banned substances. it just takes away from the game.
Well
Steroids have been used in the olympics dating back to the 50s or 60s, a lot of football players have admitted steroid use since the 70s and stated other guys were doing it too. Ive been around A LOT of athles, power lifters, and to some degree body builders. I understand NFL players have some of the best genetics in the world, but I would bet a lot of money a LOT are on some sort of banned substance.
E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!!!
Which athlete caught usinng PEDs would cause the most uproar?
Brett Favre?
Peyton Manning?
Patrick Willis?
Demarcus Ware?
Brett Favre would definitely not cause an uproar. Tom Jackson would just say “That’s the thing about Brett Favre; he’s not afraid to gain an unfair advantage from steroids use. That’s one of the things I most admire about him.”
RIP Jim Johnson, best ever.
“he loves the game of football, and he was willing to sacrifice his body and his legacy for the sake of the team. Brett Favre is a warrior”
if brett favre were caught in 1997…
madden: now the thing about steroids is that it helps build muscle… and 90% of the game is half muscle. now brett favre likes muscle… and if my calculations are correct, favre would want more muscle… and steroids would do just that… build more muscle. so i think favre took steroids to get more muscle.
summerall: thanks john.
Willis and Ware wouldn’t be crazy news. You and I know how good they are as players, but the rest on the non-hardcore football fan world world wouldn’t stop what they’re doing to pay attention.
Payton Manning? Sure. I’d also say Tiger Woods, Derek Jerer, Lance Armstrong, Kobe Bryant, Lebron James, etc… Those names would cause the most commotion.

Jeters been suspected for awhile.
Peyton would surprise me. His game is based off of mental agility. Farve wouldn’t surprise me, though. Sorry, ironman or not, it wouldn’t surprise me. Willis, too. God he’s a beast.
Even on our team… I have my own suspicions about who could be, and who would be in a position to be desperate enough to take ’em

Peyton, Kobe, Woods, and Lebron don’t seem like players who would need to use PED’s. Brett Favre on the other hand is 40 year old QB coming who came back from shoulder injury and played well. If ESPN can spend 10 hours covering a report from a source that says Favre may or may not retire, imagine what it would be like if he was caught using PEDs.
Has anyone ever suspected McNabb? Sometimes he looks like a linebacker and he has the strongest arm in the league.
The player that would really crush me if I found out he was using PEDs would be Dawkins.
