new overtime rules....WTF?!!!
Just pulled this from PE.com ....I really wish the comishh would stop screwing with things and just let the boyz play ball!
On a non-Eagles front, there could be a change coming to the overtime rules next season. Per NFL.com, the league's Competition Committee will propose that both teams will get the ball at least once in overtime unless the first team gets the ball scores a touchdown. If the team that gets the ball first only scores a field goal, the other team will get the ball. If the second team to get the ball scores a touchdown, it wins. If the second team gets a field goal, then it becomes sudden death with the next score determining the winner. The proposed rule change would only be in effect for playoff games

Here Here!!
let teams both keep trading offensive possessions until the defense STOPS it!!!
"... You play to win the game. Hello? You play to win the game. You don't play it to just play it. That's the great thing about sports: you play to win..."
yeah I voted No
because only playoffs is stupid, then the if you kick a 3 other team gets ball, but if you score a TD it is over, etc. etc. Our OT should be based on College rules but with the whole field to drive (kickoffs like normal) But both sides should get opportunity until defense makes a stop and they should only be allowed to go for TD’s or punt. That would be good playoff. But as the proposed rule change stands…no

Yes
I feel like half the time the OT is decided on a coin flip. I’m all for it, it can’t get much worse

Give each team a drive, and the only way it ends after the first score is if the first team scores 8. So that way team 1 has the chance of taking a kick and ending with 7 and the risk that team 2 could score 8 and win, or going for the immediate win with the risk of failing and scoring only 6, which means that a TD+kick by team 2 could beat them. Make it a rule that if you are team 2 and team 1 scored 7 on you, and then you score a TD, you have to go for 8.
If the teams are still tied (a FG each or a TD missing the extra point), it’s sudden death.
eh ....good idea
but a lil too complicated for gameplay

they should just make it a texas showdown like college
in my opinion that’s the only fair way to determine a winner, the current OT rules in the NFL make it so that whoever wins the coin toss has a bigger chance to win OT, since when to professional sports come down to coin toss’s?
I can’t think of anything better than College Football’s overtime rules. The proposed rules change is horrible.

I don't mind
A change in the overtime rules. They were BS in the first place. The things that got me pissed are the possible ban on the 3 point stance. That is just straight up trash.
in retrospect
I can see that some new OT rules arent such a bad thing. However i agree that the whole dilema over the 3 point stance is ridiculous , its a staple of classic football . I just get fired up cuz every year now theres new rules and regs and its gotten to the point where im just screaming at Mr. Goodell in my head " COULD YOU PLEASE STOP TRYING TO REINVENT THE WHELL AND JUST LET FOOTBALL BE FOOTBALL…..FOR CHRIST SAKE!" sorrry for the rant :-)

Thank god, they just need to nut up and go to the college style OT
thats Cobb on Kolb crime if you ask me... as said by yophillybro
"I'm trading Kolb to Buffalo for Cribbs"- the brilliant Trade Kolb
i think
it should just a 5 minute quarters in OT and when the time runs out whoever has the higher score wins
this is awesome, you'll hear no complaints from me
now all we need to do is get a college football playoff and all will be good and fair in the world of football.
Not the most ideal overtime rule...
but much better than how it is now.
Bye 36, you will be missed...
Its about fucking time
Ya i know if you lose the toss, you still play D and have a shot at scoring. BULLSHIT!!!! Look at the stats, the team that wins the toss wins over 60%!!!
In playoffs? NFL Live on ESPN just said in Playoff OT, teams that win coin toss is 13-14. I think that’s even.

The universal OT rule for NFL should be ...
first to 5 wins, that’s it, that is simple.
My "t" and "y" buttons are messed up so don't bitch at me about misspelling, I'm just saying.

I'd say first to 4
Since it’d allow for 2 safeties, which should probably win it. :)
This is dumb.
First team to go still has an advantage. If they score the other team doesn’t even have a chance.
Just have a shootout for crying out loud.

This is a small step in the right direction.

He just learned the last rules…
(I still like Donovan. Just had to throw that out there.)
This dumb for a few reasons but especially because it’s only in effect in postseason. Are regular season games not important enough to be decided in a similar fashion? I guarantee if they change to this rule and one team misses the playoffs by one game that lost because of this change, people will be up in arms.
