So the draft is over and there were some good and bad picks .. heres how i grade them

#13 Brandon Graham DE Michigan - Not a huge fan of this pick.. he is too small and has small arms .. will be a solid DE in the NFL but never special .. can be a solid starter for years so its not a bad pick .. just would of liked to see JPP or Derek morgan instead .. But it wasnt earl thomas so that alone makes this pick better .. what a bust Thomas will be .. cant tackle .. will get beat all day because he jumps routes .. basically hes asante at saftey ..

Grade- B-

#37 Nate Allen S USF - Love this pick!!! this is by far our best pick .. we needed a saftey bad .. and we got the best one not named berry.. Allen will start imedietly and is a huge upgrade since we were playing the worst saftey in the NFL in Macho harris ..

Grade- A+

#86 Daniel Te'o-Nesheim DE Washington - The only pick worse than this one was Tim Teabow .. wow .. what a reach .. maybe the biggest one the eagles have ever made .. this guy was rated as 6th round to undrafted .. he went to fuckin washington .. thats not a football college!! His combine numbers arent bad .. but hes not a good player .. he wont translate to the nfl .. his only hope is catching on as a rotation DT who can rush the passer .. he may be a third round pick but hes 6th round talent and will have to beat out DIxon for a roster spot ..

Grade- F-

#105 Trevard Lindley CB Kentucky - Not a bad pick .. we needed to get a corner .. all the good ones where gone by this point .. he was rated as 2nd round talent last year .. good size and said to be the best press cover in the whole draft .. should be able to make this roster over guys like patterson and pope .. could be a good nickle back or third corner

Grade - B

#121 Keenan Clayton LB Oklahoma - Another slight reach .. he wasnt rated this high .. he isnt that athletic .. and he has adequate size .. could be a good special teams guy and we did have 13 picks .. dont hate this nearly as much as Te'o but still a reach and one we didnt need to take

Grade - D

#122 Mike Kafka QB Northwestern - We needed to get a third qb in this draft .. i would of went with someone like tony pike or jonathan crompton.. doesnt have the big arm but has good enough arm strength to run our offense .. developmental guy who wont have to play for atleast 3 years .. decent pick

Grade C+

#125 Clay Harbor TE Missouri State - Not a bad pick .. i didnt know much about him but this guy is an athletic freak .. could be an H back in NFL similar to chris cooley .. not a good blocker but another weapon in the passing game .. decent value here and was worth the gamble .. wil make this team over Rucker

Grade B-

#135 Ricky Sapp DE Clemson - Hello steal of the draft! Sapp is a superior athlete who should of went as high as round 2 .. slipped beacuse of injury concerns .. athletic enough to be a SAM LB and will fill a major need for the Eagles .. LOVE LOVE LOVE this pick ..

Grade - A++

#159 Riley Cooper WR Florida - Not a bad pick here- Has great size and decent speed .. is very athletic .. should be a solid 4th wr and eventually replace Avant as the third here .. good value here .. ironically this guy was drafted by the Phillies as well .. The only knock on this guy is hes a white WR .. but hes not being asked to start .. as a Third or 4th WR i like him a lot

Grade- B+

#200 Charles Scott RB LSU - Another very good pick .. although i wanted Dwyer or Blount .. but this guy is a good RB.. Eventually will challege for carries and will become at the very least an even split with mccoy .. Doesnt dance and hits the whole .. those words are in every scouting report i seen .. that alone makes me give this guy and A .. maybe Mccoy can watch and learn how to hit a hole .. will deff make this team 100 percent over Buckley and mallet .. welcome your new platoon RB

Grade - A+

#220 Jamar Chaney LB Mississippi State - Another great pick! huge value here .. a guy who could of easily went in rounds 3 or 4 .. a good LB with good size at 6 foot 240 and ran a 4.54 40 .. this guy will be a good LB for us .. makes gaither expandable .. will start this year as a special teamer who will replace either Mays or Gaither on the roster .. eventually could challenge for playing time .. i like this guy more than Fokou and he has a lot more upside

Grade - A

#243 Jeff Owens DT Georgia - Decent pick .. has good size and will challege Dixon for the 4th DT spot .. more than likely a practice squad guy but worth a shot

Grade - C

#244 Kurt Coleman S Ohio State - No clue who this dude is . .didnt notice him in Ohio state games .. Camp body and prob practice squad or IR with some phantom Injury .. this guy was ranked as 16th best saftey .. thats not too impressive .. he cant be any worse than Macho but thats not saying much

Grade - D

There are some good FAs out there .. my boy blount is gone .. and so is brandon carter but there are some decent lineman .. and wild eagles lover Micah johnson didnt get drafted either .. so as much as i make fun of wild eagle .. i wouldnt mind signing Micah Johnson .. if anything it will make wild eagle happy .. which is fine by me .. i pick on him a lot so let him have his boy ..

Hate to say it....

But I basically agree. I think we all wish we had done better for a CB, but overall it was an ok draft.

lol it cracks me up that people always say

“hate to say” when they agree with JIBTA

just decided they should add something to the health care bill. Everyone should be made to get a membership to a gym and must use it. If not then they should be penalized for not taking care of themselves. All in favor? Oh wait...it doesn't matter what we think.

Who are you referencing when you say a guy was “rated” at a certain round.

I talked to scouts at the draft that had Te’o-Nesheim as a 4th round pick. Where are you getting this undrafted thing from?

Do I have to parrot this over and over?

Good measurables + great production at UW + decent size for a DE (6-3, 263) = lots of potential.

I’m not making any guarantees (like I would say about everyone in the draft), but he seems more likely than not to make an impact for us.

Making JIBTA listen to reason is about as likely as...

by The Legend on Apr 24, 2010 11:57 PM EDT up reply actions

He also plays better than Laws ..

… or has to date. You can actually think of a play Dixon has made, whereas Laws … (draws a blank)

Laws might still have more potential, or might be a fit in someone else’s system, but Dixon was pretty clearly the next-best DT after Bunk and Patterson last year.

That’s why I was hoping we could trade him to a 3-4 team. I don’t think he’s a bad player. But like Gocong, he’s in the wrong system.

by IronHank on Apr 25, 2010 10:20 AM EDT up reply actions

That's what I'm hoping for

But according to Andy, he likes him first as a rotational defensive lineman to replace Chris Clemons in the joker role.

He’ll start off as a defensive lineman, and then he’ll learn some of the linebacker stuff. We have the joker position where he can stand up, like Chris (Clemons) did.

you may not

you may not be an athlete. But this is what these kids have done, day in and day out for the better part of their lives. They all have made some sort of impact at their position in HS, college, and now look to do the same in the pro’s.

Wes Welker is a white receiver and he is very good. yes he isn’t “dominant”, but catching 123 balls a year is not mistake. I mean if he was the only one on the team that is one thing, but he is playing opposite of Randy Moss who gets more then his fair share of looks.
Brian urlacher was very dominant at the MLB spot earlier in his career. Injuries have slowed him down since, but you can’t take away from his early accomplishments.
Race plays no part in a person’s ability to succeed at any level of anything they do. Hard work, making the most of your opporunities and a desire to propel yourself to the next level is how you should be judged on your abilities.

Ed McCaffery, Wayne Chrebet, Joe Jurevicius, WR
John Lynch, FS
Peyton Hillis, Toby Gerhart, HB (both are going to be beasts, and Hillis plays LB too)

And here’s the point JIBTA, nobody with sense is going to argue that people of direct African descent are, in general, more athletic than those of Caucasian descent. I’m an anthropology major, that’s a pretty widely accepted idea. But the problem here is that if you put two WRs with the same numbers, say 6’3" 210lbs, a 4.55 in the 40 and a 30" vertical, equal times in the shuttle and cone drills, equal reps, etc., you would choose the black player over the white which is racism. Even though you’re white, it’s still textbook racism. You need to be more open to new things, sir JIBTA.

You don't think Wes Welker's a Number 1?

Well, in the traditional sense he’s not, but hear this:

After Tom Brady got hurt, Belichick changed their offense to make it easier for Matt Cassel: more short slants to complement his weak arm, and Welker, being the best slot guy in the league, turned the change of role into a banner year. And if you watched the Pats last year, Welker was option 1 on almost every single pass play. He means five times more to that team than Randy Moss right now, and has for 1.5 seasons.

And Edelman is a Welker clone. I fully expect him to be one of the top slots in the league in 2-3 years.

Brandon Graham isn’t comparable to Jared Allen. Allen gets sacks purely by powering past the lineman, and he’s really effing good at it. Graham compares instead to a Dwight Freeney/Robert Mathis guy, a small but very fast player who is able to scoot past tackles for sacks and has enough power to be disruptive on every down. I call him an A/A-.

And DTM – maybe he was a slight reach, but that’s the worst I can say. He has the tools – agility, power, and burst – to make an impact as an edge or inside rusher. A-/B+ for him.

I'm not saying you have to listen to me.

For every Matt McCoy and Trevor Laws

There’s a McNabb, Shawn Andrews (say what you want but the guy was a top 3 guard at his peak), Kolb, DeSean, Maclin, Celek, Trent, Mikell, Stew, Sheldon, Westbrook, etc etc…

Among the biggest reasons they have gotten to the point where people still believe they can make the playoffs despite cutting tons of veterans and a franchise QB is because they have found many of their big cornerstones through the draft and as UFAs – last year’s 11-5 team started 16 of 22 guys who were originally drafted or signed by the Eagles.

All those guys above, who have carried the Eagles all these years and will carry them for the next few, are Eagles draft picks. And the future is bright, even you can admit that.

So yeah, I trust them.

"When guys like McShay"

McShay’s football scouting IQ is in the negatives. He screwed over Wooden in 2007 and Snead in this year’s draft.

Once upon a time, Mel Kiper was the primary target of NFL scouts; Kiper has been supplanted by his on-air protege/rival at ESPN, Todd McShay. As McShay’s profile increases, and as he takes on the likes of quarterback Jimmy Clausen for reasons that many league insiders believe have no merit, McShay becomes a magnet for criticism.

“Most people at my level feel he is a joke,” a veteran NFL scout told us via e-mail. “People in the league respect Kiper. He is not a true scout but he does work at it. A lot of his info he gets from connections in the league, and over the years he has made quite a few. When he was younger he used to burn some bridges. He doesn’t do that any more.”

So what about McShay?

“McShay does not have any good connections,” the source opined. "Higher-ups in the league think he is an arrogant asshole. A know-it-all. And he really knows nothing. Whatever he says about a quarterback, take it to the bank, it will be the opposite. Remember, last August he stated that Jevan Snead was better than Colt McCoy and would get drafted in the top five. He has yet to publicly retract that statement.

“One of the reasons the kid came out was because of what McShay said. The family thought McShay knew and everyone else was wrong. . . . He has problems with game management, accuracy and leadership among other things, but pretty boy Todd thought he was great because of one good game (the Cotton Bowl) a year ago. McShay is a pretty face who comes across like he knows what he is talking about. He does have good presence, but knows nothing.”

A common name we’ve heard when it comes to McShay is Andre Woodson. McShay championed Woodson during the 2007 season. Woodson ended up being a sixth-round pick, and he’s now out of the league.

The teams knew that Woodson wasn’t as good as McShay was saying. The problem is that the player and his family don’t have access to what the teams are thinking. The player and his family see and hear the stuff that gets played on television, and they tend to believe it when ESPN attaches to the talking head the phony, official-sounding title of “director of college scouting.”

Some of this may be true but how does one guy’s opinion constitute an NFL-wide opinion of McShay. He could have an axe to grind with him for numerous reasons.

As for those 2 guys, yeah he was wrong big time but I would like to see something a bit more conclusive.

That’s cause I’ve said that because JIBTA goes to Stockton, he will only be qualified to be a janitor or a pimp, which is similar to his Husky argument. The argument breaker is that Westy went to Villanova – not what you would call a great football school.

But I was just kidding. Many graduates from Stockton are paroled and go on to become useful members of society. :)

Jerry Rice went to Mississippi Valley State

Brian Westbrook went to Villanova

And by the way, since I was a student at Washington in the time of the Purple Haze, it’s not like they’ve always been a bad team.

Wow...

DTN was one of my favorite players in the whole draft. Well before the Eagles drafted both of them, I thought DTN was the west coast version of Brandon Graham.

And DTN is actually more physically gifted then Graham. And of course, JIBTA hates him. Well..hates Graham too.

But JIBTA likes JPP. Shit…I was just starting to warm up to this dude. Figures that JIBTA’s got the same hard on for him the Giants front office does.

Joking aside….DTN was one of my favorite players in the whole draft. To write him off cuz he went to Washington and a bunch of internet scouts don’t like it, is laughable…

You all didn’t get the steal of the draft with Ricky Sapp. You got it with DTN. I’ll keep an eye on this dude, even if I hope he doesn’t win you any games and come down with the flu when you play the Giants.

by FreeBradshaw on Apr 25, 2010 8:24 AM EDT reply actions

I agree
DTN was one of my favorite players in the whole draft.

Same here. I’ve been singing his praises for a little while now. I think people are pissed about this pick because “experts” like Mel Kiper and Todd McShay (who’ve never had a job in the NFL) had him as a 4th rounder at the earliest. Fans get too influenced by the so-called experts.

You all didn’t get the steal of the draft with Ricky Sapp. You got it with DTN.

I like the Sapp pick where we got him, but in the 3rd there’s no doubt I’d take DTN over Sapp.

I’ll keep an eye on this dude, even if I hope he doesn’t win you any games and come down with the flu when you play the Giants.

Haha I don’t blame you.

by Smitty2K3 on Apr 25, 2010 8:42 AM EDT up reply actions

agree with you on Sapp

I think at worst he’s a pass rushing SAM and he could also be another Cole if he bulks up.

Its just funny..and it shows where JIBTA is coming from, that cuz the Eagles drafted this dude and the National Football Post says he’s a 7th rounder.

I mean, what if Jerry Reese or Coughlin, or Banner or Andy Reid went and made a 7 round mock draft for all of us?

What would we say then? Would it look like Wes Bunting’s mock?

Andy Reid and co. had DTN where he was drafted if not higher. Jerry Reese had all his players where they were if not higher.

by FreeBradshaw on Apr 25, 2010 2:57 PM EDT up reply actions

True

at a certain point, people’s board vary. If the Eagles thought he was a good value where they got him, great.

But at the same time, if nobody else thought that (not that there’s any way to know that) then it’s not a good pick, even if he ends up being a good player.

In the end, since we can never know if DTN was on other NFL teams’ boards as a late 3rd/early 4th, then it’s impossible to tell if the Eagles did well there. And in the end, all that matters two months from now and beyond is if he produces or doesn’t.

Still waiting for the Eagles to Bring It Home For Jerome

by D3Keith on Apr 25, 2010 3:31 PM EDT up reply actions

I absolutely disagree 100%. If you take DTN a round too early and he is a good player who cares if you could have gotten him a round later. The purpose of the draft is to get good football players, not good “draft value.”

The 3rd round and later are basically a crap shoot anyways, get good players wherever you want I don’t care if some people will say it is too early.

Nobody's saying the draft's purpose is anything but

“to get good football players.” That’s not the debate at all.

If you could reasonably expect to get the same good football player in the 4th that you took in the 3rd, then theoretically you could add another good football player in the 3rd, therefore accumulating more good football players.

Because we can never know if you really would have been able to get someone in the 4th that you took in the 3rd, it’s not really worth debating at length. But as a theory, it’s certainly legitimate.

Other than that, I completely stand by my earlier post. If you really can’t grasp why it would be beneficial not to take players “a round too early” (if you could ever actually define that), then I’m not really concerned that you disagree 100%.

This scenario just isn’t going to happen, NFL teams don’t cut 3rd rounders the year they draft them. Period.

My grades

Brandon Graham- A
Nate Allen- A
Daniel WTFHLNI- F
Travard Lindley- B(has potential to be a A if he plays like he did on 08, trust me on this one)
Keenan Clayton- C
Mike Kafka- C
Clay Harbor- D, no need for a TE really
Ricky Sapp- B
Riley Cooper- B, good 4th WR, can fill in very well if god forbid an injury happens
Charles Scott- A, dude is a solid runner, he’s the guy we need in some sort of jumbo package
Jamar Chaney- D
Jeff Owens- F
Coleman- F

I like most of the players we got… I think we got 2-3 starters between Graham, Allen and Lindley… 3-5 solid backups/contributers and the rest are developmental/practice squad guys.

yo wild eagle

i am with u bro .. way to give that bum and F .. i agree with u on all except chaney .. hes not a D .. a 7th rounder he is a steal .. he will make this team .. what more can u ask from a 7th rounder?
attention BGN .. wild eagle is smarter than you idiots who think Teo was a good pick just cuz eagles took him and u will defend anything they do

also

charles scott is gonna be a starter .. well a platoon guy with mccoy in my opinion .. ala deangelo and stewart

Yeah I imagine Scott being the Johnathan Stewart type, I saw Stewart turn it on late

in the season last year, took 2-3 years but once he completely adjusted nobody could compete with him… And if Scott ends up the same way I’d take him any day.

Eh, I have Chaney that grade because it’s likely he’ll never see the field in eagles green any other time than preseason..

BTW it’s good were agreeing.

Could there be a JIBTA/WE wedding one day?

They’re turning into the couple that hates eachother into one that turns that strong hate into strong love.. HAHA, I’m just kidding.
Character issues aside, I’d love Lynch. But, Roseman won’t take anyone with low character.

I don't get why people here think of DTN as some kind of cancer we inherited on our team.

I think he’s getting more love from fans visiting the site than he is from BGN guys.

Berries are nice, but Graham crackers taste pretty good too.

To be honest, I think we reached big time for him and if he were really as good as all of them

are saying there team would’ve taken him before us.

You can say that about almost any draft pick, really. (except Sam Bradford)

Yes but these guys come on here and hype him up,

there was a reason there team didnt reach for him like we need, I think Andy just picked him so he could make that dumb joke.

haha

there teams couldnt take him when we took him 3 rounds too early wild eagle lol

I don’t mind him, I just don’t think he was worth the pick we got him fore. I think he’ll be a solid rotational DE/DT guy but that’s not worth a third rounder to me. If he ends up better then I’ll admit I’m wrong, but for what he’s supposed to be I think we reached.

comparing talent

because someone rated them in the later rounds doesn’t suffice for me. I was watching the draft and everytime a new team was up to pick, the “experts” got most of their guesses WRONG. Who would of guess that McCoy would of got picked when he did? I say, we just wait and see what happens in training camp. Some of these guys might surprise you!

lets clear some think up about keenan

hes a strong saftey linebacker hybrid. hes pretty damn fast too and good in coverage. hes prolly meant to cover a tight end
