The Linc - Aggressive Eagles

Eagles Figure to be Aggressive in Draft | CSNPhilly
Eleven draft picks seems like a lot, feels like a lot and is a lot. The Eagles’ War Room is going to be busy from Thursday to Sunday in an NFL draft that is vital to their future.

Did 2007 Trade Net Two First-Round Picks? - Philadelphia Eagles
"After watching the failures of JaMarcus Russell and Brady Quinn, Kolb might be the best quarterback to emerge from the 2007 draft class," Brooks wrote. "Although he only has two career starts under his belt, his back-to-back games with more than 300 yards last season is far more noteworthy than any of the performances of his classmates."

I've been telling people McNabb will get an ovation upon his return ...

… I hope the Philly faithful don’t let me down.

Here in D.C., everyone who used to hate on McNabb suddenly loves him, but since we Philly fans overrun their stadiums, they see this as their rescuing a great player from an unappreciating fan base.

I think the “Philly hates McNabb” thing is overblown. Yeah, we’re an angsty fanbase, but not the only one. Yeah the guy never earned our undying loyalty in the way Dawk did or Westbrook did (mostly, IMHO, because he was too concerned with saying ‘the right thing’ instead of what was really on his mind, and he never came off as genuine. It wasn’t just not winning a SB)

But we respected him. We cheered him for 11 years and made him very rich. And since he didn’t leave us for the Redskins by choice, I don’t think we’ll hold the fact that he’s one of them against him.

I think he’ll get a surprisingly warm welcome on his return to Philly. But if not now — And I can understand that since he plays for a rival — he’d be much appreciated by Eagles fans if he’s inducted in Canton.

I would love it if he and Dawk went in on the same day. Northeast Ohio would be overrun with green.

McNabb

Donovan will get a standing ovation upon his return. Bank on it. We’ll show the entire NFL community how knowledgeable and classy we, as Eagle fans, truly are. Of course the press will still paint us as barbarians…

I agree

Though the ESPN crew treats all Philly fans as if mutilate opposing teams fans and rape their corpses in the port-o-johns at the Linc, the Linc is a pretty classy place.

In other news, however, this certainly doesn’t help…

NEWJERSEYNEWSROOM.COM
A Cherry Hill man is facing assault and harassment charges after police say he intentionally vomited on the 11-year-old daughter of an off-duty police Captain and two police officers during a Phillies-Nationals game Wednesday evening.

Police say Matthew Clemmens’ assault began after a friend of his was tossed from the stadium for unruly behavior.

Captain Michael Vangelo, an Easton, Pennsylvania police officer, said he witnessed Clemmens sticking his fingers down his throat, forcing himself to regurgitate onto his daughter, Vangelo and then the arresting officer before punching Vangelo.

Clemmens was arraigned Friday morning.

...But if he pulls the rug on his quarterback, Reid must do it knowing that he let McNabb down more than McNabb ever let him down.

that certainly does not help...

The only thing “good” about that story was seeing that idiot’s photo after he was arrested. I hope you got to see his black eye and puffy face! Kudos to whoever took charge and worked him over. He obviously asked for it…

Hopefully he is treated to a "jailhouse honeymoon"

That should dampen his enthusasium for vomiting on little girls.

I hope you're right

But that idiot Cataldi is already getting his crew of mouth-breathers back together to humiliate all of us again. They’ll probably be drowned out by the cheers, but who do you think gets interviewed on ESPN?

by Tracer Bullet on Apr 18, 2010 12:01 PM EDT up reply actions

Cataldi is a jerkoff.

A classless moron who tries to be a mix of sports reporter and Howard Stern type irreverence. Remember him challenging Charlie Manuel to a fist fight? I pray every day that he gets incurable diarrhea…

by 92-74-99-96 on Apr 18, 2010 12:46 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions

That was Howard Eskin who almost got in a fight with Charlie. Cataldi wanted to do a classic(al) boxing match against Charlie, but was actually joking about it.

i stand corrected...

But I am still of the opinion that he is a jerkoff. If I can’t have the incurable diarrhea wish I hope for eternal constipation. Just can’t stand him.

I take Cataldi for what he is: an idiot. I appreciate his humor, and his various moments of zen, but for the most part I realize he’s just an idiot. If you listen to him in any other way he’s a complete jerkoff who makes a mockery of the sports journalism field. His morning show, though, is the prototypical morning show for almost any station.

On a another note, about Roseman ...

… I know I’d fit in better with the Negadelphians if I automatically hated everyone in the front office, but from what I’ve read so far, Roseman seems to be saying all the right things.

Obviously he’ll be judged by his actions more than his words, but I think he’s done a good job so far of articulating the Eagles’ mentality without giving away too much or being too self-congratulatory.

The fact that he considers himself more aggressive than Heckert could make the next few years very interesting. In a good or bad way.

Don't worry, Keith.

I hate everyone in the front office. And I think Roseman is a pansy.

What does 20 yards convert to in metric?

Maybe it seems a lot longer there..

The Eagles WILL redeem themselves in the '10-'11 season, with a win at SuperBowl 45 in Dallas!

It didn't take long

…to decide that article about Reid’s drafts was a piece of crap.

He starts by ranking the players drafted (not based on draft position, but on performance), and has the following nuggets:

1. Celek is a tier above Bunkley / Patterson / Sheppard
2. Bunkley / Patterson / Sheppard are in the same tier as Avant / Buckhalter
3. Avant / Buckhalter are a tier above Kolb
4. Kolb is in the same tier as LJ Smith / Gocong / Pinkston

Sorry, buddy. Sheppard went to multiple Pro Bowls and was a first-team All Pro, and Bunkley and Patterson are even odds to do the same. You can’t lump them in with a good #2 RB and a very good #3 WR, while putting Celek in the superstar tier.

And putting the good backups a tier ahead of our starting QB, who you lump in with Todd Freaking Pinkston…well, there’s no need for me to read the rest of that article.

by Eric T. on Apr 18, 2010 1:40 PM EDT reply actions

I wrote it, so I'll defend myself...

Obviously it’s all a matter of opinion and was a crude way of doing it. The post (since you didn’t finish it) was more about what positions we focus on and how successful we are at drafting each position, so the rankings didn’t really matter all that much.

On your points…

1/2. So you can make the leap that Bunkley and Patterson are “even odds” to make multiple pro bowls, but my leap that Celek will make them is ridiculous? Also, it’s my personal opinion that Lito Sheppard was wildly overrated due to making a couple big plays a year. Kind of like Asante Samuel. I think an above-average starter is exactly what he was.
3. Kolb was impossible to put somewhere. He’s made 2 starts. I think he will be an above-average player, but he’s not yet, so I put him as average. Buckhalter I probably should have put as an average starter.
4. See #3. And yes, Pinkston sucked as a #1 WR, but he was an average player in the league.

Yeah I didn't have a problem with where you slotted most guys

… the greater thing I got out of it is that each round is what it is, at least over a period of 11 years for the Eagles. They’ve almost always gotten a good player in the 1st, pretty useful guys in 2nd through 4th, a couple huge hits in the 5th … and the 6th and 7th rounds are pretty worthless.

I bet Rosie plays fantasy football!

I don’t buy one bit that they are trying to win now (i.e. win the Super Bowl.). I would buy if they were honest, that they are trying to score and give the fans entertaining football running up and down the field. This team is 8-8 at best.
