Around SBN: MLB Trade Deadline: Where each team stands right now

"Last year I didn't play, and I guess I can speak for them. I've become a headache, if you will," Andrews said. "And knowing that I'm getting better is just not a guarantee. There's not much in life guaranteed so they say 'Hey, he's had an OK career, and could come back and kick some butt, but at the same time, we want to move in another direction, we want to go younger, fresher, a guy that probably doesn't have a history of being hurt.' So it could be a lot of reasons why and I don't know. But I respect coach Reid for calling me, and letting me know 'Hey, we're going this way...'"

Shawn Andrews on how he felt about the Eagles releasing him now.

I hope he gets healthy again

Just not in a way that backfires and makes me upset we didn’t keep him. Best of Luck Shawn.

I saw on a message board

a Redskins fan pleading for Bruce Allen to sign him. That got me excited!

I can’t really think of one time when the Eagles let a guy walk and he’s gone on to star elsewhere. (Burgess doesn’t count since they wanted him back). Takeo Spikes is still in the league, I guess.

In other words, they’re usually pretty spot-on with their assessments. And it’s a shame his career ha to end this way, but don’t feel bad for Shawn Andrews. He doesn’t sound depressed anymore, and he’s rich. (beyatch)

Especially with offensive linesmen

When it comes to the o-line, I trust the Eagles coaching staff 110%

"That's what I love so much about this team. We have some warriors here. We have some guys who go out there and fight. That's the best thing about this team. No matter what happens, we just keep fighting. You have to love that."

Ding Dong the witch is dead...

This guy is a fucking idiot, he should just shut his fucking mouth go work out in the off season, and try to get on a team. I cant stand this ass, or his fucking brother, apples dont fall that far apart! GOOD RIDDENS!!!

back problems+depression does not mean he’s a “fucking idiot”

I'm not one to correct grammar ...

… at least not for free, but the irony of “GOOD RIDDENS!!!” juxtaposed with questioning someone else’s intelligence is rich.

yes.. the irony..

The Eagles WILL redeem themselves in the '10-'11 season, with a win at SuperBowl 45 in Dallas!

Read his responses to the situation. He was all class. Back problems ain’t nothin’ to fuck wit, as Wu-Tang might say. I wish him luck. Depression is serious business and he came back from it. Back problems are serious business as well and I hope he comes back from them. He may one day be a Pro-Bowler again, but I think it was time to separate from the Eagles. Just too much bad mojo I think.

Whether you liked him or not

He was about as classy in response to his release as one could get. Best of luck in your future Shawn.

by macjack09 on Mar 18, 2010 11:24 AM EDT reply actions

Classy response of him, but I think (without meaning this to be insulting to Shawn) that Westbrook was more upset because Westbrook cares more.

Brian seems like he loves to play football, or at least is driven to be great at it. For Shawn, it was just a means to an end. (And that’s ok. Not everyone is Brian Dawkins. Playing pro sports is most people’s dream, but I bet that once you get there, to some extent it’s “just a job.”)

Also, he ALWAYS goes out of his way to praise Reid. I think if Shawn ever really wants to play in the NFL again, and is healthy physically and mentally enough and the Eagles were in need of an OL, I don’t think any bridges between Shawn and the Birds are burned.

by BrianS on Mar 18, 2010 12:07 PM EDT reply actions

Agreed.

It seems he has to prove himself another team if he wants to come back though.

by NOLACuse on Mar 18, 2010 12:45 PM EDT up reply actions

I hope he works through his personal issues, but letting him go is the right move. It is a shame, he could have been a great player for the Eagles. Back problems and depression are both hard to work through.

I felt like his 1 hour addressing of the Philly fans was kind of clowny and not at all heart felt. Plus he wore a Yankees hat so fuck him.

They call me The Professor.

Philly guys need to stop doing that

I saw Black Thought of the Roots wearing one — and he’s the Philliest Philly guy there is.
