Haha, you beat me to it. I’m not being an ass, just making a point. The difference is that by SBN guidlines, this should be Fanpost with a link to what Sal Palanotonio said. We have had way too many fanposts here and when we get this many it forces well thought-out posts that are worth reading off the page. Not saying this isn’t worth reading, but I’d hate to see one of ChaoticEagles posts pushed into oblivion by short posts. So, to take a nicer version of what you said, please calm down a little bit.

I would LOVE this, but I’m not sure I’d love it at the 37th pick. If we traded back (or up a ways from the 55th) to pick him in the mid second round I’d be more OK with it.

I really wanted Best to fall to 37. I think we need speed at the RB position pretty badly. Shady is a fine player, but he’s not that super fast shifty guy I want to be able to put in from time to time to threaten defenses

I would be OK with this if we had a 3rd rounder.

McCluster is a little slow, and is TINY.

But his style is identical to Sproles. And we know they liked Sproles. I wouldn’t mind to see us trade back into the 3rd, or even get another second rounder to get McCluster.

We still need a Center and Sam somehow. I don’t see how we can fill all our needs. I don’t think RB is a huge need right now being we have sooo many other holes. But I would love to see McCluster as an Eagle.

I know, BWest was slow by these standards.

It would be irresponsible of us to mention his 40 @ 4:58. That’s tight end speed. But many players run that speed are are game fast.

Also, saying the Eagles are “interested” in a player … whoop-de-doo. They’re probably interested in 20 players every round. They only get to have one or two.

caught a big marlin this offseason and plan to play him at the FS position and CB#2 position at the same time! They realize that with this catch they only need 10 men on defense or it would be unfair to opposing offenses

by DeSean10 on Apr 23, 2010 2:42 PM EDT up reply actions

yeah… mike bell was prety good with new orleans… The two years before that, 19 attempts 45 yards, COMBINED. Take a Detroit Lions blowout from week 1 off his stat sheet last year and we are looking at a guy that averaged 33 yards a game (granted in shared duty) behind the most feared passing attack in the league. Mike Bell is a dime a dozen player and the second mccoy goes out with even the smallest of inuries we have one of the worst 5 starting RBs in the league. No defensive coordinator misses sleep wondering how we are going to use mike bell. DCs are going to be doing their best to find any hole in kolbs game they can exploit, that little bit of extra time they need to account for mccluster might be all the difference in the world.

Ive already written fanposts about McCoy and him trying to add some bulk for this year. How did changing your body type work out for Lendale White?? How much speed/quickness did he lose and for what advantage?? We know a lot about 198 lb lesean mccoy, we know NOTHING about 215 lb lesean mccoy.

the dude’s gonna get railed on a weekly basis by these big NFL linemen.

I’m gonna ignore half the bullshit you just spewed out, but here’s the difference between Westbrook and McCluster: ~40 pounds. And Westbrook’s career was shortened by injury, so your point is poor at best.

You could make that argument about literally any position

So we should waste a 2nd rounder on a position because we don’t want the 3rd stringer starting? Dumb argument.

by BarbarosaNo on Apr 23, 2010 2:49 PM EDT up reply actions

its a better argument than “he will just turn into another desean jackson”

While the argument could be made about any position the way RBs are used in todays game completely outweighs any other position. The amount of beating that an average RB takes combined with the different looks we would want to put out there makes it something you have to consider. I also want to point out that on any offense worth a shit Mike Bell would be the 3rd back

VOID!!!

by dt3 on Apr 23, 2010 3:46 PM EDT up reply actions

If you’re gonna quote me at least get it right.

Anyway, based on the beating RBs take do you really want such a tiny guy in there for us? I’ll admit we need another back, but not McCluster, and certainly not in the 2nd. Too many starting roles on defense we have concerns about to be worrying about backup roles on offense. Mike Bell will be fine for a spell back. McCoy can carry most of the load.

by BarbarosaNo on Apr 23, 2010 3:54 PM EDT up reply actions

he will just turn into another desean jackson

vs

It’s basically just Desean lined up at RB.

for such a nonsenical argument… i got it close enough. yes mike bell would be a fine spell back for a team with a veteran QB and a feared passing attack… not seeing either of those (yet).

You keep on panicking and drafting solely on need… let me know where that gets you. Im willing to bet its drafting another DB to replace this one 1 or 2 years from now. We are fine at 3cb with hobbs/hanson, unless a player can come in and instantly walk into the CB2 spot they have little to none to offer us. Unless there is a player who is clear cut above the others in this second wave of DBs there is no reason to be the first person jumping on the bandwagon, especially when we pick again at 55.

I think we have more pressing needs at safety and corner.

you could also say we have a more pressing need at center… that doesnt mean it makes sense to jump at that position just yet.

The saints pick of Patrick Robinson at 32 officially closed the window on the first tier of secondary players, why rush to jump on the 2nd wave when there is still going to be plenty of comparable players available at 55 (and possibly later). Yes, if we go with McCluster at 37 we might miss out on Nate Allen, I dont know about you guys but I dont have Chad Jones (or even Morgan Burnett) that far behind him. Compare that to the choices at RB if we miss out on Dex… Joe McKnight?? Thats about it when it comes down to the explosive speed style back we would want to pair up with mccoy + weaver.

Ill also argue against you that safety + corner is a more pressing need… We dont have Donovan back there anymore, with Kolb coming in defenses are going to key on him and (for once) we are going to need a strong running game to help him out. A player like McCluster, a player that opposing teams are going to have to take a little time to game plan for is the type of guy we need.

McCoy goes out for even the shortest bit of time, who do we have to turn to?? Mike Bell?? Sure the guy played alright last year but you have to realize his numbers were greatly inflated by 1) playing with one of the best passing attacks in years and 2) lots of mop up duty. Howd he do that before that?? 2 years, 19 attempts, 45 total yards… Mike Bell starting for us would give us one of the 5 worst starting RBs in the league. We dont have the QB play to balance that out that we once did (or if we do we dont know it for sure yet).

by D3Keith on Apr 23, 2010 2:15 PM EDT up reply actions

you missed my point though… yes there are good safties left at 37 and, short of an unexpected run, there will be more comparable safties available at 55.

RBs that fit on our system though?? not soo much… and dont even start with this gerhart, hardesty, tate stuff. We’ve never went with a big back before, we arent going to start the year after we find leonard weaver.

by Djax10 on Apr 23, 2010 3:08 PM EDT up reply actions

i have been riding the blount bandwagon hard but didnt roseman come out and say he wasnt looking at any players with character concerns in the draft this year. Combine that with the FO reluctance to ever bring in a big bruising back and the emergence of Leonard Weaver and I just dont see it.

We draft Hardesty and what does that give us?? 3 power backs (hardesty, bell, weaver) and one speed back (mccoy) who might not even that much speed left after adding 15 lbs. Its not like we could look at getting hardesty much later than we would get mccluster either.

I don't care what his 40 time is

I watched this guy play, against the top competition in college football, and just made them all look SILLY with his speed. I have no idea how he ran a 4.58, but he’s lightning. He’s got top end speed, acceleration, change of direction, stop start. I mean he’s lightning. Don’t be put off by the combine number.

He’s also tough and willing to run inside. That doesn’t mean I think he will be great at it, and, who really wants to see a guy that small having to run inside, but it’s nice that he’s tough and willing on the rare occasion we’d use him that way.
