Reggie Brown, enjoy Tampa Bay!

Recently tweeted by Adam Schefter:

Filed to ESPN: Philadelphia traded wide receiver Reggie Brown to Tampa Bay for the Buccaneers sixth-round pick in 2011.

Star-divide

The Eagles are making moves ... finally got somebody to eat that salary. I guess by re-signing Avant for 5 years, they pretty much let Brown know he's got no future here.

We got a Sixth-rounder, eh? Maybe we can draft the next Brandon Gibson with it? Maybe? Maybe?

not too heartbroken considering we saved money from reggie. But now who we looking to pay, who we looking to get?

I feel kinda bad taking a 6th rounder. I would have offered our 6th to just take him from us.

Honestly, I can’t say I saw this coming. I’m a little emotional! :-) Hopefully he does have a successful career in TB though!

I always felt Reggie was better then people gave him credit for I think he had the misfortune of following T.O. as the #1 guy for us. That said I hope he does well in TB. Also does this mean we hang onto Curtis ugh

kevin curtis salary

this is off rotoworld.com 3/15/2007: Signed a six-year, $32 million contract. The deal contains $9.5 million guaranteed, including a $2.5 million signing bonus and a $1.5 million roster bonus in the second year. Roughly $3 million is available in likely-to-be-earned incentives based on receptions. The contract contains an annual Pro Bowl escalator of $200,000. 2009: $1.9 million, 2010: $3.4 million (+ $1 million roster bonus due in 6/1), 2011: $4 million, 2012: $6 million, 2013: Free Agent

wow

time to restructure, trade or cut him. No way he should be making 4.4 million this year. I like Curtis, when he is on the field. But he has not done anything to warrant the amount he is scheduled to make this year.

Not a lot of savings

But for a guy who was a 4th-5th WR, his contract was out of whack. Eagles saved about $2.5M if they had just cut him.

by MG77 on Mar 8, 2010 8:49 PM EST up reply actions

They didn’t save anything over just cutting him. They just got a sixth-rounder for next year. If they had cut him, they would still be responsible for the bonus money they’re paying him.

by yomjoseki on Mar 8, 2010 8:53 PM EST up reply actions

They saved more

If you take what his cap value was the next 2 years vs. just cutting him outright this offseason. #6 round pick is marginal value at best.

by MG77 on Mar 8, 2010 9:08 PM EST up reply actions

They didn’t save anything by trading him today or cutting him today.

by yomjoseki on Mar 8, 2010 9:11 PM EST up reply actions

Given the likliehood his replacment will be cheaper

Yeah they likely are going to save money. That was my point and sorry for the confusion.

by MG77 on Mar 8, 2010 10:42 PM EST up reply actions

Didn’t a 6 round pick get us Maclin last year? Granted it was only 2-4 spots that we moved up, but still. Personally, I’m thrilled to get a 6th for him…didn’t think we could get a damn thing for him.

He was expensive and sucked.

by jdavis89 on Mar 8, 2010 8:38 PM EST reply actions

Sweeet!

Just got the text from PE.com. I’m surprised we got any kind of value for him, his contract is pretty terrible. Hopefully we can find another WR who slips in the draft like Gibson did.

by BreckBirds20 on Mar 8, 2010 8:38 PM EST reply actions

whose next to be cut...

Kevin Curtis and Darren Howard please. But I don’t think we should cut Curtis (or attempt to trade), until we get 1 more VET at WR.

by birdsfaninsc on Mar 8, 2010 8:41 PM EST reply actions

Howard doesn't need to be cut

just restructured. he has a lot of value for what we use him for. Just his contract is out of whack with his role.

I agree with that I guess

the only reason I’d figured him on the cut list is because of what he was making. But he has to be near the tail end of that deal, and he does seem to do fine when he plays. He’s not dynamic, but he doesn’t suck.

They will probably keep Kevin Curtis….he is a reid favorite. If he fully recovers and it look like he may have… he can still be a good player for us. I say keep him.

At least Javon Walker had injury to blame.

Basically he had a great rookie year, and has been plagued by injuries and inconsistency ever since. The past two years, he’s been penciled in as a starter, gotten injured in camp, and lost his job to a younger guy. He has good physical tools when healthy, and could certainly benefit from a change of scenery. In other words, he could be very good, but I wouldn’t hold your breath.

Bucs get a veteran WR with 4-5 years of solid production left in the tank (hopefully) and we get a 6th round pick, i think both sides can be happy.

And I can’t root against the Bucs unless we’re playing them, they’re my grandpa’s favorite team, haha.

I actually agree with you, to a certain extent

I think 1,000 yards receiving is a bit high, but I honestly think Brown can put up 800 yards receiving in the right situation.

Sometimes it's just fun to take the family for a spin around the lake in the old boat. Even if it's not your family or your boat, and they're screaming for you to stop.

You mean like he did as a rookie?

Anyway, who knows if he still has it in him. He could be a steal for you guys. He definitely wasn’t going to accomplish anything here with his attitude, though. That will likely change now that he has a chance to contribute. He’s gotta be stoked for that.

Just a reminder

Reggie Brown is the one who threw his helmet into Stewart Bradley’s knee on an end around in training camp. Reggie Brown was the one who ruined our season before it even began. Reggie Brown is the reason why Brandon Gibson is in St. Louis now.

Thanks Reggie. Thanks for everything.

by ZorkNemesis on Mar 8, 2010 9:35 PM EST reply actions

Another reminder

Thanks to Reggie, Jeremiah Trotter had to tackle Zach Miller instead of Stewart Bradley, which ultimately resulted in a score and an Eagles loss. If it wasn’t for Reggie, we would have clinched the NFC East and #2 seed in week 16.

Share your favorite Reggie memories here.

My favorite Reggie moment was the one where he was open 15 yards down the field and dropped the pass. Remember that time Reggie Brown tried to run down the sidelines and had no separation from his defender? Good times.

by ZorkNemesis on Mar 8, 2010 9:41 PM EST up reply actions

my favorite it when he ran to the one yard line and caught the ball as time expired instead of running into the endzone before making his cut.

by eagleyosh on Mar 8, 2010 10:03 PM EST up reply actions

God, don't remind me of that

That was a heartbreaking loss. We had control of our own destiny and blew it against the Skins. Thankfully, it eventually led to 44-6 ass-whooping of the Boys a week later.

a 2011 6th..

wow…that’s pretty shitty…that’s bout a low as compensation they could have gotten, outside of a 2012 7th. Even G-Lew got us a 5th last year.

"Eagles fans are a passionate group who love their team," said McNabb, "if not the actual players. It's not like winning a Super Bowl before the first month of the season is the hardest thing they've ever asked of me. That'd be all those times they asked me to go kill myself."

WTF

I am not going to praise Reggie Brown but people are acting like the Eagles got rid of one of the worst contracts in the NFL or traded away some horrible malcontent.

Brown was one of the few younger players that the Eagles have locked up the last several years who didn’t really pan out. He is certainly overpaid for a backup WR but this isn’t one of the best-paid WRs in the league either. He also wasn’t a guy who ran his mouth or was a problem in the locker room. If anything, he supposedly started to actually ‘get it’ the past year or so by showing up to practice, doing what the coaches wanted, and generally displaying a solid effort.

by MG77 on Mar 8, 2010 11:23 PM EST reply actions

He had a shitty attitude and didn’t try to hide it. Then he seemed ungrateful he wasn’t handed playing time after he didn’t play very well.

I am the people's troll :3™

by yomjoseki on Mar 8, 2010 11:27 PM EST up reply actions

That changed

He did have that shitty attitude through the ’08 season and got buried as a result. Really fell off the depth chart. That supposedly changed a bit last year and Reid moved him up the depth chart as a result.

He was a little disappointed I remember in training camp at not having a real opportunity to compete for a top spot but not everywhere near what he was in ’08.

by MG77 on Mar 9, 2010 12:16 AM EST up reply actions

True
Brown was one of the few younger players that the Eagles have locked up the last several years who didn’t really pan out.

I guess the jury is still out on Shawn Andrews, but otherwise that’s been a great strategy for the Iggles.
