What Seahawk fans are saying about the Tapp trade

Since I know nothing about Tapp (haven't watched Seahawk games), I had to inquire. So far, it sounds like it was another great trade by Reid and co.

I'm starting to hate the eagles first Weaver now Tapp..

This makes absolutely no sense to me

WHAT THE FUCK!? We’re trading a 25 year old defensive end who hasn’t missed a single game for a 28 year old who has 2.5 more sacks over 3 more years in the league, who also has a torn ACL?

Darryl Tapp was the best DE we had. He played fucking well against Michael Roos, who is one of the best left tackles in the league now. God fucking damn it.

I really don’t see how this is an improvement. If I were sitting at a desk I would headbang the desk _

Trying not to

but this deal heavily favors Philly, without a doubt. Further, it dramatically questions the foundational plans this regime has for this team.

Clemons is a situational rusher, and I know nothing about him beyond that. Conceivably, he could finally put it all together for a Kerney-like year or two, and the move could pay dividends, and Tapp could end up being only as good as he’s been so far, or get injured, or whatever. But that’s results-based analysis. I’m loathe to knee-jerk, but this move is indefensible.

Fuck.

This makes me incredibly irritated. Who is Chris Clemons? Some random douche who just took one of our best young player’s position, that’s who. Fuck.

It's Great to be a Florida Gator!

The Arizona Cardinals' plan for success:
-Lose all talent on team to retirement and free agency.
-Call it a day.

Ugh

Maybe this is just part of the Cliff Lee deal.

by FizzleDrip on Mar 16, 2010 4:30 PM PDT reply actions   4 recs

Tapp was more disruptive than Peterson and Kerney combined.

He’s just not a sack artist. But on the right defense, that may change.

And as John pointed out in one of his writeups, Tapp is right at the age where DE’s make “the leap.”

great find.

good to know that we might have just solidified our Defensive Line… how does

Daryl Tapp (LDE), Mike Paterson (NT), Brodrick Bunkley (DT), and Trent Cole (RDE)

sound as a line. I think im liking it

Tapp, Pat, Bunk, ... Cole?

Sounds like a great line, but Cole messes up the cool verb thing we had going on there, haha. We’ll forgive him for another double-digit sack season. We’re the next Vikes d-line here, except we’re younger!

They are definitely dumb enough to give us a first round pick for Kolb.

Strike while the iron is hot, fatman. Pull the fuckin’ trigger!

...But if he pulls the rug on his quarterback, Reid must do it knowing that he let McNabb down more than McNabb ever let him down.

…even I’d think about that one.

Where is JasonB?

Did he go to bed early tonight? Usually he is pretty quick on posting updates to the main page. The trade for Tapp is bigger than the offer to Bell IMO.

i am thinking the same thing. We just got a starting right DE. The Seahawks page is being lit up right now. They are freakin mad and its all quiet on the Eagles front

A source has confirmed to CSN’s Derrick Gunn that Tapp will sign a two-year extension after passing a physical.

A little more info on Tapp,

from Football Outsiders

Today, we’ve got the leaders in quarterback hits for 2009. These are plays knocking down the quarterback after a pass, not sacks. The total includes plays canceled by penalty. QB hits are a stat that some official scorers can be shaky about recording, and the FO game charting project tends to add a number of them after the fact through our contacts in the league office, so these totals will differ from the ones you’ll see in FOA 2010 in a few months. Nonetheless, here’s a list of every defender with at least 11 quarterback hits in the data as it stands today.

19: A.Spencer, DAL; M.Kiwanuka, NYG
17: R.Edwards, MIN
14: A.Carter, WAS; M.Williams, HOU; A.Kampman, GB (in only nine games!)
13: A.Smith, HOU; D.Tapp, SEA; O.Umenyiora, NYG; W.Smith, NO
12: D.Ware, DAL; T.Cole, PHI; C.Matthews, GB; J.Allen, MIN; S.White, TB
11: K.Vanden Bosch, TEN; R.Mathis, IND; A.Brown, CHI; M.Lawson, SF

You guys got the better end of this deal, by far. :(

by Mind of no mind on Mar 16, 2010 8:44 PM EDT reply actions

Wow, there are some telling stats

Up there with Osi, Will Smith, better than our own beloved Cole, Jared Allen, Ware, Clay Matthews… Dude sounds like a beast.

He is tied for 13th, those guys are 12th. But yea, i’m exciting about the pickup.

but worst trade ever for them. that would be like.. us trading kevin kolb for jemarcus russel and a fourth-round pick. that logic is seirously flawed, but imagine how pissed everyone would be. lol

Yo this makes alot of sense...

we want a guy to draw the Double away from cole… Whala, Tapps’ the man at that, he draws doubles all the time, watched tape.. Good against the run, ok at rushing the passer but stirs the pot so to speak and draws alot of attention which is all we wanted to achieve in a LDE if you remember.

Joe...

Great post. The agony on the West Coast says a lot about the potential of this guy. Has anyone examined his ACLs?

Also, has anyone noticed that we seem to be pillaging Seattle and Buffalo on a regular basis? Buffalo even picked up our trash (T.O. – or maybe that should be T.Zero.)

is now over 1500 comments…. Don’t attempt to check it out unless you’re not running anything else on your computer or if have at least 4 GB’s of RAM… the damn page took forever to load and ran slow as balls.

But what I got from the general consensus:

We stole a promising young player that they all loved. I like this move.

by Smitty2K3 on Mar 17, 2010 9:46 AM EDT reply actions

Most Importantly, it looks like he has some beast in the way he plays. The last real

Eagle beast played in Denver last year. Trot brought some back but not enough. Cole needed help and Sheldon was injured. But no one was an Eagle stalker last year outside of Cole consistently. Gotta get the beast back on defense. This guy may help. Can we sign Burgess too? He’s nasty also. We let Babin go.

by Trade Kolb on Mar 17, 2010 2:35 PM EDT up reply actions

Ok, I'm still concerned at Safety, both outside LB's, Stew Bradley's knee in the middle,

center, right guard and right tackle. I’m also concerned with can Shady be the 2nd coming of B-West? We need that dump-off/swing pass/misdirection game back to keep teams like the boys off balance. And Shady has to chip block like B-West. Then we can attack downfield or just dink and dunk them to death (ala 2004 again – unstoppable and plays to McNabbs strengths.). Can we re-sign B-West at vets min? He’d probably come back. But I know the Eagles already know all of this and I think they will answer these issues. Looks good so far!
