Around SBN: Jerry Sandusky's Wife Tries To Run A Reporter Over

If Southern Cal's Mays falls to them, they probably would take him, but it is against their philosophy to take a safety in the first round. They usually go for cornerbacks, defensive linemen, tackles and wide receivers. Mays is a rare talent, but I think the Eagles' philosophies would prevent them from trading up. That's why I think they would lean toward a pass-rusher. This is a great draft for defensive linemen, and I think the Eagles will play to the strength of the draft. That may not satisfy their needs at safety. Recent pickup Marlin Jackson might help at corner or safety.

Just a casual observation, doesn’t John Clayton look like a turtle? As far as Mays goes, he is fast in a straight line, but I’m not sold on his coverage ability….

I could see that...

kinda like Dana Carvey in that movie…

lmao!

I’m glad someone else sees the resemblance… And yeah, maybe Jauron could mold Mays. I hope, having Weapon X all those years certainly spoiled me.

All of the talk on Mays has been so negative the last 2 months. I mean maybe some of it is just smokescreen but half of the scouts say he can’t play safety and the other half say he can’t play LB either.

That being said, Dick Jauron would know how to coach him up. If they draft him, it will be because Jauron gave the thumbs up. Don’t be surprised if there’s a private workout.

if clayton knew anything about the eagles philosophies, he would know that not drafting mays has nothing to do with not drafting safeties in the first round(fyi john, why would you take safety in the first round with dawk as fs for a decade+). it would have more to do with the 5 int’s in 4 seasons. the birds value turnovers and mays does not have a strong track record in this area. if there were a reason why they don’t take him, it would be this one. on another note, the positions that we draft in the first round according to john-1 corner(lito), 1 tackle(shawn andrews) and 2 wr(maclin, fredex) in the last decade. is that really a track record? defensive lineman? yeah we do like them in the first round. all in all, it appears to me that john clayton doesn’t really know anything about the eagles

i actually like mays..

The Eagles WILL redeem themselves in the '10-'11 season, with a win at SuperBowl 45 in Dallas!

andy reid...

has been here for 11 drafts, 9 first round picks…that’s 22% of his first round picks. 1 qb- 11%, 4 DL – 44%, 1 T – 11%, 1 CB – 11%, 2 WR – 22%…..i’d say he was pretty accurate.
Seems like you’re thinkin as the Eagles drafts as a whole, not the current regime.

u know who is like c3p0?

zork nemesis is like c3p0 n should change his name to that. with all his stattistical analysis n bs he is jus the blogger version of these two tools. As for Taylor Mays he is the 2nd incarnation of Roy Williams and he blows harrrrrrrrrd. This would be a terrible selection by the birds. THey gotta go witherspoon here

Please take Mays!!!

I disagree with the Roy Williams thing, he’s more like Laron Landry. Either way, that stinks.

THo..given the Eagles secondary history, it could work out so maybe its not such a bad pick for ya’ll?

can never tell...

if you’re being sarcastic or not…if jauron thinks he can mold mays, i wouldnt be too upset w/ the pick. the FO would obviously have to like him or see something they can use to draft him. Their draft strategy has seemed to work out so far.

He wants us to draft Mays for the same reason I don’t want us to draft Mays…

if we had an early 2

i wouldn’t be upset if they drafted mays. Not with our first round pick though. If our DB coaches could mold him, the visions of him destroying wr’s like steve smith and moss over the middle is pretty nice.

That would be sweet, but the visions of him being as bad at covering as Asante Samuel is at tackling haunt me.

he's a safety...

he’s not lining up across a no. 1 wr. he’ll just have to work on wrapping up and his change of direction. no one will be able to throw deep on us.

they sure will this kid bites on play action like he’s never seen it before and one pump fake and your golden. He was always faster and more athletic and he could cover up his lack of football skills. This won’t be the case in the NFL, I’m not saying he won’t ever be good I’m just saying I don’t want a project we’ve already got 3 of those.

They call me The Professor.

my view is...

they only draft him if they can fix him, and they feel jauron/db coaches can work w/ him. the value is there if he were to be picked in the second round.
I’m not lookin at mays as is, the way you are. With 4.3 speed, if jauron can turn him into a good safety….he’s got the speed to make up ground, and no on will be able to throw deep on the eagles.

Exactly

We need someone who has proven he can cover as a safety. Marlin Jackson might be that. However, Mikell is getting up there in years and it we need an insurance policy in case Jackson isn’t up to task.

In a division with Jason Witten, Chris Cooley, and Kevin Boss, I don’t want the Eagles to draft a safety unless they’re sure he can cover.
