Yeah, I saw that backup QB thing too.

The comments are great. A LOT of people were saying Kitna, which is beyond idiotic, even for the biggest homer fans out there.

by JimmyK on Mar 12, 2010 6:18 AM EST via mobile reply actions

Wow
1. Kitna – Yes, Kitna! I’ll take the QB that has thrown for more than 4000 yds in a season, has a higher career QB rating & you know can fill in for an entire season
2. Kolb – I don’t give a damn about “potential” but until the “A.J Feeley” stink is off of Kolb, he’s good for spot starts only right now.

Un-freaking-believable

I liked the guy’s reply to that about Kitna’s career record.

by JimmyK on Mar 12, 2010 7:31 AM EST via mobile up reply actions

Yeah, Kitna is pretty horrible

He’s lucky he got placed on the injured reserves the year the Lions went 0-16. And he was horrible during the years he threw for 4,000+ yards.

06-07
4208 yards, 21 TDs, 22 INTs, 3-13 team record

07-08
4068 yards, 18 TDs, 20 INTs, 7-9 team record

Those INT numbers are pretty Jay Cutler-y there

by chrisbeomsuh on Mar 12, 2010 8:38 AM EST up reply actions

Fun fact

One of the three wins that the Lions had during the 06-07 season came against the Cowboys in the season finale (39-31). Kitna threw for 306 yards, 4 TDs, and 1 INT.

The Eagles WILL redeem themselves in the '10-'11 season, with a win at SuperBowl 45 in Dallas!

by antoniak on Mar 12, 2010 9:47 AM EST up reply actions

There are two types of back up

The career backup as in Sorgi who the Giants have just signed or

The starter backup as in Kolb who is slated to become the starting QB when McNabb is no longer with the Eagles.

It is therefore a bad question as you are comparing Apples and Pears.

Last year Carr, Collins and Kitna were all true backups whereas Kolb could easily have been named starter half way through the season if McNabb underperformed.

After all Kolb was drafted to replace McNabb because he was over 30 when Kolb was drafted. Romo, Eli and Campbell are all under 30 and therefore none of these teams needed to draft a future starter and could rely on a safety net to cover the starter.

So yes by default Kolb is the best but he is really a starter in back up clothing. The best true backup would have been Carr or Kitna.

Question to those who watch the draft prospects/ posabilities religiously

If we gave up our first for Rey Edwards what OLB’s do you think will fall to the 2nd?

bring Dawk & Westy home

by MeanGreen5 on Mar 12, 2010 8:15 AM EST reply actions

Instead of a 1st rounder mayb McNabb and a 3rd or even a 4th

If Farve actually retires there are obvious ties McNabb has with that Offensive. We could keep our 1st and pick up a OLB or a G/C and be prime
What do you guys think?

bring Dawk & Westy home

by MeanGreen5 on Mar 12, 2010 8:18 AM EST reply actions

Would be fine with me

Would give us plenty of opportunity to move up in the draft if we needed to also.

RIP Mr. Olsen

I’ll probably get flack for this, but he is the single greatest tv color guy I’ve ever seen or heard. (Not a bad player, either.)

John Madden can suck it! He’s a f’in terrible announcer.

I’ll take Chris Collinsworth, but I agree, Olsen was great.
