Donovan McNabb traded to Redskins
It's the moment we've been waiting for all offseason... The Eagles have traded Donovan McNabb, but they've done so to a team that pretty much no one saw coming. The division rival Washington Redskins. That mean Donovan McNabb will be back as an opponent twice year for the forseeable future.
Wow.
The Eagles will receive the Redskins' second round pick this year(37th overall) and a 3rd or 4th round pick next year depending on certain conditions. Sal Pal is reporting that the picks are contingent on McNabb's play
Pretty amazing stuff. Obviously let's just discuss our reactions. I think we all knew McNabb was gone, but how do you feel about seeing him twice a year?
I guess my first reaction is that it doesn't seem like the Eagles brass thinks too much of McNabb at this point to risk dealing him to a division rival. Either way, that first game back in Philly is going to be EPIC!
Interesting to see this done on a Sunday where baseball season is about to get underway... because the Eagles just blew the Phillies' coverage out of the water for the next several weeks... Makes you wonder.

its a 3rd and 4th

yeah pretty sure 3rd OR 4th..
should have been a conditional all the way up to a first if they make it to the superbowl…
I'm late to the convo
But I heard a 2nd this year.. plus a 3/4 conditional next year.
We got our 2nd rounder, and the 3/4 was some extra last minute icing courtesy of Shanahan.
Because a 2nd 3rd and 4th from a terrible team (even with mcnabb) is a pretty sweet offer

Couldn't we have gotten Jason Campbell instead?
Because this trade looks like a disaster and it’s barely been five minutes.

Yeah. Great. Seeing him twice a year, with a chip on his shoulder.
FO: Hey, we love you McNabb!
McNabb: Awesome!
McNabb traded to Redkins
FO: He sucks so much we don’t mind seeing him 2x a year!
McNabb: WTF?!
RIP Jim Johnson, best ever.
Hey, look, my sig isn't overly big!
They obviously don't seem threatened
If they were, and thought he was still a high caliber QB, they wouldn’t of traded him.

You mean BAD karma kills.
And what could be worse karma than this? I have lost faith and regained faith and lost faith in Donovan over and over again over the last 11 years. But one thing is for sure: he was committed to our team and our city no matter how much abuse he took. It may not have been good enough but he gave us his best. I get dealing him…but we deal away Donnie’s good karma and keep a dog killer/sociopath and a head coach who refuses to take a sabbatical when his family is falling apart? As always, there are things going on behind the scenes that I probably don’t know…none of us do…but it seems to me that the Birds just increased their bad karma quotient by 10 fold. If there comes a moment when Shanahan and McNabb are facing Reid and Vick i will be at a loss.

santana moss? larry johnson? clinton portis? and their young TE (forget his name) killed us this year.
Of course the Skins will beat us
I watched them beat us two seasons ago at FedEx field when we were on our way to the NFC Championship game (to lose to the Cards). It was CLASSIC Reid/McNabb-era Eagles: we lost to a piss-poor team not because of “any given Sunday”, not because the Skins played a phenomenal game, but because the Eagles just didn’t care. It happened against the Raiders last season. Championship teams are led by great men, and they play every game to win. The Saints. The Pats. The Broncos when they won two in a row. The Steelers and Cowboys in the 70s.

Someone please tell me that we traded Reid for Shanahan too
I'm fucking furious.
two 2nd round picks lower would have kept him out of the division. (Raiders).
Our crappy LBs and secondary are going to get annihilated by McNabb to Cooley.
Reid, Banner, Roseman, I hope you all get fired when this goes badly.
They got a lot for 5. We also now have 5 of the first 82 picks I think.
I don’t think anyone really want to admit this, but we are going through a mini rebuilding year or two.

We now have 4 of the first 82 and 5 of the first 87:
1st – 24
2nd – 37, 55
3rd – 70, 87

mini rebuilding
Lots of youth w/ talent, and a decent draft record as of late. I do wanna see where this leads in a few years, but I’m not looking for to the potential of being last in the division next year. Trading McNabb to the DC may make us next year’s skins, hopefully we get rebuilt fast.
Fletcher is too old
One injury and his career is over….too old to overcome something serious. Eagles continuing their youth movement!! This move should not be evaluated until 2-3 years have passed, not week 6 of the 2010 season.

It's about the compensation I had in mind...
And to be perfectly honest, I’m really not afraid to face him twice per season. Seriously… I’m not.
We now have 11 picks to go along with perhaps the youngest team in the NFL, which also happens to be very talented.
We may see some growing pains in 2010, but this team is now set up with an outstanding young nucleus in place for the next 5-7 years.
I’m happy with the result here.

Wilborn won't - he has always loved McNabb and he doesn't care about the Deadskins anyway
my impression of deadskin fans from living in Virginia most of my life is that they will be excited for a game or two and when the team still stinks due to a lousy O-Line and their collection of broken down running backs they will go back to not caring about the deadskins until they start winning. The deadskin fans are total bandwagon jumpers and will jump when the team still stinks. Honestly, I think that Daniel Snyder’s main motivation for this trade is to be able to sell a lot of jerseys not for competitive purposes. That is why the deadskins are a total joke. Granted as an Eagles fan, I am happy that the Deadskins are a total joke, but I would have felt better seeing McNabb go to the Raiders – at least the Raiders have some young talent and try hard. That won’t be the case with the Deadskins as long as Daniel Snyder owns that team – unless you’re a Eagles, Cowboys, or Giants fan he’s the worst owner in the league.
i dont think there is any question the compensation is good
but to a division rival? who does that? I like that Don is happy but this is dumb. He’s getting killed behind that oline.
Don’t think for a second that the Eagles cared where Donovan wanted to go… They took the best deal, period.

You go into each year ready to win the MFing SuperBowl. We have 3 game QB Kolb at the reigns, Vick as a #2, and i guess we are assuming that we can grab starting talent in the draft. I would love statistics on how many guys drafted each year become starters. Looks like for the Eagles its going to have to be all 10 to fill our gaping holes. Looks like we are back to watching the playoffs, rather than competing. Thanks for the wins DNabb. Winning seasons in Philly I guess were too good to be true for this long.
Our FO has some cajones!
It sounds like we’re getting a nice haul for McNabb. This will intensify a rivalry. Lot of good stuff here to like. Kolb gets extended prior to the draft. Our mock draft is effed.

confused. I believed more than anyone that this was a necessary business move. Is it weird I am more hung up that it was for their 2nd and next years 3 or 4. Instead of for two draft picks THIS year. And not that it was to a division rival?
Ultimately at worst its four losses for two draft picks. Depending on IF we get swept by the skins two years in a row. I dont think that happens. I guess the trade cant be totally evaluated until we draft.

No, They're not.
From a Boys fan, you guys might get lit up by an angry McNabb once or twice, but this was a good deal long term and great timing in this draft. I don’t look forward to playing you as much IF Kolb can develp his pocket awareness and you nail this draft.
I have noticed a new resurgence in Cowboy hating in 2007, which can only mean one thing- We're back.
both teams better
as a Boys fan, I think both teams just got better. McNabb is an upgrade over Campbell, especially for the short term. Kolb may well be an upgrade over McNabb, especially for the long term, and the Eagles are in great position to improve themselves in the draft, packaging picks to move up and take the players they really want to target. Now we have to play McNabb and Kolb twice a year. Boys and Giants may be the losers in this one lol.
Redskins have a LOT of problems….this may only fix one of them (and it might not even fix that one). DC metro area is awful is get around in, players get disgruntled….start just worrying about their paychecks. It has been that way for almost 20 years.

We have to trust the FO
They’ve done well in the draft the past couple of years and they have had a really good job getting talent in the later rounds (think Steward Bradley, Trent Cole, DeSean Jackson, Brent Celek).
Kolb might soon join that list and hopefully this upcoming draft will be just as productive for us

now we all gotta actually worry about the Redskins.
Who the hell thought giving Shanahan, Donovan McNabb was a good idea?
If McNabb was that great, he’d be on the news holding up a fat extension contract. Analysts said it was stupid for the Eagles to let go of Corey Simon, Troy Vincent, Duce Staley, Bobby Taylor, etc. You can’t be a successful NFL FO without carrying around big onions.

The team will have a first year starter leading a very young offense and a defense that is largely an unknown in terms of talent. and
the Eagles swept you and we swept the Eagles, what is your point? We swept the regular season against you once recently, I am sure you won’t hesitate to remind me how that one worked out in the end.
I think the talent gap is pretty close
Everyone’s pretty much given up on the Giants, just like they gave up on the Eagles 2 years ago and the Cowboys last year. The Giants defense was god-awful last year, but a large part of that was injuries and having a terrible defensive coordinator. They picked up Rolle, who’s definitely not the best safety in the NFL but should stabilize the worst safety tandem I’ve ever seen in all my years watching football, and just hiring a new DC should improve the defense a bit. I’m obviously a homer, but the Giants still have a lot of talent, and with a decent draft should be right back in the thick of it next year.
As for this trade: gotta say I’m happy. I think Kolb’s gonna be a bust, and Eagles fans are gonna regret how much crap they’ve piled on Donovan over the years. After Brady and Manning, no QB has been better over the past decade, and now they get to see what it’s like to live with an average or worse QB.

And a big problem was injuries for the Giants.
The cowboy’s should be the favorites, but I don’t see them winning the division again.

When there's a WILL there's a WAY
They're favorites
but not by as much as most people think.

When there's a WILL there's a WAY
essentially we can get into the first twice with relative ease
kyle wilson and sean weatherspoon? and patrick robinson?
i hope to god we get berry with one of those pics

Oh god, me too
The Eagles WILL redeem themselves in the '10-'11 season, with a win at SuperBowl 45 in Dallas!
Will 2 seconds be enough to trade up into the top 5?
‘Cause that’s where Berry probably goes.

Does anyone here think there's enough ammo to perhaps take a stab at Eric Berry?
Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!
Like, our first and a third?

maybe our first and a second.
I think we have a cushion to move up now.

I'd give up our #24 and our late second rounder.
Thanks to the new #37 pick :)

we would have enough ammo..
but we will have to give up a lot.. the jets gave up a decent amount to move up last year to pick up a sanchez, i believe swapping firsts along with their second and a few players as well.
Dear Eagles Front Office
I don’t want you guys to take this the wrong way, but…
Joe Banner is an awful piece of shit.
Howie Roseman is a pantywaist bitch ass beancounter.
Andy Reid is morbidly obese. And shitty at coaching.
Boston Jeff—fuck you, sir. Thanks in advance for the 5-11 season.
...But if he pulls the rug on his quarterback, Reid must do it knowing that he let McNabb down more than McNabb ever let him down.

Our bitch-ass owner.

An extraordinarily lengthy ad hominem attack on Reid is coming soon.

But only mine will feature MANY lengthy and highly personal attacks on his weight.

They got a good haul for McNabb – very ballsy move

C,mon EB
we are actually in better shape now as far as our OWN team is concerned. I know you hate Kolb but hes a better fit the WCO as it is based on SHORT intermediate roues….and now we have draft ammo to take care of ALOT of our holes AND our BIG problem last year was injuries cuz of old age…now we are young again…its like we found the fountain of youth AND talent
