Around SBN: Raiders' GM Begins The Purge

Vick remains (for now)

Eagles owe a $1.5M roster bonus to Vick on March 9th and supposedly the Eagles just going to pay the man.   Several reports have the Eagles  actively shopping Vick but just haven't liked what they would have gotten in return. Frankly, I bet the Eagles are dangling for a 2nd round pick for Vick or maybe an early 3rd rounder with an additional pick or player too.

Basically comes down to a game of chicken between now and the draft.  If the Eagles move him too soon or too early, they likely don't get the kind of value they are seeking in return.  Only thing that would stun me at this point is if Vick is back next year during Week 1 in an Eagles' uniform.

My prediction

Eagles don’t get the value they are seeking and eventually wide up trading him for a mix of picks – a mid-round pick this year (3rd-4th round) and another pick next year (say 4th) that is conditional depending upon his performance next year that could move up as high as a 2nd round.

by MG77 on Mar 7, 2010 5:30 PM EST reply actions

I'm guessing we hold him past the draft

and trade him for 2011 picks from a team that didn’t get a good QB in the draft

by Smallbugger on Mar 7, 2010 6:55 PM EST up reply actions

You’re overvaluing him a lot. Low third, high fourth if we’re lucky.

by yomjoseki on Mar 7, 2010 5:33 PM EST reply actions

Maybe

I still think the Eagles settle on something like a 3rd/4th rounder this year and something conditional next year. The 2nd rounder would only be if he is a 16-week starter and approaches some of the numbers of Vick of old.

Stick to me a final one – 3rd/4th this year and a 5th next year (conditional).

by MG77 on Mar 7, 2010 5:35 PM EST up reply actions

No one is going to surrender two picks for a 29 year old QB who spent 2 years in jail and one on someone’s bench (who wasn’t even a top 10 starter before that happened)

by yomjoseki on Mar 7, 2010 5:38 PM EST up reply actions

You make some reasonable counter arguments but a 4th round pick or 5th round pick aren’t that for a backup QB who has plenty of starting experience & has the kind of cache that Vick does (good or bad).

Maybe I am wrong and teams only think he is worth a marginal pick (5th/6th round) but the QB FA market sucks this year too.

by MG77 on Mar 7, 2010 5:43 PM EST up reply actions

Conditional pick

To be of any value to the Eagles would require that Vick start and pick up some decent numbers at QB. If not, it would likely be a 5th/6th round pick if a team has to give up a 3rd/4th rounder this year.

by MG77 on Mar 7, 2010 5:46 PM EST up reply actions

Another reason I don't want him on the sidelines next year

From just about every indication, the man either wants a starting job or at least the very real opportunity to compete for one in training camp. I don’t see how that happens in Philly regardless of what happens with McNabb.

Basically adds up to a guy who I see being a malcontent and reverting back to the what is best for Vick attitude. Just one of those guys that if I am Reid/Banner I move even if clearly weakens my team a bit because of what he might be like next year with no/limited playing time again.

Yeah, and he comes here and gets less yards than Westbrook ever did because we’re not going to give him 270 carries a season. Westbrook not getting 1000 yards is a result of him getting 250 carries ONE time in his career.

Marshawn

is not the type of player we need. yes he has all the ability in the world. A true running back. The Eagles have no use a for a true blue running black. Our Backs need to be able to catch. Fast and elusive. We also don’t need his off the field problems. Ya know there are a bunch of morons in the NFL. I know that a lot of times, the situation that arises is not even there own doing, but damn…you are getting paid millions of dollars. Don’t put yourself in the position to get in troublesome situations.
You want to see strippers? Hire them to come to your house to strip and tape the whole affair. See, you ain’t getting into a fight with a random person who wants to see how big your balls are. You don’t have to worry about being framed by one of the girls, cause you have evidence on tape.
You want to own a gun. Go through the legal channels. You are a millionaire. The sherrif office will grant your request for a permit to carry for self defense reasons. See, now you are protected and being legal.
You want to dance the night away? Throw a party at your mansion. You are mad paid. You can afford to hire a DJ, get some drinks and food, and whatever else your heart desires. No need to go to a club, where people are going to notice you and someone is going to get a little to familiar, which is going to end up in some type of shit goin down. or go to a top notch club. Those places are designed especially for celebrities. They’re job is to keep you out of trouble. I get it, you go to these places to fulfill your ego. Call your agent. he will gladly tell you how incredible you are.
Anyway, Marshawn is one of these guys above, that needs to fulfill the ego but is not smart enough to walk away from a hairy situation. Obviously those he surrounds himself with also aren’t really looking out for his best interest. We do not need a guy like this on our team, no matter how talented he is because our team’s chemistry is so vital to our success that any wrench like this could jimmy up the whole works.

Infact just because I call someone a “fag” or “faggot” or “gay” doesnt mean I’m bashing gay, it just means I’m calling them a “fag” or “faggot” or “gay”.

I said “I hate gays” one time, I got my ass chewed out by Eaglesgrl5 and have since then stopped with that aspect of things on here..

BTW this is america, I’m free to believe what I want, If I think gayness is wrong then so be it, It doesnt make me any less of a person, and it definantly doesnt make me any worse than A theif.

If all 3 QB's are here

come training camp, there is no open competition. It’s McNabbs team. McNabb would have to throw nothing but int’s for the first 4 games before Reid even contemplated sitting him. Vick, he’s not in any equation except a trick play QB. Kolb will only get his chance if their is an injury or the above stated situation arises.

What I Think

The Eagles pay the guy his 1.5 million. They let him play in the preseason to show other teams what ried has taught him. My thought is Ried is a master at making Lower end QB’s look better then what they are .Other teams realize how bad some of there QB’s are and tender a higher then normal draft pick or another player of Trade.

by greenage on Mar 7, 2010 5:54 PM EST reply actions

I'm kinda mixed right now

I dont think anybody knows how its gonna pan out. I’m mostly worried about how great it was to have a hype and focus on Philly all year last year, but I’m more worried about it being a distraction this year with Vick being antsy to be a starter again. Not gonna lie, I love seeing all 3 of them in Green, but good things are never meant to last. The ONLY way I see this being a benefit to us is either A) getting some ridiculous offer for Vick (which doesnt seem likely yet) or B) D-Nabb taking a major injury early in the year and having a serious showdown of 2 great QBs (speculation on both #4 and #7, but really only in this scenario will you see what either is made of ).

by SFCEAGFAN on Mar 8, 2010 4:53 AM EST reply actions

As you all say

Three into one starting spot does not work.

If Vick is with you on opening day will Reid make more use of the Wildcat with Vick at the expense of disrupting McNabb’s rhythm and does Kolb hold a clipboard for the entire year.

The Eagles know with no change in the CBA that they can tender Kolb at the end of 2010. The issue becomes McNabb and his contract – Reid in his last statement seemed to hint (maybe as part of the smokescreen) that McNabb will get an extension. That could be true or bluff and only the FO will know that.

As for a team looking in that needs a QB they will see the Eagles have to make a decision if they are going to let one go. If they think one will go and in all probability it is Vick why not lowball any bid if you think the Eagles will let him go anyway!

I think

it is a lock out so that the players do not get paid.

That does not mean the contracts are terminated because if it did just imagine the free for all in 2012 if every player was a FA – it would be a fantasy draft to end all fantasy drafts!
