The Linc - McCoy wasn't happy with Westbrook release
The Canadian Press: Philadelphia Eagles sign defensive end Darryl Tapp to a three-year deal
Two days after joining the Philadelphia Eagles in a trade, Tapp signed a three-year contract on Thursday. The 25-year-old Tapp will compete for a starting spot at left defensive end after playing four seasons in Seattle. "I think a change of scenery will be good," Tapp said. "I guess last year I had 2 1/2 sacks, but honestly in my eyes, I feel like it was my best year. I had 2 1/2 sacks and 18 quarterback hits. Last year was just a difficult situation with the circumstances that we had in Seattle. So, stats don't always tell the story. It's what you see on the surface."
The700Level.com - Philly Sports & Minutiae: Keeping Both McNabb And Kolb Would Be Irresponsible
There's so much quarterback talk out there. Everybody has an opinion on what the Eagles will do, and what they should do. At this point though, nobody has a clue... but I can tell you what absolutely should not happen under any circumstances. They should not keep all three quarterbacks. In fact, forget Vick. They should not keep both Donovan McNabb and Kevin Kolb, and I do not believe for one second they will.
Eagles' McCoy on life after Westbrook | Philadelphia Daily News | 03/19/2010
McCoy, 21, said he "wasn't really happy" last month when he heard Westbrook was being released, even though his role obviously stood to expand. He felt Westbrook had helped him a lot, and he was "just getting to know" the former Villanova star.

Will the Saints match? My sense is they won’t because they have to re-sign Pierre Thomas and have $8 million tied up in Reggie Bush. Bell is a straight-line back who runs with power and is very tough. He’s not always the smartest back, but he knows how to pass protect and will not back down from a physical confrontation. He will not run to daylight, but he will run hard north and south and will never, ever go around a would-be tackler – he’ll go through him.

Why does every draft site say that Reid likes drafting O-Lineman early? In his 11 drafts so far he has only selected 3 O-Lineman in the first 2 rounds Williams, Andrews, & Justice. He likes taking them later in drafts.
Agreed
Everyone has blown Andy’s supposed lineman fetish way out of control. I read somewhere that he’s used like 30-40% of his early picks on linemen. Which is actually pretty low considering linemen take up 9 of the 22 positions on the field.

I think it would be more irresponsible to deal McNabb for less than the value he deserves just because you want to get him out. There’s practically nobody left in the league looking for a solution at starter that can give the Eagles what they want.
I saw Seattle and Cleveland mentioned… they’re no longer in the mix. They’re paying Jake Delhomme and Charlie Whitehurst to start, not to ride the bench, as amazing as that sounds. Yes, the teams are that dumb. No, there’s nothing we can do to change their mind. They wanted Kolb, we said no, they went in other directions. The doors are closed.
You have teams like Buffalo and St. Louis but they are not exactly competitive teams at the moment. Buffalo has new coaches and personnel and will want to draft THEIR GUY (likely Colt McCoy), and have an offensive coordinator who is not afraid to start a QB with no experience in Chan Gailey. Plus they have a human punching bag in Trent Edwards to be the interim QB for whoever follows him. And speaking of punching bags, Bulger is a Ram whether they like it or not, because of the money they’re paying him. Whoever the Rams draft or trade to replace him, Bulger is going to be bridging that gap. They don’t have to take a QB at #1, they can take one at #33. But why would they take a rental on a QB who is around the same age as Bulger when they can just throw Bulger to the wolves while the future of the franchise learns the system?
When you then discuss teams in need of a backup QB— well, first, the team wouldn’t move McNabb to that type of situation, so this is already an implausible hypothetical— the asking price drops way down. The Eagles might end up getting less value than they would if they let McNabb leave in free agency and collect the 3rd round compensatory pick.
Unless a team encounters a sudden jarring wrench into the cogs of their machine, I don’t know what it would take. Ben Roethlisberger won’t be suspended a full year. Matt Leinart is due $12m in 2011 and the Cardinals have no choice but to start him for one more year and decide if he truly is their franchise QB. Does anyone really think Brett Favre is going to stay retired? The 49ers have two former #1 pick QBs now and their GM just resigned. Al Davis still loves JaMarcus Russell. The Panthers annointed Matt Moore. The Chiefs are stuck with Cassel. The Jaguars are expected to draft Tim Tebow and start him week 1. The Bucs are expecting big things from Josh Freeman in his 2nd year.
Unless a QB is injured in May, this storyline is over.
What happens from here on out...
McNabb is due a roster bonus on May 5th. If the Eagles don’t get an offer they want by that point, they’ll pay that bonus, and McNabb will be the starter… FOR NOW.
If at any point in the first 6 weeks, McNabb begins to struggle, or another team suffers a catastrophic injury, they can still move him before the trade deadline and get more value than they would get in compensation for him leaving in FA. And then Kolb is the starter, and the average Eagles fan is happy. McNabb probably not so happy, because he wouldn’t have a long term deal, but he would at least be starting still, albeit in a new location, and would have a chance to prove himself for future suitors in 2011 (if there is a 2011 season). Granted, I don’t think this is very likely, but I never thought McNabb would be benched by Andy Reid either, and I stood quite corrected in 2008.
Most likely, he starts the entire year. If he does well, the Eagles may just have to let him walk and collect big money elsewhere (which I’m sure his agent wants). I think, more interestingly, is what might happen if he shows obvious decline, and teams no longer view him as a starter by 2011-2012. Maybe the team finds a way to keep McNabb as a backup or some other way for his career to end gracefully as an Eagle. After all, we don’t know how durable Kolb is. If something were to happen to him, wouldn’t it be nice to have someone who not only knows the system but has chemistry with the players? In that situation, you’re not getting a compensatory pick, but if the 2011 season doesn’t happen, then it probably wouldn’t make a big difference.
I can’t even imagine what it would be like, though, if/when he starts for us this year. The fans might boo him even if he does well, just because it means a prolonged wait for Kolb. I hope I’m wrong about this, I really do. The people here are usually really good about support and solidarity when the season begins, but there are going to be some fans out there just begging to get their teeth kicked in.

3 unforeseen events killed the Iggles best-laid plans for McNabb dumping
1. Us getting to the NFC Championship game two years ago,
2. Favre to the Vikings, and
3. The damn Bears trading for Jay Cutler
Oh definitely. The Bears DID give up two 1sts after all. A team that desperate being even more desperate this year? I absolutely could’ve seen that trade happening.
Favre screwed it up for us twice too. If he never went to the Jets, and they drafted some bust like Brohm, maybe they would have been available too.
The Eagles can’t get a 3rd round compensatory pick for McNabb if he leaves.
I am the people's troll :3™
I honestly don’t know the formula that they use to determine it. I just know what the max is. If the return is less, it is what it is.
by ZorkNemesis on Mar 19, 2010 12:47 PM EDT up reply actions
It is based on three factors. The amount of money in the new contract, how much playing time he gets, and post season awards.
So if a guy leaves your team, signs a huge contract, starts all year, and makes the pro bowl… you’ll get a third round pick.
Wrong
Who cares what we get? As long as we get SOMETHING. We know KK is the future, why keep delaying it?
Here’s the scneario — we give McNabb another chance, he walks next year and we get nothing. KK is another year older and yet again a RFA. WE GET ZILCH
Here’s the better scenario- we trade McNabb for whatever we can to whomoever wants him because the time to get ANYTHING for him is now.
I’ll bet anyone McNabb is not the starter. We’re getting rid of ALL of our old players who aren’t as good as they once were, Mcnabb shouldn’t be the exception.
E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!!!
i'd say he's gone by..
april 15th.
The Eagles WILL redeem themselves in the '10-'11 season, with a win at SuperBowl 45 in Dallas!
There’s practically nobody left in the league looking for a solution at starter that can give the Eagles what they want.
Depending on what “the Eagles want,” I vehemently disagree.
You have teams like Buffalo and St. Louis but they are not exactly competitive teams at the moment.
At some point you have to start winning if you’re the Rams, Bills, any any other team that “isn’t competitive” at the moment. McNabb would go a long way toward legitimizing those franchises. And this is the NFL, where the Dolphins barely avoided a winless season and then won a division the next year… where the Falcons won 4 games after being left for dead by a coach that split for Arkansas and a franchise QB that went to prison and then won 11 games… where the Saints went from an average 8-8 team to a Super Bowl Champion. It’s not like McNabb is this decrepit old man that can barely walk anymore – He’s 33, yes, but there is still plenty of football left in the tank.
But why would they take a rental on a QB who is around the same age as Bulger when they can just throw Bulger to the wolves while the future of the franchise learns the system?
Because McNabb is far better than Bulger. And I’d stop short of calling McNabb a “rental.” Again, it’s not like he’s 37 years old looking for one last season.
The 49ers have two former #1 pick QBs now and their GM just resigned.
So what if he’s a former #1 pick? They’re going to let the franchise continue to struggle with a mediocre QB because they made a bad decision 6 years ago?
The Jaguars are expected to draft Tim Tebow and start him week 1.
There’s no way in hell Tim Tebow is starting Week 1 in the NFL, and there’s no way for anyone to say the Jaguars are going to draft him.
The bottom line here is…
There are probably a dozen teams out there where I could make a strong case that would consider trading for McNabb. It just takes ONE to want him enough.
The Dolphins and Falcons had the lowest SoV in the league in 2008, and neither made the playoffs this year. The Falcons were at least a .500 team before Vick went to jail, and that was with the incompetent Mora Jr in charge. Those teams had talent on them that were being wasted until the right people came in. I mean, Cleo Lemon was the Dolphins starting QB in 07, and he’s in the CFL now. Cam Cameron drafted Ted Ginn and a 40 year old QB from BYU. At one point, Samkon Gado was in their backfield. And look, no team should have ever given Petrino a chance, that was a mistake from the beginning. And they started Joey Harrington for god’s sake. There’s a difference between a team in shambles and a team derailed. I categorize the Dolphins and Falcons as teams derailed, as both of them were .500 teams over the past decade.
Now, I could have seen the Bills turning things around had they brought in someone like Shanahan, who would commit to Fred Jackson and the running game. I certainly remember the promise they showed in the first 5-6 weeks of both this season and last season. HOWEVER, they passed on coaches and cherry-picked from the bargain bin because their owner is losing touch with reality. Even die-hard Bills fans are selling their season tickets, and fans don’t get much more die-hard than fans of the Bills.
The Rams, on the other hand, don’t have any semblence of building blocks outside of Donnie Avery and Steven Jackson. They have no foundation whatsoever. No offensive line, no defense, nothing to get excited about. Suh or McCoy will be just the first step in a long series of steps for them. They are about in the same position as the Lions were last year. Will the Lions make a big leap this year? Plausible, but they certainly didn’t just miraculously turn it around last year, even though they made smart moves in FA and the draft for the first time in maybe forever.
Why settle for Bulger or Edwards over McNabb? Because if you give up a first round pick (or the #33), that’s a pick that could have gone towards the future face of your franchise. Instead you’re starting someone who at any point could sustain the final injury of his career, with a potential lockout bringing a looming threat of immediate retirement, and you have no one to replace him, and your franchise is set back even longer. The Dolphins had Henne and the Falcons had Matt Ryan. The Rams and Bills don’t have their franchise QB yet, and they NEED those picks to take one.
“At some point you have to start winning”, sure, but it has to be done the right way. You can’t cut corners when your organization is completely rebuilding. The Lions have been in constant rebuilding mode for the last decade because their previous GM tried to skip steps year after year. If the Rams and Bills are thinking long term, then they won’t have a problem with Bulger and Edwards getting the shit beat out of them this year, because they aren’t trying to win the SB this year, they are trying to build a sustainable competitive product and THEN break the bank and make the big push. What makes the Dolphins/Falcons so interesting is the fact that THAT DOESNT HAPPEN. It was unprecedented. Teams generally don’t make that kind of instantaneous turnaround unless they have a once-in-a-lifetime player like a Peyton Manning. What of the Browns, or the Raiders, or the Redskins, or the Chiefs, or the Lions. Where’s their magical turnaround?
I mean, that’s in a perfect world scenario where GMs aren’t stupid, and as evidenced by the Cardinals and Seahawks’ past week of activities, there are some pretty stupid GMs out there. So I suppose we’ll see what happens!
Interesting But
He will be traded. No way are FO allows a 5th comp pick for Mcnabb. Are FO may do some shit that pisses us off to no end every year. But they are not stupid people. No way they let McNabb or Kolb walk out of here next year. With nothing but a comp pick in return. They have something In the works. You can bet your ass on that one.
the jags are also spending a fairly large sum on garrard.
i’m not sure about the exact amount, but he renogotiated after the year he threw 18 tds and 3 int.

I don't know why you put the 2001 Miami roster up...
But that is just ridiculous.
About 10 minutes ago, I was pondering my own existence. Then I decided that it didn't matter.
I forgot just how many stars/very good players they put into the NFL.
No wonder they’re considered the best college team ever.

I really want Westbrook back...
as a coach. He knows the system better than just about anyone. I expect us to draft another speed/receiver type back in the draft as well. (Bell taking the banger spot). To have Westbrook mentoring and tutoring McCoy would be fantastic.
How would that conversation go?
“Hey Brian, I know you’re probably a little upset that we cut you to avoid paying you the $7.5 million left on the last year of your contract, but whaddya think about coming back as a running backs coach and making less than 10% of that money?”
haha right
and whos to say if he can even coach at all..e very team wants their old player who they loved just to come back and coach…dont work that way !

I think it’s a bad idea to count out guys like Tebow. He’s just one of those people with the willpower, determination, and work ethic to make it happen.
I am the people's troll :3™
Exactly, you look at his skills and you say, no way if this was just another QB. Tim Tebow is different…. he has too strong of a will to not succeed. He does not give up, eventually I do think he will have a chance to start in a year or two. He just needs proper training and he would be fine.
Tebow doesn’t need to be motivated. Tim is one of those special people that push themselves to the limit. If I was a GM of a team that needed a QB I would try to draft Tebow maybe in the 3rd round, maybe 2nd. He is worth the risk, I really do believe in him, I do
eff you we winning anyway
A.I. IS BACKKKKKKK
I think you guys put too much emphasis on what 'willpower' can do
Sure it helps, and is important, but skill out weighs it by a ton. He is a broken QB right now. He has to change the mechanics that he’s been using his entire college career. Not saying he can’t, but thats like being a SG 2 months before the NBA draft and you have to change your shot.
