A Former Eagle Helped the Saints Win the Super Bowl
You know it’s the offseason when an article is led with a title like the one shown above. If you read this upon it’s original release time, you should know that the New Orleans Saints captured their first-ever Super Bowl victory moments ago, and put the heralded Indianapolis Colts in a state of shock in the process. A city and franchise that was once the laughing stock of the league just crowned themselves the best club in the NFL this evening, and did it against one of the most respected and successful teams in the Colts.
My respect goes out to the hard-working players, coaches, and supporters of the Saints, because they are simply a great story and will be known as one of the most heart-warming title winners in history. Of course, it would have been so much more pleasing if it was our beloved Eagles that were celebrating right now and the cheers would be roaring in Philadelphia, but obviously we will have to wait at least another year for that to happen.
One interesting storyline that not many are likely to pick up from the Super Bowl tonight is the fact that a former Eagle was involved in a play that had a large impact on the game’s momentum, and arguably the outcome. Okay, maybe that’s taking it too far, but when you’re trying to find connections to a team that was not even in the game, this would definitely fit: Indy’s WR Hank Baskett was the one who touched and fumbled the Saints’ onside kick attempt to open the second half, which led to New Orleans grabbing possession of the ball and gaining a serious jolt of confidence and swagger.
Baskett (pictured), if you remember, was a member of the Eagles since 2006 and up until September 15th of this season as a reserve Wide Receiver and special teams contributor. He was released to make room for Michael Vick on the roster and shortly after signed with the Colts. He was certainly not used in a large role with Indianapolis, but his play in the Super Bowl was a big one. The fumble on the kickoff by Baskett was not all his fault, for he was hit while trying to recover it, and of course, his brief blunder was not the sole cause of the Colts’ upset loss. It was just interesting to know that a former Eagle–in a way–helped the Saints win the Super Bowl.
No, I do not particularly dislike Hank Baskett or either of the teams in the Super Bowl; this article was meant to relate the Eagles to tonight’s season finale, even if it meant exaggerating something that really was just a single play in the game. I hope that everyone enjoyed the 44th edition of the contest, and here’s to seeing our Birds in it next year!

Mr. Inconsistency
Wasn’t a WR I remembered in recent history who could make such an impressive catch and then whiff on the most routine catch.
Baskett
He recovers that kick and the Colts probably DO win the game. That plus Saints’ mistake-free offense is why they are SB champions. Hopefully the Saints will have a letdown next season.
Wasnt really his fault, no one expected it outside from the Saints locker room
eff you we winning anyway

In this series, I remove all the useless fluff from posts by kingmcnabb5, and condense it to 140 characters of meaningful content.
Saints just won the Super Bowl. Colts player Hank Baskett used to be an Eagle. He dropped the kick after halftime that the Saints recovered.

Yep
I couldn’t believe how long this was. I think 140 characters is pushing it, a lot of us noticed that it was Baskett during the game: “Even when the Eagles aren’t in the Super Bowl, they’re still losing the Super Bowl.” How many characters is that?

Still waiting for the Eagles to Bring It Home For Jerome
This reminds me of a past memory of mine....
During one of my JV football games (many years ago), one of my teammates was called for a block in the back on a play we scored a touchdown on. The TD was of course nullified and a play later we punted. We ended up losing the game by 4 points, and naturally because we were dumb kids, we unfairly blamed him for the loss….claiming that if that TD would have stood, we would have won the game. The play happened in the first quarter of the game.
Point is, our team had the entire rest of the game to rectify things and didn’t get it done. Same with Baskett’s play. Being the first play of the 2nd half, the Colts had plenty of time and chances to take control and get it done but couldn’t make the plays when it counted. I will admit that play did give the Saints momentum, but was not nearly the reason they lost the game. Sorry for reminiscing guys, but that one triggered the old memory.

Yeah
A friend of mine blamed Garcon’s drop on third down when it was 10-3, because it gave the Saints momentum.
They were driving for the tying TD with 3:24 left and Manning threw a pick-6. Until then, it was an even game.

I remember when he was traded
And some pilloried the front office, arguing that Manning would make Baskett a star. I think he got less playing time at WR in Indy.
In 11 games this year with the Colts, Baskett had...
4 catches for 28 yards

Yeah
Garcon and Collie and then Anthony Gonzalez coming back next year to join Reggie Wayne … doesn’t look like there’ll be much room for him on the in after piling up those stats.
I’d take Hank back if we cut Curtis and Reggie Brown.

she just realized
that she is hot enough to marry an actual star football player but didn’t. She screwed up on her drafting of the prospective husbands. She’s the equivalant of the Oaklands Raider’s scouting team the last 4 years. Man the things I would do to her.

"You know...I think you got the wrong impression about me. I think in all fairness, I should explain to you exactly what it is that I do. For instance, tomorrow morning I'll get up nice and early, and take a walk down over to the bank, walk in and see ya, and uh. If you don't have my money for me, I'll...crack your fuckin head wide open in front of everybody in the bank. And just about the time that I'm coming out of jail...Hopefully you'll be coming out of your coma, and guess what? I'll split your fuckin head open again! Cause I'm fuckin stupid! I don't give a fuck about jail. That's my business. That's what I do." - Joe Pesci in Casino
Another former Eagle helped us win too
Kyle Eckel- he was a FB on your reserve practice squad. We lost so many FBs to injury, he was a part timer but played most of the games after we signed him mid season. He played in the NFC Championship and SB an although he is not a standout- he did throw some good blocks especially if I recall in Pierre Thomas screen pass for a TD. He’s a native Philadelphian I think.
