Raiders shopping McFadden?
Original article:
ESPN’s Chris Mortensen said on ESPN Radio
Thursday morning that two high-profile AFC West players could be available during the draft. Mortensen said Oakland could move running back Darren McFadden and San Diego could trade linebacker Shawne Merriman.
The McFadden talk is surprising. He was the No. 4 overall pick in 2008. McFadden hasn’t made much of an impact and has often been injured. Still, as of now, McFadden and Michael Bush are expected to carry the load at running back for Oakland. Justin Fargas was released earlier this offseason.
If the Raiders want to trade McFadden, perhaps they are preparing to draft a running back. Clemson running back C.J. Spiller has the world-class speed that Oakland owner Al Davis craves, but so does McFadden. That’s why he was picked so high when Oakland had other glaring needs two years ago. Spiller would require Oakland’s’ top pick, which is No. 8 overall.
Perhaps the Raiders will look for a running back later in the draft. Still, I think dealing McFadden may be difficult because of his lack of production. Plus, this is a very deep running back class, so it would be surprising if a team gave up much for McFadden. There’s no way Oakland will get fair-market value in return. Oakland can’t just give away the No. 4 overall pick from two years ago. In the end, I’d be surprised if McFadden was traded.
I’d be less surprised if Merriman was sent packing, although I’m not necessarily expecting it. There has been talk of Merriman’s availability all offseason. Merriman would have to sign his restricted free-agency tender to facilitate a trade. If a team wanting to trade for Merriman is willing to give him a new contract, I’d imagine he wouldn’t have a problem signing his tender to kick start the trade.
Will these deals happen? We’ll see soon. It just adds to the excitement of the weekend.
I can't imagine the Raiders expect to get a high draft pick for McFadden since his contract is high and he hasn't produced yet, so my question is what would you give up to bring him in? Would Davis take Vick and a third day pick? one of our 3rd rounders enough? Would you even want McFadden here? I still think we haven't seen his potential yet playing in Oakland even though Bush has done well behind that line. I am tired of all the Berry/Thomas talk since I am at the point I will be let down if we don't get Berry so I wanted propose something else to chat about while we all wait for the draft to start.

Does it really matter?
Whoever it would be, would practically be 5th in the depth chart behind Mccoy, McFadden, Bell, and Weaver. So basically 0 touches this year.
Nah,
but I like Buckley better.

I am high on McFadden
And a guy not producing on the Raiders really doesn’t bother me. If it wasn’t for the high contract I’d even give up a 3rd round pick for him. I think he could be exceptional for us.
how much of the cash was guaranteed. Oakland eats that on a trade
I bet his base isn’t as high I we think.
In Kolb we trust
Eevn still
We have Shady (who everyone just wants to throw away after 1 year), Weaver (who everyone wants to throw away in the off season even though they raved in season0 and Bell who won’t get many carries anyway.
Where would McFadden fit in/
E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!!!
Certainly above Bell
And realistically above the other two as well as a runner. If McCoy beats him out it’s because of knowledge of the offense, blocking, and maybe even catching. It certainly wouldn’t be based on running though.
Again, his lack of production in Oakland doesn’t bother me a bit. I’ve seen others fail to produce there who were outstanding.
wht has mcfadden shown that he can do better than shady or weaver?
he boasts a 3.9 ypc. michael bush has already gotten the job over him
E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!!!
He's bigger, stronger, faster than shady
And weaver he’s obviously not bigger/stronger, but he’s faster and is a true RB. I like Weaver and all, but the idea that he should carry the ball 7-10 times a game to me is a bit much. I’m thinking 3-4 times a game.
How many times must I post on this same forum: I’m not bothered by his lack of production in Oakland!
People don’t want to throw weaver away, he’s a full back which is why people want more RB depth.

There’s a difference, Joe. Mike Alstott was a FB that could run, but he wasn’t a RB. Mike Vick (used to be) a QB who can run, does that make him a RB?

And you just compared a FB to a RB. Both Vick and Weaver have tremendous athletic ability, and can run the ball well. Both will be asked to run the ball. Neither are RBs. That is my point. RBs can catch, they’re not WRs. LBs can rush, they’re not DEs, etc… Just because Weaver can run the ball doesn’t mean he’s a running back, and he won’t be as effective if he’s not used as a FB.

Ummm
A FB is a lot more a RB then a QB is…
I don't think anyone is implying throwing Shady away...
It’s a 2 RB league now, and I really like the thought of Shady/McFadden.

Really bad line?
I might have liked it better when you had McNabb to focus all of your irrational comments on. Now they seem to be getting spread around.
The line was far from “really bad” last year. It was at the absolute worst slightly below average, and that was only for the last game and a half or so (including the playoffs). The majority of the year the line was well above average. It just wasn’t as good as the Eagles are used to, or as good as it was hyped up to be. The season average line play was definitely above the league average.
But we're talking about
THE RAIDERS…. I don’t know that Peyton Manning could make the Raiders good. They’ve got more problems than any one man can fix. I think playing for the Eagles, McFadden could be a top 10 back.
More injury prone players..
And we already looked at Fargas, the Raiders’ other RB
The Eagles WILL redeem themselves in the '10-'11 season, with a win at SuperBowl 45 in Dallas!
I'd deal Vick for him
(I’m of the mindset that the Eagles should deal Vick for the best offer on the table as of the start of the Saturday portion of the draft, though, so that’s not saying a whole lot).
If nothing else I’d like to see McFadden behind an actual, living, breathing offensive line.
Apparantly
