Well at least his sources say McNabb is. I like this podcast for draft info, but the first few minutes when discussing St. Louis Mel isn't very high on McNabb

Kiper

Kiper is a moron. The only reason he has a job at all is to keep us occupied during the off season. Thats it..

by greenage on Mar 12, 2010 1:27 PM EST reply actions

I'd be curious what Kiper's yearly income is...

Obviously, he has income coming in from ESPN, but are there any other sources of money for him? You’d think that if he were really that great of a talent evaluator, some NFL would hire him.

by JimmyK on Mar 12, 2010 1:39 PM EST reply actions

NFL team that is.

by JimmyK on Mar 12, 2010 1:39 PM EST up reply actions

Nope

Why work for an NFL team? He does all the same things a scout does except gets paid more, gets recognition, travels less and doesn’t have to answer to anyone. Sounds like a good deal, why would he give that up?

by d-jackfan10 on Mar 13, 2010 2:34 AM EST up reply actions

doesn’t have to answer to anyone

He works for ESPN.

by JimmyK on Mar 15, 2010 8:32 AM EDT up reply actions

Why would he do that though?

He’s like his own industry. If he joined an organization he would limit his ability to make cash. He also has put out for years a rather pricey prospect book.

He’s cheesy and essentially the Jimmy the Greek of the NFL Draft, but like Jimmy, he did wonders for growing the NFL and making the NFL draft an event instead of just the after thought it used to be.

by Cormican on Mar 12, 2010 2:15 PM EST up reply actions

True... the guy proves his worth in the late round when he's still able to talk in detail

Being able to discuss and report on hundreds of draft picks is pretty impressive

by Smallbugger on Mar 12, 2010 2:21 PM EST up reply actions

Agreed. I get no more bent about Mel being wrong than I do at the weather man for being off. They’re predicting the future for chrissake.

by Cormican on Mar 12, 2010 2:23 PM EST up reply actions

Why would he do that though?

More $

by JimmyK on Mar 12, 2010 2:41 PM EST up reply actions

Nah

He’d have to quit publishing his book, and I’m sure ESPN pays him quite handsomely. I imagine it would be a pay cut for him to simply be a scout for an NFL team, and he may not have the skill set needed to run a scouting department.

by Cormican on Mar 12, 2010 2:49 PM EST up reply actions

he probably makes at least as much as a scouting director for an nfl team. he probably makes in the neighborhood of 300000 a year. he’s on tv fairly often and writes for the website, not to mention the actual scouting he has to do.

by bula412 on Mar 13, 2010 12:04 AM EST up reply actions

yeah

it’s amazing that he’s been covering the draft since before I was born and he still sucks.

They call me The Professor.

yeah

i think he predicted us to get the blindside last season

You just agreed with Mel Kiper

Pause and let that sink in for a minute

ahuh

Mel Kiper thought Ryan Leaf was a better QB than Peyton Manning too.

by ZorkNemesis on Mar 12, 2010 7:58 PM EST reply actions

Did he really?

I was like 9 when that debate was going on so I don’t remember who was on what side.

But if that’s true than Kiper has lost what little credibility he had left

GO CUSE, BLUE, AND EAGLES!

by tanman5 on Mar 14, 2010 9:12 PM EDT up reply actions

Hindsight is always 20/20. Leaf was bigger, had a much better arm and was unreal in college while Peyton was (accurately for the most part) thought by a lot of ppl to be a choke artist. It is what it is, I highly doubt very many of you could do better than the guy.

by You don't have to be sweet, to be good on Mar 15, 2010 10:35 AM EDT up reply actions

Fortunately for the Colts

They did a LOT better than that guy and for the record I remember the consensus was that Manning was the better prospect

GO CUSE, BLUE, AND EAGLES!

by tanman5 on Mar 15, 2010 8:45 PM EDT up reply actions

As far as being a choke artist

You clearly missed Ryan Leaf’s choke job (spiking the ball with two seconds left) against Michigan in the Rose Bowl

I'd like to know who these sources of his may be

It simply can’t be possible that they could know more about QBing than Andy.

by bigmyc on Mar 13, 2010 12:27 AM EST reply actions

the man’s job is the NFL equivilent to a weather man. Only he has the luxury of being less accurate and making more money.

by 0sirys on Mar 13, 2010 8:53 AM EST reply actions

If you find yourself agreeing with Mel Kiper you might want to reconsider. Andy has won a lot more football games than Mel.
