Sal Pal says a deal is close with one of our QB's

The Seahawks have been contacting the Eagles "non-stop" about Donovan McNabb and Kevin Kolb, ESPN's Sal Paolantonio said during a Tuesday radio appearance.

Star-divide

Paolantonio, a former Eagles beat reporter, went on to say that he firmly believes McNabb will be traded at some point this offseason. The link to Seattle will be a loud wake-up call to incumbent Matt Hasselbeck, who new coach Pete Carroll gave a vote of confidence to back in January. The Seahawks probably are more interested in Kolb as their quarterback of the future, but he's far less likely to be dealt than McNabb. Mar. 10 - 9:22 am et

Lol, nice

I think if there is a trade it will be Kolb. It would surprise me, but I’d be more surprised to find out Seattle wants a different older quarterback that hasn’t won the big game. It hust seems like an odd trade idea. If there’s a Seattle trade, its Kolb. But I still think Vick is the only QB going anywhere this offseason.

I think if we are holding out

on Kolb and McNabb… people would have to be interested in Vick. Everyone is making all this news about trading for Kolb or McNabb but if those two are completely taken off the table… then Vick might actually get some attention. But if I had a choice between the three, as another team, it would be between Kolb and McNabb.

I, as well, think we will be getting rid of him. But I’ve been surprised in the past.

Some people need to stop with all the riduculous suggestions… Noone wants the Andrew’s Bros, Chris Gocong or Quintin Demps so please keep that in mind before wasting space with your assinine predictions… The trade if one were to happen would be McNabb and like a 5th for their 2nd round pick..

Ok, now that I’ve decripted your ebonics lets respond to this… First off, this is a blog, we make ridiculous suggestions daily and I think Smitty was just joking… Secondly I actually want the Andrew’s bro’s on this team if they can get healthy, I actually like Gocong because quite frankly we’d be replacing him with some guy off the street and I think replacing him would make us worse in that sense(unless of coarse we draft someone), and I agree with you on Demps he’s garbage… Thirdly your new here, you have no pull with anyone, you dont outlaw “assinine predictions” because hey this once again is a blog, we make “assinine predictions” to pass the time.. And finally wouldnt saying “the trade if there is one would b mcnabb n like a 5th for thier 2nd rounder” count as an “assinine prediction”?? because I think it does which also means that you are the following 3 things:
(1) an Assinine predictor
(2) A hypocrite
(3) and finally a dumbass…

by RossyJr22 on Mar 10, 2010 10:59 AM EST up reply actions

That is absolutely NOT what he said.

A deal is NOT close. All that we know is that Seattle is trying to acquire a QB from Philadelphia.

Let’s talk market value. Despite what all of the fans on here will think, forget about the first rounders. Kolb and McNabb will NOT get us a first rounder. And if that’s what the Eagles want, then McNabb will be in Philadelphia this year.

Basically it comes down to whether McNabb or Kolb is worth the #40 pick, and whether Philadelphia thinks that is enough.

by ZorkNemesis on Mar 10, 2010 10:45 AM EST reply actions

Just a hunch

But McNabb for a 2nd sounds a lot more likely to happen as we get closer to the draft than it does currently. Kolb for a 2nd would be fair, if you compare him to Matt Schaub in his days in Atlanta. But the Falcons had to endure two years of misery before finally finding Mattt Ryan. And it’s debatable whether the Falcons are better off with Ryan or Schaub, as the 2009 season was kind of a wash.

So do the Eagles want to potentially sacrifice their future for a 2nd and try another QB? I don’t know. If they trade Kolb, that means that they will probably target Jake Locker in the 2011 draft, and then you’ve got a QB who will not be able to get on the field until 2012 because of the lockout. It’s a pretty tough call.

by ZorkNemesis on Mar 10, 2010 10:48 AM EST up reply actions

After thinking about it..

a 2nd would do just fine right now. Rather have a 2nd then nothing next year.

by ssean2266 on Mar 10, 2010 10:50 AM EST up reply actions

Just keep in mind..

The Eagles already have a healthy number of picks (8) so the fruits of such a labor may not be immediately evident. If they made such a trade, don’t expect the Eagles to actually draft someone at #40, expect them to flip that pick for either more picks or a trade up. Such is their MO.

by ZorkNemesis on Mar 10, 2010 10:53 AM EST up reply actions

Exactly

I’m expecting a lot of movement from the FO during the draft. There’s no way we’re going to be making all 8 picks.

Amen

Lawlor was saying the Niners were interested in Vick but the Eagles wanted too much. Hopefully the same thing won’t happen with McNabb (if anything is really going to happen).

The days of McNabb = 1st round pick are over. A high to mid second would be fine. Maybe even a 2nd and a 5th if they get greedy.

by DLawrence on Mar 10, 2010 11:46 AM EST up reply actions

Any "Eagle QB to Niners" rumors are just random thinking

There haven’t been any indications of their front office pursuing a potential starter. They just signed David Carr specifically as a backup in order to unload one of their other backups. Singletary has gone on record to say Alex Smith is their starter.

Seattle has two firsts (6, 14)

Would you rather take a pick or a player from them? On the similar fan shot I tried to think up some scenarios.

What about McNabb and the Andrews brothers (they need an offensive line too) for the 6th pick of the draft? Eric Berry or Rolando McClain?

Their RB Justin Forsett is good, but I bet they don’t want to let him go. No need for Houshmandzadeh when we have DJax, Maclin, and Avant.

no, I dont think he's playing at all next year..

Here’s how I see things:

- He tore his ACL game 15, that’s really really late into the year.
- He had surgery in late december to early Jan
- It takes 6-9 months to fully recover, but most arent normal until about a year after surgery.
- He’s 29, he’s up there in football years, that’s not good when you have someone of his size, age and position tearing their ACL.
- Now we will most likely wait and see what we do at Center, if Nick Cole doesnt cut it we may try and see how Jackson does, but if Cole or whoever’s the Center in TC seem as if they can get the job done they will IR him and I wouldnt even be surprised if we cut him at that point.

Educated Guess on Trade Value

If this trade goes down, I think the following would be a possible package:

Seattle would get:
McNabb and 24th overall pick in 2010.

Philly would get:
Seattle’s 14th overall pick in 2010 and Seattles 2nd round pick in 2011.

If we swap this year’s picks, we would be able to move up and get an Earl Thomas or Derrick Morgan possibly, while Seattle would be able to turn the 24th pick into Brandon Marshall while also getting McNabb and solidifying their offense.

by Smitty2K3 on Mar 10, 2010 11:15 AM EST reply actions

Doesn't work that way...

Seattle would have to give up their own 1st rounder (5th overall I think) if they wanted to sign Marshall.

but what if Denver said we would accept the #24 instead of the #6, can they allow that?

Jedan konj darezljiv? Nije u programu!

Well, I don’t think Denver would prefer to take the 24 rather than the 6, would they?
Besides, I’m not sure how the Commissioner would take it. (or the other owners, for that matter – especially if another team was left in the opposite situation)

Yes, I did find my dictionary.

by Rabbit T on Mar 10, 2010 11:39 AM EST up reply actions

Yes. They can absolutely work out a trade instead.

by JimmyK on Mar 10, 2010 1:03 PM EST up reply actions

What happens if....

we get Seattles’ 6th overall pick instead of the 14th?

Which pick would they have to (be able to) trade for Marshall?

by Smitty2K3 on Mar 10, 2010 12:18 PM EST up reply actions

I think then it becomes a negotiation thing. Both Seattle’s first rounders, #14 (Den ‘09) and #24 (Phi ’10), are picks from other teams and not “their own”. Someone correct me if I’m wrong, I would like to know as well..

by notfromphilly on Mar 10, 2010 9:02 PM EST up reply actions

One detail

If they used a first round pick for Brandon Marshall, it would have to be no. 6.
NFL rules say that if you give up a pick for an RFA, it has to be your original pick if you have it. If you have acquired a pick from a trade somehow, you can’t just choose to give up the lower one. If you have the one from your original slot, that’s the one you have to give. If you previously switched it to another one, you have to give up the one you have.

by Rabbit T on Mar 10, 2010 11:24 AM EST up reply actions

Reasonable guess

i would still rather see McNabb end up in the AFC but it is a move that does make sense for both teams on a couple of levels.

just start a post of all the rumors we hear and updated everytime something like this comes out. Then when its all together, we can all realize how random and ridiculous some of these are. I’ve heard a new team every day. Add that Pittsburg wants McNabb – per my co-worker that sits behind me and tries to talk football with me although he couldn’t even name his own quarterback.

by Smitty2K3 on Mar 10, 2010 12:45 PM EST up reply actions

He may not win the big game..but the NFC champ and of course Bowl aren’t against the Giants, or the cowpokes.

I firmly believe the Eagles best chance to win a SB is with McNabb, I think he’s a great QB who deserves to retire an Eagle.

The Eagles defense and of course, Big Forklift’s insistence on using the passing game instead of using all those 350lbs lineman and just running it down the throat of the other team, did him in.

Kolb may be the next Aaron Rogers just sitting on the sidelines, but I think McNabb deserves a few shots.

Even as a rival fan…I’d rather see #5 with the Eagles, cuz if the Giants beat them it will be at their best.

That said, I don’t want the Eagles at their best, so by all means…trade McNabb.

but I had a dream a few weeks ago that we traded McNabb to the Seahawks. I think it was like McNabb + our 3rd for the latter of the Seahawk’s 1st round picks and a 5th.

Its funny to think Kolb is worth a 1st rounder and McNabb is probably a 2nd rounder…

When I read the one commenter wouldn’t mind getting McNabb for a 4th round pick.

Unfortunately it takes 2 days to be able to join their blog…

by Smitty2K3 on Mar 10, 2010 12:51 PM EST up reply actions

The reason why is that McNabb is in the same position as Hasselbeck

same age and huge contract with one year left so to give up a 1st or 2nd round for one year doesn’t seem likely?

I think most people would say Hasselbeck for McNabb and a 4th round and you can have Julius Jones and put him in a Cowboys uniform and sacrifice him.

Give me an offensive line or give me death!

by yomjoseki on Mar 11, 2010 10:42 AM EST up reply actions

Haha

No offense… but that’s all Julius Jones is worth to me.

But as far as McNabb being “in the same position as Hasselbeck”…

I’d argue that McNabb is much better than Hasselbeck and there’s really no comparison. They are the same age and both in the last year of their contract, but you’re getting a big upgrade with McNabb and you’d probably try to extend McNabb for a few years before you’d do a deal anyway.

by Smitty2K3 on Mar 11, 2010 10:44 AM EST up reply actions

I agree I would take McNabb over Hasselback anyday and it would be a bad deal for you

I am saying that the there will be a riot in Seattle if we didn’t keep 6, 14, and 40 for ourselves.

We hate Julius Jones in Seattle so if anyone wants him please take him.

Give me an offensive line or give me death!

I think he’s just fine, thanks. Runs hard, pass blocks well, can receive out of the backfield, and cheap.

by djafrot on Mar 11, 2010 4:26 PM EST up reply actions

I hope that he (McNabb) gets traded to Seattle that would be great. I just hope its not Kolb because then the eagles are stuck with McNabb for many more years and are going to have to draft a QB in this draft (probably will late anyways) but he might have to start sooner rather than later….

by Eaglesfan10 on Mar 10, 2010 12:30 PM EST reply actions

Part of me

is starting to believe that Kevin Kolb will be traded for a butt-load of picks/players.

Bear with me as I try to explain why this might turn into a bidding war for Kolb.

There has been word coming out that teams like the Seahawks, Rams, Bills and Browns all have some pretty serious interest in McNabb/Kolb. (Moreso Kolb).

It has also been reported (speculated) today by Adam Schefter that the Browns are looking at trading Brady Quinn… which, after cutting Derek Anderson, would leave them with only Seneca Wallace at QB.

Now throw in the Rams who signed AJ Feeley to (most likely) become the veteran mentor to help teach the incumbent young QB the Eagles offense (Pat Shurmur’s version of the Eagles offense).

Now throw in the fact that all three of these teams have a serious need for a QB, they all have run or will be running a version of the WCO (not sure about the Bills style of offsense), and they all have a pick in the top 10 of this year’s draft.

Now throw in the fact that there are only two top 10 tier QB’s (Bradford and Clausen) in this year’s draft to fill four (or more) team’s needs at QB. That will leave two (or more) teams without a viable starting QB and that will force them to make a trade for a QB already in the league… which, in turn, will drive up the price for one of our QB’s.

The reason why I think the QB of choice will be Kolb over McNabb, is because the price might end up being too good to pass up due to age and upside while Andy Reid wants to win now with McNabb.

Sorry for the rambling… but it’s really starting to all come together. I have been going back-and-forth on whether or not we trade a QB… but now it’s more a matter of WHEN, not IF.

by Smitty2K3 on Mar 10, 2010 1:14 PM EST reply actions

I think the exact same way but I don’t get why the eagles don’t understand that Kolb is going to be that valuable and get rid of McNabb now while there is still trade value. One could only hope that Kolb is going to be somewhat like Aaron Rodgers, while that might be a little high of an expectation I don’t see any reason he couldn’t fit that way in the eagles system. If they trade Kolb I will be extremely disappointed.

by Eaglesfan10 on Mar 10, 2010 1:22 PM EST up reply actions

I get what your saying I'm pro-kolb and on the "trade Mcnabb-bandwagon" but if we get

like 2 firsts and it’s possible that Bradford, McCoy(possibly) or one of the better QB’s fall to us then I think it may be worth it, but I’d much rather trade McNabb for a 2nd this year or next year.

I'm with you...

It makes much more sense to trade McNabb… but my point is… if we can get a blockbuster-type package in return for Kolb, then I wouldn’t be surprised if we accepted it.

Especially since we basically have the team in place to make a SB run next year and the general consensus is, although Kolb will be good, McNabb still gives us our best chance to win right now.

I want some of your drugs!!!!!!!!!!

We do not have the team in place to make a run at the superbowl this coming year. We would have had to sign some serious veteran talent to be there, and we did not. Just to clarify we are unsure about our O line and we have at least 2 major holes on defense. Kolb is here unless some one offers 2 1sts. I’m telling you, its time for the youth movement here. And you know I would prefer McNabb but everything I have seen them do so far has me convinced that we are setting ourselves up for another dominat run in the long haul. I could see McNabb going to Seattle for their late first and a 4th while they get one of our thirds. Then we will most likely trade our first for more draft picks and make a run at Morgan. Then again, we might not move anybody and besides for Vick I’d be fine with that too.

The wildcard is that Carroll is really taken with Clausen

He recruited him heavily at USC and we can’t figure out what the Redskins will want to do. I think if anything happens it will be draft day after the Redskins pick.

is a Ginormous Redkins fan. he has gotten every first round pick they have had for the last 6 years correct and he says they are going Bulaga even with Okung still on the board. Bulaga fits their zone blocking scheme perfectly, and they have him rated as a better Tackle prospect. I learned not to bet against him (when it comes to their drafts) so that’s who they will take.

This is the Vick and Matt Schaub scenario all over again!!!!!

I am a die hard Eagles fan who moved to Atlanta from Phillie 25 years ago. Still a die hard Eagles fan. Several years ago the Falcons let go of Matt Schaub when they should have kept him and then they subsequently had no QB when Vick got busted . Bottom line, they need to start Kolb and hang with him and tell Donovan that he needs to be a team player and support him as the backup. Andy needs to man up and make these tough decisions for the good of the team and my sanity. If I see this, then a 2-year old can see it.
