Bigger Moves to Come

It’s pretty funny how one day can change a lot. Last week when we watched Peppers, Kampman, Rolle, and a few other big name UFAs sign with the teams other than the Eagles, we all had a little panic attack. “What are they thinking!?!?” Most of us thought. But now with the trade/extension for Tapp, (which is definitely a great move for the Eagles), and the possible acquisition of Mike Bell (whom I thought ran with a lot of heart last year), I feel a large sigh of relief amongst the BG community. The Eagles rotated in some good young talent and potential without spending a lot. We got a possible starter with a huge upside for basically a 4th rounder, and got rid of an awful contract in Clemons.

My point is: the Eagles have saved a lot of money, and got a 25 year old solid DE, and hopefully Bell who is without a doubt at least a legitimate backup running back. Looking back, I’m actually very happy we didn’t invest a lot of money into aging or injured stars.

With this saved money, I feel like the Eagles are waiting on a big move come draft day. I think McNabb and Vick will both be traded either on draft day or the week before, at least definitely Vick (no way our stingy Eagles pay Vick 5 million this year, NO WAY!). McNabb’s situation is a tough one, and I can see the Eagles holding onto him for one more year if they don’t get higher than a 2nd or 2 3rds for him.

If both go, I hope the Eagles bring in Derek Andersen to be our back up. I think he only played half bad for a bad Browns team, and could hold a team together should Kolb go down.

Okay, so we have all this saved money, and acquired extra draft picks (and can also trade next years picks), it seems to me the Eagles will not only be trying to move up in the draft, but move up into the top ten. To me, Earl Thomas and Eric Berry are almost definite franchise players, and the Eagles defense relies heavily on the safety position to be effective. What it will take and how it will get done is entirely unpredictable to us, the fans, but I’m sure the front office has a plan. These guys are smart, and do this for a living. All day every day. If we could pick up a solid inside OL, LB, DB, DE and QB in the next couple rounds, we could actually be looking at a super bowl year. As long as we sure up that inside line our offense should be close to unstoppable. And I can’t wait to see how Sean McDermott will do in his second year at DC.

Anyway, I think yesterday kind of rejuvenated most of our hopes and I’m really can’t wait to see what happens next.

There is one more thing I kind of want to get off my back. I really can’t stand when people claim to know what kind of offseason moves the Eagles FO and Reid make. Other than not running the ball enough and poor clock management, Reid is usually full of surprises. People that say they don’t draft Lb in the first rounds, or they never move up in the draft, or they’ll never make a blockbuster trade, don’t know the Eagles very well. Just because they haven’t done it yet, or it didn’t work out in the past doesn’t mean they won’t give it another shot, but only on their terms. If I were to make an assumption about the Eagles’ FO, I would say they’re pretty damn good and pretty damn unpredictable.

Have a good day, and don't forget to drink your juice.
