Around SBN: Despite Relocation Drama, Coyotes Overcome Adversity

The New York Jets have confirmed the speculation that's been building in recent weeks: they will release RB Thomas Jones at the end of the week.

"We have informed Thomas Jones and his representatives that we will release him on March 5," GM Mike Tannenbaum said in a statement.

i would be all for having thomas jones and mccoy with 15 carries each per game(like we carry the ball 30 times a game). i think jones still has some left in the tank. 2 years even. he ran for 1400 yards last season i think. the only thing is that he’s going to be looking for no. 1 spot and he’s not going to get that here. i would take jones next season over LT and westy

If Weaver and McCoy are getting the bulk of the carries

I don’t see Jones even on the Eagles list. I like Buckley as the third back, I think hes a monster on S/Ts team. Maybe a RB in the 5th or 6th to compete with him. I think we’re getting a little “madden happy” with the thoughts of getting Sproles, Chester taylor or Jones. For all the Weaver love here we’re definitely having no problem with dreaming of highly touted RBs.

Monster? When I think of “Monster S/Ters” for some reason Devin Hester, Dante Hall and Steve Tasker. Maybe an Ike Reese if you catch me on the right day. Buckley? I guess I should be watching more film.

He has been pretty good.

Some excellent plays. I keep thinking he’s Asante.

Buckley is third on the team in ST tackles(13) and 2nd in blocks(69) He also has 1 FF.

Bye 36, you will be missed...

Yeah I like Buckley on S/T and he hasn’t really had a lot of playing time to show himself as a RB. I like agree with Joe that we could just go for a RB in the later rounds because I’d like to at least give him a chance.

As usual JoeD speaks from his behind

Jeff Buckley a monster RB? Are you serious? I’m not even sold on McCoy yet….I think if this team wants to win, they need a proven back…..Since Westy had to be let go because of his injuries, we need to sign a proven back to challenge McCoy. The good thing is that running backs come cheap so it’s something the FO could consider.

by Super52010 on Mar 1, 2010 6:56 PM EST up reply actions

as usual you're an idiot.

I didnt say he was a monster RB, I said MONSTER special teamer..btw his name is eldra..

Guess what, we have two good running backs, Leonard Weaver and LeSean McCoy. They will be getting the bulk of the carries and we’re not going to spend big bucks or a high draft pick on a back that will likely see 50 or fewer touches throughout the season.

I’m the only one here who doesn’t think this is madden and should sign every big name on the market

B/c

you think buckley is a monster is all. Im happy to not sign a RB and draft one, but a Buck is not a monster. I have very little faith in him.

I just was saying today id love to pick up rolle, no one else. Peppers is too much and his heart isnt there.

by TheDtrain on Mar 2, 2010 6:29 PM EST up reply actions

Why?

Nothing he said was ridiculous. I agree with Joe. Thomas Jones is a good RB but he’s too old. We have a lot of holes to fix on the defense so I would rather have the FO focus on shoring up that side of the ball (ie Rolle & Peppers). Besides, we have a solid combo in Shady/Weaver. We can draft a RB in the late rounds for depth.

why cant you!?!?! :)

and we did fine with McCoy and Weaver all year considering Westbrook was out for most of the season.

I would welcome Thomas Jones its not like he’s going to get 250+ carries in our offense.

I don't want him

RB is a young man’s game it seems. Plus I’m really hoping we get a KR RB to play behind McCoy and have a bigger back/special teams grunt as a 3rd guy.

by Smallbugger on Mar 1, 2010 4:27 PM EST reply actions

he’s still averaging over 4 YPC and had 1400 yards last year and 14 TDs you have to at least look at him right? It appears he was only released because of money, I don’t know I’m definitely interested.

i’m not saying that i’m hoping they sign the guy, but i wouldn’t be upset if they did

by bula412 on Mar 1, 2010 4:38 PM EST reply actions

No Thanks

Why do I want to drop Westbook and turn around to sign an almost-as-old RB that isn’t near the receiver that Westbrook was?

No thanks on Jones or Sproles.

I’d be okay with Chester Taylor because he fits our offense, but I’d rather see a RB get drafted.

by Smitty2K3 on Mar 1, 2010 4:55 PM EST reply actions

just feel like we need a good third guy with weave and lesean

why not just trade a 4th for a guy on the trade market like Michael Bush and take another in the 6th for competition with Eldra.

by NJEagle on Mar 1, 2010 4:58 PM EST reply actions

No way Raiders are trading any of their running back. That is the only position that they have that has good depth.

Meh.

Jones would want a starter job somewhere. He’s not getting it here.

I really can't wait for March 5th.

I’m going to feel like a kid on Christmas when I wake up Friday morning and go online to see if we picked anyone up in the wee hours of the night.

Unfortunately we're probably going to wake up only to find a lump of coal waiting for us

In the form of some dud signing like Kyle Van Den Bosch or Keith Bulluck.

I’m not expecting a shiny new toy like Julius Peppers sitting under the Christmas tree. I learned not to raise my expectations for Christmas morning after years of getting crappy toys instead of what I really wanted :(

i want peppers

but i wont be too upset. Hes going to command a lot of money and he certainly does disappear a lot too. Hes not a trent cole who gives it 100% every snap

you didn’t want asante, TO, jason peters, jon runyan, jevon kearse, etc…? i don’t know where this fallacy comes from that we don’t spend on marquee players. just because we’re not the redskins does not mean we don’t flash the money when someone we really want comes available. (that’s 5 big time players we grabbed in 10 offseasons of this regime off the top of my head, and not including the draft)

Dont use weaver as a RB

Weaver is an effective FB and gains a good amount of short yardage, don’t put him in as a RB. He’s a great blocker and can catch but I wouldn’t take him away from his true calling as a FB. So when you say that we already have McCoy and Weaver; what you should be saying is that you have McCoy, Buckley and Weaver as a FB.

I wouldnt go for Thomas Jones, I would rather find someone in the draft (I wish we picked up Gerheart). Jones is good but then we go back to the same situation we had with BWest. I hated seeing BWest leave but he is on the decline and we will see the same with TJ in a couple of years and we will be in the same boat. Stick with the draft and push banner to pay for some Defense instead of Running backs that we could get in the draft!
