Qb's Who May Need A Ring To Complete Their Legacy

And to no surprise look who is number 1 ...

                                          Donovan McNabb

                                                       95674267

No current player may need a Super Bowl ring more to define their legacy than Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb.

The argument can be made McNabb would be a guarantee had he come away with at least one Super Bowl win from the team's five NFC Championship appearances last decade. In his 11 years with the Eagles, he now owns just about every quarterback record for the franchise—including passing yards (32,873) and touchdowns (216).

However, those records may not be enough to get him into Canton as McNabb has been criticized for his inability to win the big games. If he brings Philadelphia their first Super Bowl in franchise history, his legacy as an Eagle would be more meaningful not only to him, but his fans.

A good

but not great QB who is not a Hall of Fame candidiate in my view.

Unless Eli wins another two SB he is not Hall of Fame either.

So...

U post this saying QB’s who need a ring… And u put mcnabb as the only one…? Why don’t u just change the title to mcnabb will need a superbowl to get into canton…?

McNabb would make the hall of fame if he won a super bowl

but if he doesn’ t there’s really no chance, and he shouldn’t. being a champion makes a huge difference.

i wouldnt go as far as to say “no chance.” i think that winning one would guarantee a spot in Canton, but not winning one wouldnt guarantee that he doesnt.

True

But it was not the defence that drove 80 yards at the end of the game to score a TD when only a TD would do.

What did McNabb do when he was in the same position in the SB against the Pats?

Owens fucked up his situation. I stand firmly by my belief that if he would of kept his mouth shut against McNabb’s problems in the Superbowl (I mean seriously, you’re going to blow up your teammates spot and completely destroy the trust needed to be an efficient coheseive team) and would have went to mangament about his contract, showing them all the positives he brought to the team that year, Owens could have and would have had his contract renegotiated to something rewarding him for his extraordinary abilities. But no, that little bitch did blow up his teammates and his whole organization, took his desire to get a new contract to the media and public, and then started to do anything he could to be a distraction to our team. Fuck him! Owens fucked Owens. nobody else.

what kind of stupid kid are you?

Owens was the team? Lets see, we made it to the superbowl without him playing in a single playoff game. We made it to how many nfc championship games without his punk ass? Underpaid? He was signed for 49 million dollars! And your juvenile attitude is what is wrong with sports today. There is never one man that is above the rest of his team. Team is what is needed. Owens was the team? How many key tackles did he have? How many picks? How many sacks? How many points did he take away from the opposing team? A complete team is what will bring this city a championship. Not one egotistcal, albeit talented Diva ass WR. Owens was worth a top 5 WR slary, no doubt. But his skill set was not worth a complete chemistry tear down of the Philadelphia Eagles. You don’t like the mangements decision? You don’t like the way the Eagles did things? Then go to a souless team like the cowwhores and root for them. Eagles all day, everyday.

That's a stretch man

Burress is 6’6" and runs a 4.3. He made the Giants’ running attack (which never faced eight man fronts thanks to him) unstoppable.

Once again, the error in your analysis is attributing victory to one player instead of a team. The Eagles also faced a better Pats defense

How did Eli do head to head with the Eagles this year? Which is the better indicator of Eli’s talent, 40-17 or 45-38?

by EANX33 on Feb 6, 2010 11:04 AM EST up reply actions

We cannot mix

team and individual as part of the same arguement.

It is a team game – but at certain points it does come down to an individual.

The two Eagles game the Giants were overmatched and Eli could not do anything about it. On that basis the Cowboys beat you three times this year so McNabb has a worse case as at least the Giants scored 38 points to your zero points in the second game.

The Fins never put Marino in a position to win as a team. Norwood makes the FG and Kelly has a SB ring.

All I am saying is that Eli (as has Big Ben) driven his team to the winning score late in the SB – as has Montana and Brady. To this point McNabb has failed to rise to the occasion when his team needed him to do so.

He does therefore need a SB win to be considered a HofF player.

by G Fan in England on Feb 6, 2010 5:44 PM EST up reply actions

I brought up the Eagles-Giants games this season to point out the inconsistency of your argument that it’s a team game when the Eagles beat the Giants, but McNabb’s fault individually if the Eagles lose.

When Eli and the Giants went to the SB he was just an average QB who got lucky at the right time. He’s not worthy of HOF consideration. He wouldn’t even be in the conversation if the Giants defense didn’t carry him that one postseason.

If my mother put on a helmet and shoulder pads and a uniform that wasn't the same as the one I was wearing, I'd run over her if she was in my way. And I love my mother. - Bo Jackson

by EANX33 on Feb 6, 2010 6:00 PM EST up reply actions

I agree

but if the Giants win another two SB with him as QB he will be considered for the Hall of Fame.

Rightly or wrongly the QB gets the credit for SB wins when the Hall of Fame comes round – Big Ben will likely get in because he has two rings and even though he did not do anything to win the first he did lead the drive for the second ring – that is what you want the QB to do and that is what counts in the eyes of the voters.

by G Fan in England on Feb 6, 2010 6:19 PM EST up reply actions

McNabb was never in the same position
What did McNabb do when he was in the same position in the SB against the Pats?

He took over down 24-14 with 5:40 left and led the Eagles to a TD. They didn’t get the onside kick, and then had to go 96 yards in 46 seconds, which is highly unlikely.

Eli took over down 14-10 with 2:42 left and drove them to the winning score, with the aid of a highly unlikely completion.

I don’t want to come off like I’m defending McNabb’s play in that game, but it’s not really a fair comparison.

It is hard to believe

there are 10 QBs who are 1 SB win away from the HOF.

Some might be on that trajectory, but would still need several more years of excellence to get in the conversation.

McNabb is in the conversation … and an SB would make him verrrry favorable to get in.

Would be cool if it was the same year as Dawk so we could go take over Canton.

I disagree

to win playoff games you normally need solid QB play.

However, there comes a time when the QB has to perform at a level above solid for his team to win.

Last night is a prime example – Brees was 29 of 32 after the first quarter whilst Manning failed with his Int and 4th down inc in the 4th qtr – but looking at Manning stats line they were good – but not great.

Manning will still get in because of his stats but his playoff woes will always be a knock against him.

However, Brees has suddenly move into the realms of Hof F if he can win another SB combined with hs stats.

McNabb will need two SB rings to get in.

Uh

That was an awful article. While I do think Donovan need’s a ring just to finally get all of those who give him unnecessary hate off of his back, some of those names are just awful. Brees I could see considering how successful he has been in New Orleans. Romo probably has to at least make it, just because of the fact that he is the QB of the Dallas Cowboys. And if Brees gets a ring, then Rivers definitely needs it just because of the way that went down. Palmer is one of the most overrated QBs in the league and has been for the last few seasons. Rodgers may have to get there because he follows Favre. Cutler doesn’t even have a legacy yet, and considering that no one really expects him to do that after the year he had last year, he doesn’t face this sort of pressure. And Schaub needs to have another good year or two before he justifies that he is the long term answer at QB for the Texans. Hasselbeck is in the same boat as McNabb and does need it though, just because he never really did anything to stand out.

I'll live and die with number 9....

You my friend are a dumbass...

I thought that this article was fairly informative and I for one liked it… Secondly I dont think McNabb has to have a ring to make it, but getting one would solidify him as a future HOF almost immediately. Brees needs a ring to get it(which he got tonight). Rodgers, and Cutler are infants when it comes to starting in the NFL, they need 3-5 more years to even begin talking about there chances.. Palmer is a good QB, he’s one of the only reasons they did so well this year, do you think Fitzpatrick couldve lead them to that record this year? I think Palmer is actually about right, he’s not underrated or overrated.

Romo has no chance at the HOF. He doesnt produce enough. Getting a ring will only make him at Eli status which is good but not HOF material. So your little “romo needs a ring only because he’s a QB for the dallas Cowboys” arguement is just fucking stupid.

Who cares about the Hall of Fame? 20 years from now are we going to be celebrating McNabb because he’s a hall-of-famer? How about 50 years from now?

The hall doesn’t mean shit. All of them get forgotten anyway. What gets remembered is Super Bowl victories.

Can McNabb get into the hall without a super bowl? Maybe. BUt what’s important? The damn championship

The thing is when it comes to QBs without rings McNabb doesn’t have the stats to match and when it comes to QBs with rings he’s right in the running. So a ring would put him in or several more seasons to accrue the needed stats.

I’ll give two examples … Aikman is in he has 3 Superbowl rings but his stats … meh … Terry Bradshaw … 4 Superbowl rings .. his stats

Aikman 61.5 pct 32,942 yards 165 TDs 141 INTs
Bradshaw 51.9 pct 27,989 yards 212 TDs 210 INTs
McNabb 59.0 pct 32,873 yards 216 TDs 100 INTs

Qbs without a Super Bowl ring …

Dan Marino 59.4 pct 61,361 yards 420 TDs 252 INTs
Fran Tarkenton 57.0 pct 47,003 yards 342 TDs 266 INTs

The way I see it with a ring McNabb is a shoe in … without the ring he’ll need to put together a few more years with high yards and a low TD to INT ratio to get in. His stats right now are somewhat mediocre compared to the hall.

Finally

Not only reasonable, but based on facts. Props.

If my mother put on a helmet and shoulder pads and a uniform that wasn't the same as the one I was wearing, I'd run over her if she was in my way. And I love my mother. - Bo Jackson

I said I’ll give two examples … yes Jim Kelly is in there and Warren Moon and Moons numbers are much higher than McNabbs and Kelly’s numbers are somewhat low you can’t really argue that he doesn’t deserve to be there.
