Re-evaluated Team Needs NFC East: Cowboys
Unfortunately, the Dallas Cowboys franchise seems to be on the upside since winning not only their first playoff win sine 1990's, but knocking out the Eagles from the playoffs before getting crushed by the Vikings. As much as we think were better than them, we were 0-3 vs them this year.
A week ago, the Cowboys released to big named and highly paid players. FS Ken Hamlin and LT Flozell Adams. The move is a surprising one; while Adams is highly paid, old, and not as productive, this leaves the Cowboys short handed at their already weak offensive line. If the Cowboys are to compete in the difficult NFC East, they will need to block super-star defensive linemen like Trent Cole, Albert Haynesworth, and Justin Tuck. Likewise with their secondary, then are now even weaker against the pass and the Fat Man in Philidelphia will pass 95% of the time. The secondary will surely be tested by DeSean Jackson, Santana Moss, Jeremy Maclin, and Steve Smith(12).
Team Needs (In Order):
LT
DB
WR
OG
OL Hole: Their Offensive Line right now is D.Free, K.Kosier, A. Gurode, L. Davis, M. Colombo. While Gurode is a excellent C , the rest of their OL is quiet old and overrated. Their average age is 30.2 years old, Free being the youngest at 26 years of age. Romo needs a solid group to continue his success and he doesn't have that right now. As I recall, Doug Free was DOMINATED by Jared Allen, and I think Trent Cole and Justin Tuck can do the same. They need to completely re-tool their offensive line.
DB Hole:With Ken Hamlin gone, Gerald Sensabaugh playing average, and Terrance Newman in decline, the Cowboys need serious help in the secondary. Mike Jenkins turned it around and became a good corner in the league and have another young corner named Orlando Scandrick, who was competing with Jenkins at the other corner spot last off-season. Still, then need to re-enforce their secondary to be able to beat passing teams like the Eagles.
WR Hole:The "TO void" has been filled with up and coming star Miles Austin. He is a legitimate threat and their number one option. On the other side, you have Roy Williams. A horrible trade from the Lions leave questions opposite to Austin. The need isn't as big as last year, but it needs to be improved.
Mock Draft
Round 1 (27): Taylor Mays S, USC: The S starts immediately and helps strengthen their secondary against passing attacks.
Round 2 (59):Charles Brown T, Southern Cal: Brown is a converted tight end that has played on the offensive line for four years at Southern California. Although very athletic, He is inconsistent in finishing blocks.
Round 3 (90): Jordan Shipley WR, Texas: Although being a little slow, Shipley is explosive off the line and runs extremely crisp routes that allow him to separate from defenders with a good short burst. Primarily a slot guy.
Round 4 (125): Chris Cook CB, Virgina: Also a little slow, lacks great burst and pure speed to play out on an island in man coverage but is versatile enough to be effective as a rolled up defender or move inside to the safety position. Also is solid in run support.
Round 6 (196): Mitch Petrus G, Arkansas: Will provide solid depth and will be groomed to play G for years to come. He is still learning the position but shows enough raw talent and athleticism to make you think he has a chance to be a quality starter.
Round 7 (234): Jeff Byers C, Southern Cal: Plays both G and C, so like a Nick Cole. He is a tough, try-hard type of blocker who will fight and scratch to try and get the job done but not efficient with his footwork and will take too many steps pulling.

The mock draft makes them tougher
But is a little unreasonable. Shipley in the 3rd? I would consider that a serious reach.
Taylor Mays in the 1st? I would welcome that, can you imagine what Jackson would do to him? That would make the Santana Moss plays against Roy Williams look close.
The rest of the draft, with the high focus on O line man, would definetely make them tougher, but then again, it’s not like their O line was terrible last year. I would call them middle of the pack, with 34 sacks allowed.
Also calling Newman declining is a bit of a stretch. He had arguably his best year. yes his Int’s were down, but I’d say a big part of that was teams not throwing his way and testing Jenkins more. He still had 18 Passes defensed, which is a decent number.he is a older now, 31, but should still be pretty good for them for the next 3 years.
In conclusion, fuck the cowboys no matter what they do. They better not rest on their laurels, cause the Eagles are coming for some payback.

From a cowboys fan
this isn’t awful. A couple of points of disagreement.
1. Free wasn’t dominated by Allen. He played him pretty well actually. COlumbo was abused by edwards all game long. Free played like a legitimate starter last year, although that was at RT – LT is a definite question mark.
2. Our cbs are still VERY GOOD. Look at any legitimate passing statistics for last year and you’ll see our top 3 were all very good in ypa, completion percentage, etc. I mean really good.
Other than that I think you’re pretty accurate. We really need youth on the OL, although the starting level talent is not as bad as you say – Leonard Davis can still dominate. Columbo is a question mark. And we have an obvious need at safety I think, although it depends how much confidence the staff has in Alan Ball and Mike Hamlin.
DE isn’t a need on paper, but Spears is unlikely to be with the team next year.
Finally, this isn’t a draft need, but we need our young lbers to progress – guys like jason williams and victor butler. If they do, our lb core will be much better – admittedly, we got very lucky staying healthy last year.
