Welcome to Philadelphia, Mike Bell
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Saints have decided not to match the Eagles' offer sheet on running back Mike Bell. He is now officially an Eagle.

Great Pick Up!!
Glad he’s an Eagle, this is a great pickup that will definitely add good depth to our RB corps.

Is #20 really retired?
The Eagles WILL redeem themselves in the '10-'11 season, with a win at SuperBowl 45 in Dallas!
Yeah
After Dawkins left, Laurie said that no player will wear the number 20 again as long as he owns the team.

So it’s not officially retired yet, but it might as well be.

Yeah. When I first joined, I was outtake24
Which actually has nothing to do with Sheldon Brown. It was just the screenname I used for everything. I switched to Bob_Q a few months later so it would be easier for people who know me to find me.

Meh
Just wait around until the draft or some injuries and I’m sure some team will come along offering a 3rd.

solid signing
I don’t think the world of Bell, but I think he’s got a good amount of potential, and does fit our mold somewhat… He’s a solid receiver (he has good hands, at any rate), and hits holes hard if he sees them properly. It doesn’t really matter though unless we have a dominant offensive line like we used to have.
I hope we get Iupati or someone like that.
Championship

“Boobies” definitely trumps “empire”

Never stare at the boobies, kid. Once you get caught, the game’s over. It’s called training. You know, being aware without drawing attention. You don’t think I’ve noticed those 34 C’s in the camouflage tank top setting up a tent directly to the left of us? Or how about those twin cannons hiking up a mountain ridge 50 yards due west? Or the ridge itself? Round mounds of grass shaped like… BOOBIES

Lesson #1
Peripheral vision is a part of vision that occurs outside the very center of “Boobies”. There is a broad set of non-central points in the field of “Boobies” that is included in the notion of peripheral vision. “Far peripheral” vision exists at the edges of the field of “Boobies”, “mid-peripheral” vision exists in the middle of the field of “Boobies”, and “near-peripheral”, sometimes referred to as “para-central” vision, exists adjacent to the center of “Boobies”.

Hm..
For Bye, Dawk :( he’d much rather have Hi, Bell :’(

I’ve already started to try to talk myself into it. I’m trying to convince myself that he’ll be versatile – In addition to being a 2nd RB, he could also be somewhat of a backup at FB. And I’m also trying to convince myself that he’s the real deal in short yardage situations. It’s not working so far, but I’ll get there. Baby steps.
you can do it .. watch his highlights ... not to shabby

You should talk yourself into it.
Watching him with the Saints all last year I am pleased he is an Eagle. He’s gonna be good for us and for McCoy.
Run the Ball!
Block for the Bell and the Real McCoy (or the Shady Character) with a Face Cleaver!
Serioiusly, that’s one solid signing. Now the only remaining sore needs are LB, C/RG, and FS.

I wouldn't have called RB a sore need before this.
But LB, C/RG, FS, yes. I believe the Eagles will make the right moves, however, they said yesterday the OL problem wasn’t as immediate as the outside thinks. Something along those lines, I didn’t want to go find it.

This leaves me wanting something more but at the end of the day there are not 53 better players on this roster than Mike Bell, so welcome aboard.

Good signing for you guys. I live in N.O. and watch almost as many
Saints games as Cowboys. The guy is a one cut and go RB. He is a sledgehammer at the second level.. Almost looks for a DB to run over. You guys will like him if he stays hungry.
KICK ASS every day!!!
Mixed bag
Pros:
- Gives the Eagles a veteran backup at RB
- Gives them a RB with a bit more size who likely will help this team in short-yardage situations and possibly in the red zone. That is a role I didn’t want to see McCoy used again this year and even Weaver wasn’t that well-suited for.
- Relatively injury-free history
- Contrary to some of the ridiculous claims on here that Bell will see 150 carries or more, he will have limited usage. Of course if McCoy/Weaver gets hurt, his utilization will increase but Bell isn’t going to even see 100 touches all season if they are both healthy. Basically a guy who will be seldom utilized (~5 touches a game give or take).
Cons:
- Has a reputation as being somewhat difficult to coach
- Isn’t a special teams contributor
- Isn’t a pass-catching threat so I can’t imagine he will see much time on 3rd down unless it is short yardage
Verdict:
- A stop-gap solution and nothing more. I would be surprised if Bell is here for any kind of extended period. It also wouldn’t surprise me if the Eagles take another RB in the 3rd or 4th round either if there is someone they really like who is still around and they make a trade to get an extra pick.
I don’t think the worry that Bell will get so many carries is completely unfounded. The Eagles rushed about 40 less times last year than they had the previous 3 years. Sure, perhaps LeSean McCoy gets those extra carries, but Bell will get some. When Westbrook was in his prime, Buckhalter got 70 – 90 carries. Is LeSean McCoy on that level? I not going to just assume that McCoy gets the slice of the carry pie that Westbrook got. Also, I simply don’t think Weaver will be getting as many carries as last year.
I don’t like the Bell signing, but who says he isn’t a pass catching threat? He had 20-something catches his rookie year, and he was third on the depth chart in the only other year he was used more than sparingly.
I am the people's troll :3™
Weaver likely won’t have as many carries again but the Eagles NEVER used a FB in Reid’s system before. Literally we were talking about 15-20 touches all season mainly because the FB were pretty limited (Tapeh, etc). Eagles aren’t paying Weaver that kind of money to only touch the ball that much. He probably finishes the season with 4x that amount of touches.
With both Weaver and McCoy are both more of receiving threats too than Bell. He won’t be used to catch many passes out of the backfield.
Wonder about Bell?
- Can he really block and is he able to pick up blitz packages?
- Will Reid actually run the ball a bit more if the Eagles are ahead in the 4th qtr with guys like Bell/Weaver in the backfield this season?
- Is he really a problem when it comes to coaching him?
This is what I want to know
Any idea on how good his blocking will be?
