Eagles private workout/pro day updates
With NFL draft coverage set to take over everything in the near future, I thought it would be worth checking in on a few smaller school prospects who the Eagles might be showing some interest in.
The Eagles were one of 6 teams that attended the Richmond pro day, any Richmond fans out there that might have some idea who they could be there to see?
The Eagles have reportedly invited Middle Tennessee State DE/LB Chris McCoy in for a private workout. According to Scout.com he'll visit April 8th.
A two-year starter for the Blue Raiders, the 6-foot-3, 251-pound McCoy was named the Sun Belt Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Year this past season, after he recorded 64 tackles, 20 for a loss and seven sacks. McCoy participated in the East-West Shrine Game this offseason and produced three tackles during the game. But as good as McCoy was as a senior, he didn’t receive an invitation to the NFL Scouting Combine. McCoy will compete at Middle Tennessee State’s Pro Day on March 18th and will try to elevate his late round status.
The Eagles were among 9 teams to visit the Missouri St. pro day. TE Clay Harbor and DE Mike Daniels are likely to draw their interest.

Personally, I would like to see some bigger linemen who can stand up to the bigger O-Lines in the league…

Eagles were in Richmond to see DE/LB Lawrence Sidbury Jr 6'2 265 lbs
http://blogs.nfl.com/2009/03/30/delb-sidbury-jr-brings-masses-to-richmond/
Sidbury, a two-time CAA first-team selection whose 11.5 sacks in 2008 helped the Spiders win a national championship. Sidbury lacks the bulk and strength to compete as more than a rotational pass rusher at the next level, but his upfield burst and strong performance in the national championship game against Montana (four sacks) and during the week of practice at the East-West Shrine Game secured his status as a second-day draft pick.
You're a bit late on that
The Eagles were in town to see Sidbury last year, but he was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons in the 2009 draft.
Uh...
…championship? ::::tumbleweed:::: ::::coyotes howling::::
...But if he pulls the rug on his quarterback, Reid must do it knowing that he let McNabb down more than McNabb ever let him down.

OL Matt McCracken
Is the Richmond player the Eagles were most likely looking at. He’s the only one of the bunch expected to actually get drafted. He weighs in at 6’3" 300 lbs and paved the way for UR superstar running backs Tim Hightower (Arizona Cardinals) and Josh Vaughan (Jacksonville Jaguars). He was also named to the 2009 AP FCS All-Pro First Team at left guard.
They probably also took a look at QB Eric Ward, who is sort of like a poor man’s Armanti Edwards. Check out the article I wrote on Edwards for more info.
Did Vaughn actually stick with the Jags?
Being a fellow Spider, I loved the guy — he destroyed the CAA and Montana — but last I heard he was a practice squadder, or was released outright.
He did well during the preseason
And was on their practice squad for a while, but is currently a free agent. Good to have a fellow Spider on the site!

yeah lol i just noticed that thanks i am new to this. i would have to guess then Senior OL Matt McCracken became the fourth consensus First Team All-America in school history.

There is also a rumor that Sean McDermott was at #Virginia Tech’s Pro Day and took an interest in hybrid Jason Worilds OLB
Figures
Is this team afraid to go to a pro day for an established D-1 player or are they content getting the sack leaders and interception leaders of 1-AA and various other sub divisions?
You're kidding right?
You know a guy named Brian Westbrook? 1-AA Villanova? Among others.
Besides the fact that they HAVE been to pro days for D1 players this year.
You can say Brian Westbrook and I can throw out Matt McCoy, Bryan Smith, or Joe Mays. See how easy it is to use extremes?
Matt McCoy
went to San Diego State, a division I-A school.
See how easy it is to undermine your own point?
If you seriously have a problem with the Eagles scouting dept
you seriously have a problem.
They are fantastic! Our draft record is really, really good!
Of course you’ll find guys that don’t work out, but by and large…we do our homework, big school and small…big name, and nobody…and we do it well.
"EFF YOU, WE'RE WINNING ANYWAY!!!!!!" (Bye, Dawk)
It's not news
The Eagles go to every big college teams’ pro day. They do every year.
It’s only interesting to hear when they go to workouts for these kind of prospects.
Well Matt McCoy
played D1 . . . but whatever. The point I am trying to make is that wouldn’t you be more upset with them NOT going to FCS Pro Days? How do you make a negative statement about them doing their homework? There are going to be hit or miss prospects everywhere, but the Eagles have always done well to pull players from other levels. Jamal Jackson, Herremans, off the top of my head.
Why are people down on this automatically?
The Eagles are just looking to find some ‘gems in the rough’ that they will likely have on their draft board in the 4th or late rounds. Nothing wrong with taking at look at some players that might contribute and have been overlooked.
because they simply "don't get it."
