Chris Gocong to be tendered at 3rd round level
It has been odd that little to no news has leaked about the Eagles plans for their 10 restricted free agents. We learned a week ago from Drew Rosenhaus that the team wouldn't tender TE Alex Smith but they would tender Max Jean-Gilles. Gilles will reportedly tendered at the 4th round level(his original draft spot). We also know they're working on a contract extension with Leonard Weaver. The latest bit of news is that Chris Gocong, who struggled with injuries and simply not playing well last year will be tendered.
Gocong is expected to receive either the low tender or original draft tender by Thursday’s deadline. Both would pay him a $ 1.176 million salary for 2010 and give the Eagles the right to match any offer from other teams. The original draft tender would also give the Eagles a third-round pick.

How old is that TV?
"I hate listening to people's dreams. It is like flipping through a stack of photographs. If I'm not in any of them and nobody is having sex, I just don't care. "
Oh holy crap. I didn’t even realize it was a tv. I thought it was a fancy cooler or something. Good lord that is old…

Turn around, Chris. The TE is going ‘that’ way.

This is what confuses me. Give Gocong to a 3-4 team, turn him into an outside rush-linebacker and I think he’d do pretty well. He’s just not on the right defense to make use of what he’s good at. And I feel like we all knew this when he was drafted.

Fear not JIBTA...
Restricted free agent tenders aren’t guaranteed, so he still has an uphill climb to make the team. It makes perfect sense to tender him and hope some team is dumb enough to part with a 3 for him.
Can somebody tell me..
Why a team wouldn’t want to just put a 1st round tender on whoever they want? Does it give the player more leverage in contractual negotiations?
Just trying to get a feel for how this whole process works.
I'm not sure
but I think teams only have a certain number of tenders to give out for different rounds.

I can’t really answer this with any sort of level of expertise… but my feel on the whole tender thing is some guys are tendered at lower levels, because
A. It’s less money.
and
B. The lower the level of tender the higher the likelihood that another team gives you a draft pick for that player.
For instance… I get the feeling that the Eagles would be happy to get a 3rd round pick for Chris Gocong. They know for a fact that a team won’t give up a 1st round pick for him, so what’s the point of paying him more money than you need to.
To your (A)
Is it that the buying team has to pay the player related to the value of his tender? and/or if noone buys then the tendering team must pay the player relating to where they tendered him at? I figured it’d work somewhat like that.. but not sure…
The team offering the contract can offer whatever contract they want. The tender only affects what draft pick they have to surrender. If a team wants to dispose of a RFA, they will tender them low and hope someone offers a better contract. If they want to keep the player, they take a calculated risk and tender him where they think no one will offer a pick.
I am the people's troll :3™
I dont feel like looking this up so correct me if im wrong. Since there is no cap this year, that will make Weaver a RFA right? Because if he is an URFA, its getting awful close to free agency and he’s not under a longterm contract yet. Im not too worried yet but if we cant get a deal done, He better get atleast a 2nd round tender. I think many teams would give up a 3rd for a FB at his calibar.
Thanks. I had a good feeling he was. Wouldnt they have to tender him or get a deal done before FA starts though because i thought if you werent tendered in the RFA signing period, you could hit the open market.
they would definitely put a tender on him and it would probably be a 1 and 3

but i dont think they would even go that route
I think they want to get a long term deal done, especially with Westbrook gone.

I dont think they want to tender him either
With free agency starting tomorrow, wouldnt it be probable that we hear he gets extended sometime today? I dont think there is even 1% chance that we let him test the FA market.
Yeah..
A long term with weaver is gonna get done. And yo eaglesgrl I jus graduated basic about a month ago but I’m still stuck in lackland and I’m prolly gonna be here for atleast 3 or 4 more weeks before I move on to Randolph then to Creech.

I doubt Gocong makes the team...
Any of these upcoming rookie linebackers would be better than him, as proven by Fokou last season.
Bye 36, you will be missed...
Fokou
Another guy who is vastly overrated on here. He started last year only because of desperation and injuries. Likely back only because the Eagles have him signed to cheap dollars and Eagles will already have to spend some bucks at LB if they sign a veteran FA or use a higher-draft round pick on a LB. Plus I also bet they will resign Jordan too.
damn!!
I missed the tender guesses on my predictions. I had them cutting Gilles. This is my first time I ever paid attention to tenders. But it makes a lot of sense to tender guys that would make teams secure depth.
The is the first time you ever paid attention to tenders before because this is the first uncapped year in over a decade. typically, there might be 1 or 2 RFA’s per season.
Doubt Gocong is back either way.
I would be even more stunned if he even in the running for a starting job next year in camp. Gocong has some value as a backup and might even bring something more to the table in a different scheme. It isn’t in a 4-3 scheme though or anything the Eagles’ run on defense.
there was supposedly..
interest in Gocong from other teams, i hope someone grabs him. I’d really like the Eagles to bring in Kirk for a third, it would be a nice swap.

interest in gocong?
are the calgary roughriders looking for a SLB? the idea of someone coveting the “defensive fullback” makes my head spin.

supposedly...

Obviously sounds speculative…but i hope there’s some truth to it. A third for Morrison is great value, he’s perfect for the SAM. It would be the greatest production we’ve gotten from Gocong.
