Eagles trade up in 7th, select LB Jamar Chaney
The Eagles traded their 6th round pick in 2011 for Detroit's #220 overall pick this year. With #220 they selected Jamar Chaney LB Mississippi State.
NFL.com's quick take on the 6-1 242lb Chaney
Chaney is coming off his most productive year as a collegiate player after missing most of the 2008 season with an injury in the opener. Chaney has adequate size, strength and athleticism for the position. Chaney has improved his run defense but is best in space as a coverage defender. He is inconsistent to take on and shed blockers and may be best covered up at the next level. Chaney plays with an excellent motor and is quick to pursue with solid instincts. He runs well and shows excellent range which should make him great in combination man schemes as well as special team’s at the nest level. Chaney is a very good football player that is likely to be productive as a rookie.

Hey, another undersized pick with an excellent motor. Which of these guys will be converted to offensive line?
take a drink
every time you hear “excellent motor”
We'd all be passed out.
"He wasn't an astronaut, he was a tv comedian! And he was just using space travel as a metaphor for beating his wife!"
Alot of their fans wanted him

One of their biggest needs
Make that their most important need. Since day 1. I think its funny that all the draft picks were targeting in the draft were taken before they even got close to em.
Dude runs a sub 4.6 great value, great player

Next pick should be Selvish Capers of WVU. He has fallen a bit, I think. He would add some depth at OT.
Since when did this recent Eagles regime pick workout wonders?
Te’O-Nesheim
Clayton
Harbour
Chaney
Kinda makes the Clayton pick (which I did not like anyway) seem redundant. At least they are drafting LBs.
Wonder if the defensive style will be changing with McDermott.
Who says they’re workout wonders? Te’O-Nesheim was a very productive college player. As was Harbor.
I don’t know enough about the other two to say whether they’re “workout wonders” or not.
Te'O
Wasn’t he a reach? He was graded horrible. This draft looks iffy at best to me.
"Buy low sell high!"
quit being so stubborn
Te’O killed the Combine and was a fast rising guy who was going in the 3-4 range in most knowledgeable mocks before the Draft. He was NOT graded horribly, nor was he a vast reach.
My "t" and "y" buttons are messed up so don't bitch at me about misspelling, I'm just saying.

Agreed
But their combine numbers appears to have bumped them up in value considerably over their college productions alone.
The only pick I am really displeased with is Keenan Clayton because he seems like only a WILL and we have plenty of those.
Also, I really wanted Edds and to have Miami steal him from me makes me think the Eagles panicked and needed some LB there. I’m sure I will never know but Edds could have been the starting SAM this year.
what did we trade to move up?
"Buy low sell high!"
it says a 6th rounder next year for the Lion's 7th this year

I like that we actually drafted players this year
all those times we put something off until the future, THIS was the year we needed to bring people in.
Still waiting for the Eagles to Bring It Home For Jerome
Thank you!

common theme
when you look at the players that were selected in this draft, you consistently see phrases “high motor” and “leadership”. i think our FO felt that the team defense lacked those two qualities last season. in a way, this is their way of saying that they screwed up by letting dawkins go…
i have no problems selecting many players in this draft, since this draft was supposed to be one of the best in awhile. however, if we don’t end up with at least 4 starting-caliber players after all the shuffling howie and andy did, i would consider the draft an utter failure…
Jamar Chaney is on twitter
his name is @Jamar22Chaney. Follow him up, Philly faithful! Show him that brotherly love. Let him know our expectations, as well…
