49ers are stacking up
The Niners already have a pretty good team, and I think they have a real good shot at making the playoffs this year. They need a QB, but they just added former Ohio State stand-out Ted Ginn Jr for 5th round pick. Even though he has been a bust, considering he was a first rounder(If I recall correctly), he still has some decent stats. He never has broken the 1000yd mark but he does legitimately stretch the field. He has a bunch of big TD catches.

Ginn is terrible. Awful. The only reason I’d take Ginn over someone like Reggie Brown is his return skills. Just based on receiving skills, I’d rather have Reggie Brown.
He can stretch the field, but his hands are worse than Braylon Edwards’.
I don’t know about the Brown thing. He has had some deep bombs, that is something that you have to respect. A good burner 5th WR/PR for a 5th? I think the niners got a good deal. That’s just me though.
He has been a bust though. They totally missed with their initial pick though.
The niners did get a good deal as far as draft compensation goes but you have to factor in his salary in order to get the big picture. He was the 9th overall pick and was signed to a $19.6 mil contract. He’s still due $1.03 mil for this year and $1.4 mil for next. Not what I would want my team to pay for a 5th WR/PR.

The Niners absolutely blew it...
Donovan McNabb would have been a phenomenal fit in San Fran. That team would immediately be the clear-cut favorite to win that division if they made a move for him, and a scary team to face in the playoffs.
Instead, they slog along with Alex Smith at QB. Good job, Niners.
I feel you. I said that before we traded Don.
I don’t know what they were thinking. Smith really isn’t all that. I don’t know what it is about the Urban Myer QBs.
i don't know what they were thinking....
i thought for sure they were the clear-cut favorite to land him. i guess that’s why i’m not an expert. i really don’t get the decision to go with alex smith. he started to show a little promise towards the end of last season, but singletary has entirely too much faith in the guy.

He has really
Turned that team into a threat in a weak division.
I am a bear of very little brains and big words bother me.
How can you fear a team with Alex “Baby Hands” Smith as their starting QB? The guy cant even grip a Nerf ball.

u know they use his hands for the burger king

Where one era ends, another begins
HONESTLY
ginn messed up when he hurt his ankle in the last ohio state game he played. he was wayyyyyyyyyyyy faster than he is right now but 1 injury can do that
The just added a good PR and 4th WR for only a 5th.
They also have 2 first round picks. I think there team isn’t all that bad to begin with as well. I guess they ain’t "stacking up like the 07 Pats, but they are very close to improving in my opinion.
i think they've been slowly getting better as you said
i wouldnt say adding a 1st round bust is stacking up though… hes purely a good S/T . he wont add much in the WR game.
E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!!!
who the fuck
did tedd ginn have throwing too him? please….and he was the only decent reciever on the team. he’s now in a a lineup with crabtree ,josh morgan, and vernon davis….if smith improves on his game a little, the niners are going to be monsters…don’t forget about patrick willis on d either…dude is a 1 man army…i like this move a lot for the niners and for a 5th round pick, he’s worth the special teams alone…
Is Alex Smith a significant improvement over Chad Henne and Chad Pennington?
Not really.

Kinda what I was sayin
They could be good. Especially since they have a good enough D, and Frank Gore. They could end up being a threat.
We don’t know what are secondary is going to look like yet, but Crabtree, Bruce, Davis, Morgan, and Ginn, sounds formidable to me.
Nate Davis? Bruce is getting waay up there in age, but he can still catch and has experience so there’s that, and don’t forget Glen Coffee as their second back, the kid’s not bad.
With the way the seahawks are managing their team and how the cards dropped half their star players, I’m pretty comfortable saying the niners are gonna win their division this season, but that’s not saying much.

Ginn hasn't been a total bust
He’s a lot like Braylon Edwards; his hands suck. But he’s fast, fairly big, and if he could catch the ball he’d be very dangerous. But I agree with people above, Bess is way better than him. In fact, Bess is one of the top 5 slot WRs in the league, IMO.

I saw a little bit of him when I was following some ‘phins games for fantasy football (….), the guy’s alright and can definitely see improvement, but the biggest thing is he’s got terrific hands. I barely saw him drop any passes thrown his way.
The ‘phins’ offense looks pretty nasty, if only their defense was any good..

nfp: I assume your talking about Bess, right? Because Ginn doesn’t have good hands at all lol. I really like Bess. Luckily we have Avant, but Bess is great in the slot. He’s got sticky hands and decent speed and is very intelligent.
jjrome: If you’re talking Ginn, I think he’s alright. He has mental lapses and such but all-in-all his hands are the only major problem. Bess runs great routes and he’s very bright. He’s built like a RB too so he can make plays after the catch.

Word. I saw a bit of him (bess) when he was playing in Hawaii and the guy flat out played. Don’t know too much about him (character-wise), but from the way he plays seems like a good kid. And I gotta give credit to tuna man(parcells), that guy knows what he’s doing..
