After Peppers, Aaron Kampman is regarded as the second-best defensive end available, followed by Kyle Vanden Bosch. But one league source told me that Kampman may be headed to Philadelphia.

I think I might be more interested in Vanden Bosch…

by JasonB on Mar 4, 2010 5:20 PM EST reply actions

Hes had 7.5 sacks in the past two seasons

Not sure about QB hurries or anything like that, but looks like at 32 hes on the down side of his career

Vanden Bosch was never really an elite pass rusher though. He had a couple big sack years, but he’s always been a more all around end. Great run stopper. Could compliment what we have better. Let Parker become a situational rusher.

Plus, he has working knees which is a big plus for me.

Again, he’s not a big impact move but I think he makes the team better. If Kampman is healthy he could be an impact type guy, but I question the effectiveness of an older guy with a torn ACL.

by JasonB on Mar 4, 2010 5:26 PM EST up reply actions

We don’t need a run stopper but a good pass rusher. Trust me, Vandenbosch is not good. He only had a couple good years because of Haynesworth. Now, he is on the downside of his career and is actually a worse option than Parker.

I think we absolutely do need a run stopper.

by JasonB on Mar 4, 2010 5:37 PM EST up reply actions

Eagles are 9th in rush defense compared to 17th in pass defense.

by Route36 on Mar 4, 2010 5:47 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

We went 20+ games without allowing a 100 yard rusher.

by Route36 on Mar 4, 2010 5:49 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

That doesn't mean much anymore

Most teams use a dual back system and more and more teams are becoming pass first. Jason is right, we definitely need someone who canplay the run too. I think we need a guy who can get after the QB a little more than VB though

by Joe_D on Mar 4, 2010 5:50 PM EST up reply actions

Case in point

The Saints game. They ran all over us and didn’t have a 100 yard rusher. So did the Raiders and Chargers.

LT had 96 yards in that game… Yeah, it kept our 100 rusher streak alive but that doesn’t mean we stopped the run.

by JasonB on Mar 4, 2010 5:52 PM EST up reply actions

To be fair, I certainly don’t blame our run defense issues solely on the DE position. I think LB and DT had as much to do with that as anything… but if they added a run stopper anywhere i wouldn’t be upset.

by JasonB on Mar 4, 2010 5:57 PM EST up reply actions

That’s fine, but we got run all over against the Cowboys.

by JasonB on Mar 4, 2010 5:49 PM EST up reply actions

Our linebackers and safeties struggled with the run. Our D-line is terrific at it.

Bye 36, you will be missed...

by Route36 on Mar 4, 2010 6:00 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

No it’s not. It really was not last year.

If your safeties are struggling with the run, that means your D-line wasn’t doing the job.

by JasonB on Mar 4, 2010 6:08 PM EST up reply actions

You can't go by this years stats at all with anything

I’m half agreeing with you I think we need someone who can rush the passer more than anything. But the amount of weak teams we played skewed our stats. Dallas had NO problem running all over us and a couple of those relaly big plays came from the outside.

by Joe_D on Mar 4, 2010 5:49 PM EST up reply actions

Oh fuck me, I'm agreeing with Joe_D

This year was somewhat of an anomaly. I think being healthy will solidify the run defense.

We put up good numbers all over but I don’t think we had a good defense. We got a lot of turnovers and sacks, but gave up way too many yards and points in comparison. Like I said, this will improve naturally as a result of being healthy.

by yomjoseki on Mar 4, 2010 6:01 PM EST up reply actions

Bradley will certainly help in that regard.

But Bunk & Patterson were healthy and those two didn’t play as well as they did in 08-09

by JasonB on Mar 4, 2010 6:08 PM EST up reply actions

you have to wonder how much of this is on mcdermott

I just dont see how many players (despite injuries) didnt perform as well as last year

I’d be OK with Vanden Bosch if that’s what he was brought here for. Maybe a low money deal to be the run stopping end that Abiamiri was supposed to be. That would be OK, but they’d still need to find a pass rusher, IMO.

by zfg on Mar 4, 2010 5:42 PM EST up reply actions

No way.

Vanden Bosch is a bum. Anyone else notice that he played like shit after fatty left Tennessee. I wouldn’t mind Kampman at all. We could probably get him cheep after tearing his ACL and if he got back to close of what he was before the 3-4 switch, we would get a steal.

Good, I like Kampman better, his knee was hurt early,

I think its a different situation than Stacy.

Andrews sisters are fat and somewhat lazy...

Kampman is a beast with a motor that never stops during a game. We wouldn’t have to worry about effort. He’s the type of player we usually fall in love with in Philly

by Smallbugger on Mar 4, 2010 5:47 PM EST up reply actions

Well

He may have a non stop motor, but is it still at full strength. If he didn’t have that ACL tear then I wouldn’t mind, if he didn’t have that ACL tear at 30 I wouldn’t mind. But I have my worries about him. We may not have to worry about his effort, but would we have to worry about his production? I mean he only had 2 seasons with double digit sacks and that was in his prime.

by macjack09 on Mar 4, 2010 5:51 PM EST up reply actions

kampman had his injury a little earlier than than stacy. it also helps that kampman is about 60 lbs lighter than stacy. i’m not saying he’ll definitely be 100 percent come july, but he could recover faster than stacy

by bula412 on Mar 4, 2010 6:04 PM EST up reply actions

Oh

And remember the Andrews are paid to be fat. If you can find me an offensive lineman with a 6 pack then you found an offensive lineman on steroids. And like I keep saying, I have respect and hope for Shawn because I know the kind of damage a back injury can leave.

by macjack09 on Mar 4, 2010 5:54 PM EST up reply actions

Stacy got hurt week 15 or 16, Kampman got hurt I november-ish

he’s got more time to recover.. Also you have to factor in that he’s not as large as Stacy and that does wonders for someone recovering from a knee injury.

by wild_eagle on Mar 4, 2010 9:44 PM EST up reply actions

So pretty much saying

After Peppers, there is a significant drop off

I like Kampman, but the ACL tear is at an age where it could show significant damage. Kampman is 31 this year. I don’t know.

by macjack09 on Mar 4, 2010 5:33 PM EST reply actions

Yes, there is a major dropoff. If Kampman hadn’t been hurt, I’m sure he would definitely be getting decent interest.

by JasonB on Mar 4, 2010 5:38 PM EST up reply actions

he is still better than parker….

by Eaglesfan10 on Mar 4, 2010 5:40 PM EST reply actions

He still WAS better than Parker*… before he tore his ACL at age 30 and all.

  • Parker isn’t a bad player. He’s a situational guy, and a pretty good one. Not his fault we don’t have a 3 down DE across from Cole.

by zfg on Mar 4, 2010 5:44 PM EST up reply actions

i wouldnt mind it

Peppers would be great but lets face it, its gonna cost us an arm and a leg to get him (most likely). Lets see how this plays out. Im cracking a beer at 12:01, sitting at my computer while watching NFL Live and stabbing my Tony Romo voodoo dolll

I doubt that

I don’t think Kampman commands a ton of money..

by JasonB on Mar 4, 2010 5:53 PM EST up reply actions

the thing is why rush to sign a guy with an acl tear?

why not throw your cash at pepper or vanden bosh or clark or taylor and see if they bite.

by NJEagle on Mar 4, 2010 10:28 PM EST up reply actions

i don’t see the birds getting in a bidding war with the skins. the eagles will only pay peppers what they think he’s worth. the redskins will pay whatever it takes

No

Not Kampman. Not Vanden Bosch. Peppers.

"Backs in the 'I'...First and 10...McNabb, play action. Is back again. He is looking..he is going deep. He wants DeSean Jackson..who HAS IT!!! HE HAS IT!!! AND STEPPED INTO THE ENDZONE!! He took it away from the defender!! He took it away from Dominique Rogers-Cromarte, and ran into the endzone!!"

I’m sick of giving these guys with ACL tears chances and being let down. Do we think we’ll get this guy for cheap because he’s coming off an injury and doesn’t want to waste the time fighting for Peppers?
