Totally gonna happen. Definitely.

He'll fit their system better

Wouldn’t be surprised to find him to be a productive player in a 3-4 system

Thanks for the tip of the cap, and the pics of the BADDEST line I’ve ever seen… Still have a Rolled Gold pretzel poster with them that says “NOBODY GETS PAST THIS LINE”. Time to restore our D to the glory days…

I'm curious however...

if Gocong will be playing as a Rush OLB or as a TED ILB. We have seen Gocong play MLB, and not look as horrific as one might expect…possibly become another Teddy Bruschi?

Maybe we can get their 4th rounder back to make up for the one we lost in the Tapp trade.

That’s what I’m assuming we’ll get.

That'd basically be Clemons & Gocong

For Tapp & a move up in the 4th. I like the sound of that.

Please let it happen. I’ll even drive him to Cleveland for them.

not so fast...
Sounds like the Gocong deal might be on hold for now. Chances are that he will be dealt between now and the draft, but I think the Eagles and Browns are both trying to figure out exactly what they want to do before finalizing the trade. Scouts and coaches are working out players on a daily basis and that can affect the plans for next round of moves.

Fokou > Gocong?

It is funny how the universal sentiment on here seems to be that Gocong among the worst optionst at SAM either while Fokou is a guaranteed starter.

In many ways, Fokou and Gocong both have more similarities than differences. Both guys are a bit undersized to play SAM, are somewhat ‘slow’ to initially react to the play, don’t have great natural abilities to diagnosis running plays, and are supposedly guys who are pretty intelligent off the field.

Fokou is a bit faster & probably is a better option in pass coverage while Gocong is the better tackler & run-stopper at this point in his career. Neither guy is very good at rushing the passer on blitzes but you have to give Fokou more time there before really judging him.

It has been several years since the Eagles have had a quality option at SAM (Carlos Emmons) and doesn’t expect Fokou will be the ‘answer’ either. He does have a shot though if he comes to camp heavier and stronger especially with greater lower body strength.

by MG77 on Mar 20, 2010 4:54 PM EDT reply actions

Fokou's not the guaranteed starter

I think most people are expecting us to pick up a Sam or Mike early in the draft. Fokou’s projected to be depth.

About 10 minutes ago, I was pondering my own existence. Then I decided that it didn't matter.

by IronHank on Mar 20, 2010 7:12 PM EDT up reply actions

Maybe

I bet Fokou is in the mix though because the Eagles will be drafting a possible rookie to play SAM and Jordan has never started 16 G at the Mike position.

by MG77 on Mar 20, 2010 10:00 PM EDT up reply actions

Eh, uh, what?

Gocong is undersized?

He weighs 263 pounds. He’s 6’2".

That is not undersized for a linebacker.

by DSmith215 on Mar 21, 2010 1:39 AM EDT up reply actions

Ok, so he’s not bigger, but he’s pretty damn close. He’s bigger than Strahan ever was. I’d say he’s a fine size for a SAM. It’s always been his speed/decision making that has brought him down in our system. Let him go to a 3-4, he’ll probably do a lot better.

About 10 minutes ago, I was pondering my own existence. Then I decided that it didn't matter.

by IronHank on Mar 21, 2010 9:46 AM EDT up reply actions

The difference between I think is that we know all about Gocong. We’ve seen him play and we know what he is or isn’t capable of doing. He does something well and other things not so well. Fokou on the other hand is an unknown quantity really, he did somethings well but made a lot of mistakes most of us have chalked up to inexperience. If he can take those mistakes out of his game with another year here than his ceiling might be quite high but it still can’t be known at this point. I think that is what it comes down to, Gocong has plateaued into an average player, Fokou still has the opportunity to be better than that. Regardless, I still think we take a LB with one of our top three picks.

Generally agree. You know what you have with Gocong (middling player). If Fokou gets stronger and adds another 5-10 pounds of muscle, it will help him alot in the running game. I just don’t know if his reactions/decisions are good enough to start either.

He did improve alot during his 4 yrs at Maryland and it wouldn’t suprise me at all if Fokou is in the mix next year in training camp as a potential starter given the lack of stellar options the Eagles have right now.

by MG77 on Mar 20, 2010 9:59 PM EDT up reply actions

The good news is

That Fokou’s already bulking up. He’s up to about 240 now. Another 5-10 lbs (muscle) and he’ll be golden.

Gocong is a good run stopper. I do give him a lot of shit but he can stop the run. He just doesn’t fit here. A 3-4 would be ideal for him. Whatever we can get for him I would take. A fourth would be insane. But I’ll take it.

I just think this site has a good number of users who are really in touch with the way the Eagles do business, whereas most fans (of any team) thinks their team should manage a team the way you do in Madden.

Can anyone think of ONE big play Gocong made?

The only one I can think of was the play where Brandon Jacobs put himself in bad position by leaving his feet, Gocong hit him, and Jacobs fumbled. But I’m really having trouble thinking of any other plays that stand out. 3 years as an Eagle starter, one big play. That’s embarassing.

How can anyone even consider giving up a 4 for him?!? Hopefully, the Browns are dumb.

Browns aren’t going to take Vick. They already have two overpaid QBs with little talent.

Maybe the third over paid QB with little talent would be the charm?
