With the 135th overall pick the Philadelphia Eagles select Clemson DE Ricky Sapp
With the 3rd pick in the 5th round Philadelphia Eagles have selected Ricky Sapp, DE Clemson. Sapp was one of the 30 players the Eagles invited to Philly for a pre draft visit.
Many people feel Sapp projects as a SAM in the NFL. NFL.com quick take
Sapp is an undersized, athletic defensive end who has growth potential. He is a competitive player but tends to be more of a finesse defender against the run. He shows good initial quickness off the line of scrimmage as an edge rusher with the ability to close well to the quarterback. Sapp is a solid reacter who has enough agility and quickness to stand up as an outside 'backer in a 3-4 defensive scheme. His size, versatility and athleticism should bode well as a special-teams contributor, as well as providing depth to a defense at the next level.

6’4 252 ran a 4.65. I HOPE the eagles utilize him like the Skins utilized Orakpo

I would assume McD will be drawing up some great SAM blitzes with Sapp.

I hope cause he sure as hell didnt do any with Gocong. I remember two instances last year where Gocong blitzed, one was vs the cowgirls in the playoffs and i cant remember the first.

Talk about the shotgun approach to DEs between the offseason and the draft…
Tapp
Graham
Teo’what’shisfuck
Sapp
I guess one or two will work out
"I tried to run him over but Eli had his big boy pads on and he kind of stopped me from getting in the end zone. The next time I’ll try to jump over his head.’’ - Asante Samuel
Forget having a linebacking corps…we’re just fielding a defense full of DEs. Gonna be a nightmare for opposing quarterbacks haha.
I think they use him at Strong side but cant they just freakin’ pick players that specialize in their position? Didn’t we try this with Gocong?
4 Defensive ends. What? Are they THAT scared to pick busts?

Do you know just how many players switch positions out of college. It happens all the time. It’s not the like Eagles only do this. All teams so. College DEs to pro OLB is a pretty common move.
I know. I’m not opposed to this pick. I think it could turn out great. Sapp is a pass rush specialist though, not good in coverage, yet.

Exactly; Gocong 2.0 with higher upside IMHO

love this
I think he has better instincts than Gocong, and OK size.
Our front 7…
Sapp, cole, bunk, patterson, graham, and t’o all with their hands in the ground. Stew playing linebacker, and darryl tapp is still wondering why he came to philly.

SOme people will say this was a great value because he was “projected” to go higher… but obviously teams didn’t agree.
Honestly, I’m more wary of a higher projected guy that drops that I am for a so called “reach” pick at this point in the draft. With a “reach” teams are seeing something good, with a slider teams saw things they didn’t like.
Yea….just like Trent Cole, Brent Celek, Stu Bradley etc…

Who of those guys were considered sliders that were projected higher?
maybe Bradley because he’d had a knee injury…
I remember Celek being projected in the third. Cole, I can’t remember. Gibson is another good example. He was projected in the second round in 2008, stayed in school then projected in the 4th because of system changes. Eagles got him in the 5th and used him to get Witherspoon. He had 34 catches in just 4 starts(9 games) with the Rams.

gibson
gibson was never projected to go that high .. hes a 4th or 5th wr at best

I don’t remember where he was projected, but I do know that his stocked dropped bigtime in his senior year because his team was so bad and it hurt his production.
I like this pick…looks like Akeem Jordan can pack his bags too, or at least get ready for a season on the bench. I’d rather have a young inexperienced linebacking corps than a consistently mediocre one…

i hate being critical but jesus h. christ, what the hell are these guys doing?// no LBs, Not much help at Cb or S. No OL. i gotta guess they know more than me, but for real…
No offense
But they usually do. Sometimes it blows up, sometimes it works. But with the amount of successful lower round players—and undrafted players—in Reid’s tenure certainly calls for us to at least not crucify him, ya know?

Dropped a few rounds from an ACL surgery his junior season because he publicly admitted to playing his sr. year at 60%. Could be a steal if he plays at 100%

The Eagles are going to have such a great 3-4 defense next year. Too bad they play a 4-3.
There’s going to be a lot of pressure on the offense to score early. If the Eagles can get a lead, they should be good against the pass. If they have to stop the run, though, watch out. It seems like every defensive player they’ve drafted has been described as “undersized.” This could be a long season if the Eagles offense doesn’t jump ahead of teams early.
Well Juaron betterr be as good of a secondary coach as he is hailed as
just decided they should add something to the health care bill. Everyone should be made to get a membership to a gym and must use it. If not then they should be penalized for not taking care of themselves. All in favor? Oh wait...it doesn't matter what we think.
I hope so because idk about this kid from Kentucky.

Well he was obviously good enough to be considered for a HC position, and there for a while. I think Jauron will help us big time.

He turned Byrd into a pro bowler, i can only imagine what he does to Allen. Maybe he can teach Asante to tackle

Or this Nate Allen character…"projections" say he’ll beat out Demps and Macho for the job..that leaves about 3 ?’s in our secondary alone..

anyone else hoping for greg hardy in this pick
very injury prone at ole miss but being an ole miss fan he was awesome when healthy could be a very good situational pass rusher
Idk about the rest of you but i want Cam Thomas or Arthur Jones. I have no faith in Laws. And what happened to the center from BC, was he drafted?
Cam Thomas wouldn't be bad
and Tennant’s still on the board
Berries are nice, but Graham crackers taste pretty good too.

Laws will be replaced
with either Te’O or Abiamiri moving to ‘rush’ DT.

Did the Jets offer Washington to the Eagles?
Seems like Andy’s kind of player and has produced in the NFL.
I don't know anything about Teo whoever
but I have seen this guy play last year and this, he is a tough dude. I like his intensity and he really can hit. I hope he can make the transition to SAM, I would like to see him every play.
Sapp
Good Value, but seriously are switching to a 3-4???
