WR for 2010
alright bored again at work. i ranked the Qbs last time and got what seemed like 100 responsed about wether tony "homo" is ok to use. Just for reference i have now switched to tony choko. well here are my WR rankings for the upcoming year. These are not fantasy rankings, as i take more than just the statistics into account. let me know what you think. at least it gives us something to talk about while we wait for ever for training camp to start.
1. Andre Johnson- the guy is just a stud. he's huge and has great hands. i think he makes matt schaub a probowler. I hate the fact he is from the U, but I can't deny he has passed Fitz as the best receiver.
2. Larry Fitzgerald- totally carried the Cardinals to the SB two years ago, and I'm forever stung by his NFC championship catch against us. even in a somewhat down year he had 97 catches. will make leinart's life much easier, but lets see if his stats hold up.
3. Brandon Marshall- If you take his attitude out of the equation, physically he dominates everyone DB (except maybe Revis). If you consider his dive-attitude, he drops down on this list. I'm not expecting amazing numbers with Henne throwing to him, although look what he did last year after missing the last game of the year (101 catches) and with Orton throwing to him. still can't believe he had 21 catches in one game against the Colts. He is simply amazing.
4. Calvin Johnson- Megatron will dominate as soon as Stafford fulfills his potential. The Lions offense could soon become explosive. Is a good blocker, the only thing holding him back has been all the injuries.
5. Reggie Wayne- Is definitely on the decline and has been helped with having Peyton throwing to him, but has made fans forget about how deadly Manning to Harrison was.
6. Randy Moss- didn't want to put him this high, but the guy can still dominate when he wants to. Again his diva attitude is the only thing stopping him from being a media superstar. Would be higher a few years ago.
7. Vincent Jackson- Quietly has become a star for San Diego. His height helps him out big time, and is the only thing ranking him higher then the next guy on this list.
8. DeSean Jackson- Probably the most explosive player in the league. I really don't have to say much about him as we all know how dynamic he is.
9. Miles Austin- If he produces this year like he did last year, he will probably move up. Still nees to dominate a little longer for me to feel totally comfortable.
10. Sidney Rice- Another giant receiver who finally reached his potential last year. Im curious to see how his numbers look when Farve retires.
11. Roddy White- Took a giant leap forward last year with 85 cathces for 1153 yards. Will be a lethal combination with Matt Ryan for years.
12. Wes Welker- I really hope he comes back healthy. I love watching Welker play. He is amazing, coming from being such a lowly draft pick. I remember him with Miami thinking one day he could be pretty good, never expected this great though. Always makes the tough catch.
13. Michael Crabtree- Some may think he is a little high on this list, but i think he will become the next randy moss. I totally expect this guy to dominate the league for the next 10 years.
14. Steve Smith NY- A very solid rookie year makes me nervous to think how long we'll have to match up with this guy.
15. Anquan Boldin- loved him from back in his days at FSU, can't wait to see what he'll do as the primary target for the Ravens.
16. Marques Colston- another giant receiver. i'm curious if his numbers would go up or down if he wan't one of many weapons on the Saints.
17. Greg Jennings- another combination (with Rogers) that will be dominat for years to come. i feel like he should be higher, but don't know who he would jump over.
18. Chad OchoCinco- Not sure what he's got left. I think this year he'll either put up huge numbers or won't do anything, don't think there's any in -between. Is always fun to watch though.
19. Santonio Holmes- former Super Bowl MVP looking to restarrt his career with the Jets.
20. Hines Ward- doesn't put up huge numbers, but i can't remember the last time he's dropped a ball. And everyone knows he is a devestating blocker.
21. Steve Smith (CAR.)- the original Desean Jackson. His numbers may go up now that Delhomme is gone.
22. Percy Harvin- Is similar to Westbrook and Ray Rice with his jukes and making people miss. Can make the tough catch and will only get better.
23. Dwayne Bowe- Its hard to not believe if he was in a better offens that Bowe wouldn't be higher up.
24. Jeremy Maclin- I know, I know Maclyn sucks... but seriously a lot of people think he will be better than desean, and that 's saying alot.
25. Sims-Walker- can't really say i saw this guy too often, but put up good numbers for a terrible passing offense.
26, Dez Bryant- with Crabtree, i think will be the two dominant forces for years in the NFL. Can't rank him higher though til he proves himself in this league.
27. Pierre Garcon- really made a name for himself at the end of the season and in the playoffs.
28. Hakeem Nicks- one of the many young and talented receivers on the ginats.
29. Kenny Britt- is an up and coming star in Tennessee.
30. Stave Breaston- finally gets to be #2 in AZ, but now he has leinert throwing to him instead of warner.
31. Lee Evans- I think he's a good receiver but who would ever know it playing on the Bills.
32. TO- I hate the guy, but i still think he's gotta a little left in the tank.
33. Donald Driver- Is one of the toughest players, forget receiver, in the league.
34. Braylon Edwars- has all the tools to dominate, if only he could learn to hold on to the ball.
35. Demariyus Thomas- Compared to Megatron, but i think he's like Braylon but with better hands.
36. Arrelious Benn- I think he will put up decent number for the Bucs in his first year.
37. TJ Houszyadaddy- basiclly just a posession receiver at this stage of his career, but has taken some solid hits going over the middle of the field.
38. Robert Meachem- plays on an amzing offense, but Meachem is the big-play guy.
39. Derrick Mason- is way old, but like hines he does all the little things to be great.
40.Jason Avant- Is sure handed, and I think his numbers will get better this year.
41. Michael Jenkins- never quite lived up to his potential, but not a bad #2
42. Eddie Royal- super fast, but seemed to tail off later in the year
43. Austin Collie- any WR who has peyton throwing to him will be good
44. Santana Moss- seems to only make big plays
45. Derrius Heyward -Bey- has potential
46. Jacoby Jones- speedster opposite Andre Johnson
47. Roy Williams- he really, really sucks and doesn''t know when to shutup, but has the physical tools to still be good.
48. Brandon Gibson- he had to make this list, will always have a soft spot for the ex-eagles
49. Julian Edelman- filled in nicely for welker last year.
50. Reggie Brown, j/k, Kevin Walter- never really had his coming out year yet.
so who did i forget? as i got further down the list, obviously i think a few guys could be moved up or down, but its tough to differentiate by one or two spots, who's better.

His tank is leaning towards 'E'.
He’s fallen downhill, as evidenced by last year, and he’s not getting any younger. 32 makes sense; he could even be ranked a little bit lower.

The guy is done.
He can no longer break loose when doubled. Always drops a bunch of passes. I wouldnt even put him on the list at this point.
dude
this list is ok .. but TO is wayyyy to low .. so i steve smith carolina and roddy white .. smith is better than desean jackson hands down .. and greg jennings is borderline top 10

No fucking way DHB is top 50.
Where is this hype coming from? And don’t give me this “well, wideouts take 3 years to develop” and “he had juhmark!” crap. He was beyond awful last year, and he’s got a lot yet left to prove. Davone Bess and Mario Manningham deserve top 50 mention loads more than DHB does.
I will keep throwing Louis Murphy out there when someone uses either argument. Until he proves otherwise, DHB is just some guy that runs really fast.
I like the list otherwise, but “Darrius Heyward-Bey” and “top 50 wide receiver” do not mix together right now. At all.

if DHB is top 50 I'm clearly top 10.

Austin Collie, Percy Harvin, Jeremy Maclin, Michael Crabtree, Mike Thomas, Hakeem Nicks, Johnny Knox, Kenny Britt, Mike Wallace, Julian Edelman, Brandon Gibson, Mohamed Massaquoi, Louis Murphy, Brian Hartline, Sammie Stroughter, Deon Butler.
16 wide receivers with more receptions than DHB. And those are just the rookies!
Give me an actual, believable, non-BS reason why I should consider DHB better than over half of these guys.

Potential
Come on, whatever happened to letting rookies develop. Some take a bit long than others, but if you can’t see the possible potential in DHB then I don’t know. He has all the physical tools, and just has to put it together. If you would take half of those guys you just listed over DHB then let’s just end this discussion now.
Bill Parcell once said something along the line of “potential means you haven’t done shit”.
RIP Jim Johnson, best ever.
What? That's dumb though
By that argument, you could rate Todd Pinkston ahead of Dez Bryant.
This isn't the 2012 WR ranking.
Things could change in two years, of course. But as of right now, on May 22, 2010, I would take about half of those aforementioned rookie wideouts over him. If he weren’t so fast, he’d be a worthless scrub.
And potential? Every rookie has potential. Some fall way short of it. And no matter how raw, there’s no excuse for just 9 catches for a 7th overall pick in a rookie season without major injury or suspension.

If Desean Jackson wasn't so fast, he'd be worthless
So I don’t know what you wanted to say with that. Maybe if we were playing a game today you could make that case, but if I’m a GM and building a team, I’d take DHB over more than half of those guys without a question.
I agree, I think he's got more potential than at least some of the guys I mentioned.
But that’s beside my point. In what world is a rookie who proves to be somewhat reliable and catches 40 passes worth less than a rookie who catches 9 passes, but runs really really fast?
I’m arguing about right now. Someone prefers DHB over, say, Louis Murphy, based on what he could do in two years? Fine. But I’m just going to point to the numbers and the situation he was in and just note that in the same situation with the same QBs, Louis did better. Right now, I’d take the guy who’s already began to show what he can do, not someone who lights up stopwatches but has done squat on the field.
That’s why DHB falls behind a lot of those rookies I mentioned in the 2010 rookie ratings.

Nice read
Just one thing I thought could change…Greg Jennings should be moved into the top 5. But for the most part you did a good job. Move to this time next year and you could see Desean Jackson into the top 5. Kolb will have a 1000+ passing yards to DJax. Do not think for one second we will throw the ball any less then last year. Look for Kolb to have 4000+ yards in the air.
by STRAIGHTOYOURFACE on May 21, 2010 3:24 PM EDT reply actions
Really?
Greg Jennings into the top 5? I know he’s good, but don’t tell me he’s going to be better than Andre Johnson, Larry Fitz, Calvin Johnson, Brandon Marshall, Randy Moss(right now), Desean Jackson, Vincent Jackson…The only thing going for him is an all-pro quarterback in Rodgers, who is still getting better, but I disagree with moving Greg Jennings into the top 5. Top 10 would be more reasonable if you really wanted him higher.
If I'm goin' to hell, you're coming with me...

Greg is right were he should be. the 17ish area

WR 81 Johnson, Calvin ACT REC 67 YDS 984 AVG 14.7 TDS 5 DET

are you serious?
you know a WR has to catch the ball from his QB right? Jennings plays with an excellent QB in Rodgers..Megatron with a rookie in Stafford. Jennings has always had a good QB in his career…Johnson, not.
I dunno how anyone could go off stats alone and knock Calvin Johnson. Dude is one of the best athletes in the league..and is 6"5 240lbs..and is not a purse toting pussy like many other WR’s either.
Just keep winning

I Agree 100%
If C.J. was catching balls from A. Rodgers he probaly gives Andre Johnson a run on total yards and receptions.
by STRAIGHTOYOURFACE on May 22, 2010 9:31 AM EDT up reply actions
Couple of thoughts:
(1) Calvin Johnson Jr. is better than Brandon Marshall. There is no question that he is a more complete and dominant player. Couple that with Marshall’s hip problems and I think it’s not even close.
(2) Randy Moss in front of Vincent Jackson and DeSean Jackson? VJ was considered the most consistent deep threat last year and DJax is one of the most explosive players in the NFL. All the while, Moss is on the downside of his career. While still a good WR, he’s not better than the Jacksons.
(3) DHB should not be in the top 75 WRs, let alone the top 50.
(4) Dez Bryant in front of TO is crazy, no matter my dislike for TO.

WR Marshall, Brandon ACT REC 101 YDS 1,120 AVG 11.1 TDS 10 MIA
If he had a bad hip last year I dont see how it slowed him down. Catching a record 21 receptions in a game puts him close to the top of this list.
Andre Johnson leading the league in concecutive years in total yards puts him on the top of this list.
by STRAIGHTOYOURFACE on May 21, 2010 10:16 PM EDT up reply actions
I didn’t argue with Andre being #1. Andre is #1. However, Marshall has had surgeries on both hips now in the last two years. No one knows how he is going to respond next year. On the other hand, you have Calvin Johnson Jr. who was the only good player on the Lions for a couple of seasons. Think of him as the WR version of Barry Sanders. I can’t, in good conscience, put Marshall in front of him.

A few disagreements
1) I love the DeSean, but the kid is not a top 10 receiver after just one pro bowl season. If he keeps this pace going over the next 2-3 years then yes. But not just one year.
2) Fitz didn’t carry the Cards to the playoffs. There was a guy named Anquan Boldin there too. Fitz had more of the highlights and got all the ESPN coverage, but Q and Warner were on that team too.
3) Michael Crabtree above Anquan Boldin, Marques Colston, Hines Ward, and Greg Jennings, Chad Ochocinco, and Santonio Holmes? I’m all for potential, but production speaks louder. Matt Leinart had all the potential in the world to become the next Peyton Manning, but he hasn’t.
4) TJ Houshmandzadeh, Donald Driver, Lee Evans, and Steve Breaston should be higher.
5) Steve Smith of NY, last year wasn’t his rookie year. It was his 3rd year matter of fact.
6) Steve Smith of Car should be higher. He played with an unstable QB position and with injuries.
That’s all I got so far.
Boldin Lower
Living in AZ, I follow the Cardinals almost by osmosis. Boldin has been falling off, mainly due to injuries, the past few years. His hammys are like piano wire and his ankles have more chips that a Tollhouse cookie. I see him as a major bust for the Ravens this year.
It's "Kolb"ering time!
Kinda think you gotta have both Steve Smith's higher
Crabtree ain’t shit yet, he’s a 2nd year pro who was good in his rook year, but countless players are prone to soph slumps, even dudes as talented as him (and especially those with Alex Smith as their QB)
ANd the other Steve Smith should probably be ahead of #12.
And well…maybe you don’t follow the Giants, but 2009 was #12’s 3rd year in the NFL
Just keep winning
Crabtree ain’t shit yet
While I agree a little I was impressed with his 625 yards in 11 games, had he not held out he would have been close to 1,000 yards. My point is if the kid can hold out miss practices and still come in as a rookie and produce his chance of a sophomore slump has to be less right?
They call me The Professor.
well yea
that’s great and all…but he’s in the top 15. That’s my point. Sure, I think he’s got top 10, maybe top 5 potential (especially since he’s going to an offense much like the Texas Tech one).
But you don’t get into the top 15, especially in a position that’s as deep as WR is in the NFL..off of your rookie season.
He’s probably the best rookie WR (I’d go Crabtree, Harvin, Nicks, Maclin), but he’s still only one year in the league.
Ranking someone based on their potential…I dunno how you can do that. That’s the whole point of “potential”.
You aren’t that yet, but you could be. Currently, Crabtree is NOT the 13th best WR in the league. He may be that by the end of this season…he might not.
by FreeBradshaw on May 24, 2010 4:15 PM EDT up reply actions
Currently, Crabtree is NOT the 13th best WR in the league
I absolutely agree I was just pointing out his stats because I think a lot of people over look what he did because the numbers are low if you don’t consider the outside factors.
Honestly I don’t like Crabtree but you can’t argue with talent, I’m hoping for a slump maybe it will humble him.
btw I’d go Crabtree, Nicks, Harvin, Maclin … Nicks and Harvin had the same amount of yards only Nicks did it on 16 less targets and 13 less receptions. Higher average, and more YAC (surprisingly).
I was very impressed with Nicks last year I thought he was a reach and he proved me very wrong. Either way seeing who emerges as the best this year out of those 4 is going to be fun.
They call me The Professor.
Guess I didn't wanna get called a homer...
but yea, Nicks every bit the WR he was at UNC, which was a YAC monster. He was also hurt in the beginning and end of the year too, so he didn’t exactly have a full season (tho I know Maclin, Crabtree and I think Harvin had the same thing of course).
Well, I guess if I wanna get called a homer…I think Nicks will have a better career then Crabtree. Him and Crabtree are basically identical, except in college Nicks played in a pro style offense that had 3 other WR that are at least close to pro-caliber.
When you look at Nicks play and Crabtree play, the physical attributes..they look exactly the same.
And of course Nicks has Eli Manning throwing the ball, and Crabtree has Alex Smith..at least for now.
