Kiper mocks our first 4 picks

This is pretty much a copy and paste from insider.  Will comment after article.

Philadelphia Eagles
Top needs: C/G, CB, LB, FS, DT, DE, P
First round (24): CB Kareem Jackson
Second-round (37*, 55): S Major Wright, G Jon Asamoah
Third-round (70, 87): LB Navorro Bowman, DT Lamarr Houston
Fourth-round (105, 121): S T.J. Ward, DE Greg Hardy
Summary: These aren't sexy picks, but the Eagles have done the work at the skill positions in recent drafts and now need to focus on specific weaknesses. Jackson has become, to me, the second-best corner in the draft, and isn't far behind Joe Haden. Asamoah is extremely steady and durable and adds strength to the interior of the offensive line. With a young QB in the huddle, coach Andy Reid should keep his team well-equipped to run the ball when they want to. Bowman has first-round talent, but size questions drop him. He'll have to show he can play week-to-week in the NFL. Hardy is a similar story, a player with a ton of talent who has dealt with nagging injuries at Ole Miss. Houston fits the scheme along the defensive interior, and Ward is, in some estimations, among the top five or six safeties in the draft.

I like going secondary with the first two picks assuming players we like are available, but I hope we do better than what he has.  I would love to find a way assuming we don't trade up to get any combination of Kyle Wilson/Kareem Jackson, Washington, and Nate Allen or Morgan Burnett with the first 3 picks.  I still think that leaves us with plenty of picks to address the OL.  Just wanted to get this up for those that don't have insider, I recall seeing a lot of Kiper is an idiot posts and once again I think he doesn't get us enough talent in the first 4 picks.

I don't just hate 1 or 2 of those picks...

I despise each and every one of them, with the exception of maybe Lamarr Houston. If this is how the Eagles’ draft pans out, I’ll be extremely pissed.

I wouldn't worry

Kiper’s a draft guru in his own mind, I never listen to what he has to say. We have the picks to move up if we want…anything can happen.

Tony Romo...why so serious?

Lol, me too

That would be an awful draft. Someone would need to be punched in the face.

Major Wright,

I think he might work out. The rest suck out loud. Thank god kiper NEVER gets any of our picks right.

How can you hate...

Navarro Bowman in the 3rd and quality players all around?

What do you guys really expect

24th pick – Eric Berry

35th pick – Dez Bryant

55th Pick – Superman

70th pick – Joe Haden

Etc.????

Seriously, you do the best with what is available, and it looks like these guys are all quality players, we are even picking up starters in the 3rd round

by PierrEagles on Apr 16, 2010 3:03 PM EDT reply actions

I assume that reply is to me?

Every single one of those picks are reaches. They may very well be quality players, but much better players will be on the board at each of those selections. And just FYI, we have the 37th pick, not the 35th.

by JimmyK on Apr 16, 2010 3:13 PM EDT up reply actions

Oooh… Superman at the 55th pick? Great value pick. Love it. What position does he play though?

Let the beasting begin.

Offensive line...

Go to the 1:58 mark – Demarcus Ware wouldn’t get anywhere near our QB.

Yea, but are heat rays a penalty or no?

by jayfire137 on Apr 16, 2010 3:27 PM EDT up reply actions

I think he’d get away with it for a year, but then in the next offseason they’d make a rule against it.

Oh wait - Scratch that. I just looked it up...

Section XIV, rule #27-e-43 – No heat rays.

jackson – quality player or not you have to admit he is probably 5th on a list of 5 secondary players we are looing at for the first round

wright – probably a round and a half earlier than ive seen anywhere else… a player i am not very interested in

asamoah – is it a good pick/value… yes. Does it add any sizzle to an already boring draft… no

bowman – my favorite pick so far but 1) that doesnt say much 2) it might be just me but i am still an akeem jordan fan

houston – again, cant argue with the value but dont see him making much of an impact as a 3rd string DT… very similar in size to everyone we currently have, if we go DT I would rather see us bring in someone bigger (cody)

ward – blah

hardy – remember him actually being mocked in the first round last year and def made a huuuge mistake coming back to school… I honestly havent spent any time looking into him but you dont drop that hard without some major problems/holes

VOID!!!

by dt3 on Apr 16, 2010 3:23 PM EDT up reply actions

I have to disagree

I think everyone of those players could be possibly be taken a pick back for us. Jackson could possibly be there at 37, major right will prob fall to third. We’d be silly to draft on need this year, we should just go with best talent available.

but I like Lamaar Houston and possibly Greg Hardy.

I am really hoping we dont go after Kareem Jackson, i saw this kid play and in my opinion he is NOT worth a first round pick.

Its not so much the players

It is more the value of the picks. Kareem Jackson in 2nd round is realistic and more valuable pick. Major Wright in 2nd round isnt gonna happen. Its a reach. When we mocked 7 round in our GM, I got Wright with our second pick in 3rd round. Bowman and Hardy in 3rd and 4th round have good value there. Jon Asamoah is a late 3rd early 4th round prospect in my book, so taking him so early doesnt make sense for me.

by Isi_eagle on Apr 16, 2010 4:08 PM EDT reply actions

This sucks.

Why settle for Kareem Jackson in the first? Why not Kyle Wilson or Earl Thomas? We can trade up if we have to.

Why MAJOR WRIGHT with the first second round pick? Can you say “reach”? That’s ridiculous. If you’re grabbing a second round safety, there’s no reason Nate Allen or Morgan Burnett won’t be there.

I say, if you can’t grab Earl Thomas, Eric Berry, Kyle Wilson, or Joe Haden in the first round, grab a talented DE like Jerry Hughes, or a OG like Mike Iupati. One of these is guaranteed to still be there. But it would be stupid as hell to reach for Kareem Jackson in the first when you could probably just as easily grab him in the second round.

Ugh.

we’re extremely likely to be trading around, so does any of this actually mean anything?

This is the kind of draft ...

… that would get roundly panned by casual fans and some die-hards off lack of name recognition alone.

Doesn’t mean it wouldn’t end up being a good draft, but it definitely would not inspire a lot of confidence that tipping the whole McNabb boat over was worth it.

likeing the picks

We could use some help back there in the secondary so our first couple of picks in this are are good, i still think that we maybe need to go after Mays, his coverage is questionable, but we have the def coach to make that alot better. Haden would be the best choice if we could get him.
