The Linc - Even Roy Halladay is talking about Donovan McNabb

Phil Sheridan: Phils' Halladay knows how McNabb feels | Philadelphia Inquirer | 03/26/2010
Roy Halladay has been on the road that Donovan McNabb may be traveling soon. He was the face of a franchise, the subject of intense trade rumors that left him exhausted and disappointed. Finally, after 12 years, Halladay was traded from Toronto and the only organization he had known, and given the fresh start he felt he needed in Philadelphia.

Source: Rumors of Donovan McNabb's possible trade are not influencing Brett Favre - ESPN
Quarterback Brett Favre is aware Donovan McNabb would potentially be an ideal replacement for him as Minnesota's starting quarterback if Favre decides not to return in 2010, according to a prominent Vikings source.

49ers' new triggerman: No on McNabb; Alex Smith is our guy - San Jose Mercury News
Trent Baalke, the 49ers' new point man for personnel decisions, has a few things in common with predecessor Scot McCloughan. That includes strong support for incumbent quarterback Alex Smith. In his first media session since inheriting the role of the triggerman for 49ers player decisions, Baalke on Friday endorsed Smith as the starter and ruled out trying to trade for Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb.

Eagles' Trade Not Expected Until at Least Next Week

Eagles fans, take the weekend off. Stop scouring the internet for the latest trade rumors regarding your quarterbacks. Why? Because a league source has informed CSN’s Derrick Gunn that no deal is expected to happen for at least the next three to four days.

A scouting report on Brandon Jacobs - NFC East Blog - ESPN
"He runs very high, has a high center of gravity and is a massive target for his opponent to smack," Williamson writes. "Of course he initiates an awful lot of contact and never was the most agile of runners. Even for the majority of his college career at Auburn, Jacobs didn't carry the load. I am not so sure that he is equipped to be a 20-plus carries per game running back over the course of a grueling season. I fear we are witnessing the beginning of the end of his career. Backs like him just don't last."

Mailbag: McNabb fallout continues - NFC West Blog - ESPN
ESPN's Mike Sando discusses the McNabb situation.

Reports say Vikings are McNabb's first choice if Eagles trade him - TwinCities.com
f the Philadelphia Eagles trade quarterback Donovan McNabb, he would prefer it be to the Vikings, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported Friday, citing sources close to the situation. And ESPN.com reported that McNabb "has told his friends for weeks" that he wants to reunite with Vikings coach Brad Childress, his former offensive coordinator in Philadelphia.

Alex Smith must be one hell of a guy. Because I never seen a first round bust last so long with their original team. And they could’ve cut him already – he took a paycut before last training camp just to stay on the team.

Wonder what he is doing to keep so much trust among his coaches…

RIP Jim Johnson, best ever.

not to mention the fact that

with arizona declining and the rams and seahawks not set just yet, this could be a grand opportunity. Imagine mcnabb with guys like vernon davis, michael crabtree, frank gore, a solid D and a draft ahead of them…really stupid decision on their part.

I care enough. I just felt that if you were going to try to cut down my viewpoint as if it was unjust, then you would at least respond back when I virtually eliminated the value of what you said.
I guess I just helped you put the Imp back into impotent.

Congratulation…you beat a couple of bad examples. You must feel proud of yourself, Capt. Internet Tough Guy. “put the Imp back into impotent”. How old are you anyway?

Oh, and anyway you cut it…it’s idiotic trading your 25 years old QB that you put three years into grooming, shows potential when given starting opportunity, and is expect to be your starting QB within the near future. “but omfg hes not provent!!!!!!1111111” Really? EVERY QB was unproven at some point.

As for trading your 34 year old QB, who probably only has one to two year left in him, not nearly as idiotic. Especially when the Eagles’ FO could’ve sign him to a long(er) term contract last season instead of simply guaranteeing rest of his contract if they really wanted him past 2010.

RIP Jim Johnson, best ever.

internet tough guy? Doubtful. I just feel that if you’re opening the door for a discussion, you shouldnt just disappear when you didnt get the response you wanted. Thats all….
As for your view on McNabb…i hear you. And i understand the logic. I just wanted to write that other post to maybe open up a few eyes to a different side. I tried to build a case using a few logical points, and you only combatted those points an an ill thought-out example that had no merrit.

I think its only fair that you then explain how last year was McNabb’s best statistical season. You said it was multiple times.

So you’re saying that dumping mcnabb after his best statistical season is wise?
McNabb puts up his best statistical year in 2009
yea. but name me one other QB in history that was yanked from his team after his best statistical season?

RyanGiggs11 then at one point said

Is this the 2004 offseason, because I missed where he threw 30+ TDs with under 10 INTs and 4000ish yards last season?

You’ve yet to respond to that.

and to that i say that it was technically his his 2nd best statistical season, while leading the Eagles to their highest scoring offense in history.
He still has had 2 of his best 3 years in 2008 and 2009.

and although that particular statement that i made was off by 1 season, it doesnt change the fact that comparing Favre and Montana trade situation to McNabbs are unjust.

oh…and i like being witty in my posts. I’m 27 years old and the “imp back into impotent” comment was for comedic relief. i thought it was comical…..

As for the “every QB is unproven at some time” remark. I agree. It’s just not protocol to replace an already proven QB, who likely has some good football years ahead of him, with the unproven QB.

You’re going to be impossible to argue with on this topic. I dont hate Kolb, but you hate McNabb so theres no way that i’l ever be able to change your mind. I prefer to not even try to climb that mountain

Hm, very well. I just took that as an attempt to be an ass more so than a joke.

As for the "every QB is unproven at some time" remark. I agree. It’s just not protocol to replace an already proven QB, who likely has some good football years ahead of him, with the unproven QB.

At some point, though, you’re going to need to see the unproven QB play instead of just let him ride the bench his entire career. Should we stick with a 34 year old QB, who hasn’t won a Super Bowl, his fault or not, or see what the next guy has?

Look I absolutely understand the logic behind moving on from McNabb and starting Kolb. Obviously McNabb is aging, and his days are numbered. I just feel that the past 3 years have gone very differently than the Eagles FO would have expected. McNabb has played well and continued at a high level….and now its a sticky situation. They’ve been able to avoid any controversy up until now…but the crossroads are pretty much here and theres no more “deal with it next year” attitude.
I also want to note that i am about 80% sure McNabb is gone this offseason. I cant deny the likelihood, i just enjoy debating and hoping that my 20% holdout comes through.

We should trade Kolb for Steve Nash...

…or a new zamboni for the Flyers.

...But if he pulls the rug on his quarterback, Reid must do it knowing that he let McNabb down more than McNabb ever let him down.
